Uttar Pradesh government launches ‘Mukhyamantri Samoohik Vivaah Yojana’:

Uttar Pradesh State Government launched a mass marriage scheme called ‘Mukhyamantri Samoohik Vivaah Yojana’.Under the scheme, Uttar Pradesh social welfare department will conduct mass marriages.

Global Entrepreneurship summit 2017 to be held in Hyderabad:

The 2017 Global Entrepreneurship Summit will be held at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre from November 28 to 30. The Summit will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Advisor to the US President, Ivanka Trump, who leads the US delegation.

This year’s theme is “Women First, Prosperity for All” to celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit in all its strengths and diversity.

No service charge on train e-ticket till March 2018: Railways

Rail passengers will continue to enjoy service charge exemption on tickets booked online till March 2018. The government had waived service charges after demonetisation in November last year to encourage digital modes of booking. The facility had been extended to June 30 and then September 30. Service charges on booking train tickets online through IRCTC ranges from Rs 20 to 40 per ticket.


India to be guest country at the World Government Summit:

India will be the guest of honour during the sixth edition of the World Government Summit scheduled from February 11th – 13th, 2018 in Dubai. The summit is the largest movement to review and share the best experiences, and the first global forum for governments, countries, organizations and private sector leaders interested in the industry of the future.


Massive search operation ‘CASO’ launched in Jammu & Kashmir:

Government forces launched a major Cordon-and-Search-Operation (CASO) in Hajin town of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

Bangladesh signs $4.5 bn loan deal with India:

Bangladesh signed USD 4.5 billion third line of credit (LoC) agreement with India for its infrastructure and social sector development.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and his Bangladeshi counterpart A M A Muhith.Economic Relations Division Secretary Kazi Shofiqul Azam signed the deal on behalf of Bangladesh, while Managing Director of the Export-Import Bank of India (Exim) David Rasquinha signed for India.

The new Indian line of credit, worth a staggering USD 4.5 billion, will be used to fund 17 major projects in Bangladesh, which include electricity, railroads, roads, shipping and ports.

8th SAARC Speaker, Parliamentarians conference held in Sri Lanka:

Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed has left for Sri Lanka to take part in the 8th Conference of the Association of SAARC Speakers and Parliamentarians.

Speakers and Parliamentarians of the SAARC countries are taking part in the conference held from 2-7 October.The President of Sri Lanka, Maithripala Sirisena and the Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe, met with the Speakers of the Parliaments of the SAARC countries.

RBI keeps repo rate unchanged at 6%; slashes FY18 growth forecast to 6.7%:

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) kept the repo rate unchanged at 6 per cent, maintaining the status quo in its 4th bi-monthly monetary policy statement.

The central bank also revised real GVA growth projection for 2017-18 down to 6.7 per cent from the August 2017 projection of 7.3 per cent.

 GIFT City ‘s IFSC bags 10th place in Global Financial Centres Index:

Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City)’s International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) has bagged the 10th spot in the latest edition of Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI), London, September 2017.

GIFT IFSC is ranked tenth, ahead of Luxembourg, Seoul, Abu Dhabi, Toronto and Beijing in the list of the GFCI report, which has 15 centres that are likely to become more significant in the next few years.

The report states that while well-established centres such as New York, London, Singapore, Hong Kong and Tokyo have maintained their lead, emerging centres such as GIFT IFSC have made tremendous progress. The report presents the parameter for measuring the attractiveness of financial centres.

Reserve Bank of India opens branch in Dehradun:

The Reserve Bank of India opened a branch in the Dehradun to make transactions of the state government more convenient.

Inaugurating the RBI’s branch here, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said it was an important step which will speed up economic development of the state besides making financial transactions of the government more convenient.

 MobiKwik, IRCTC Rail connect partner for ticket bookings:

Digital payments firm MobiKwik announced its partnership with IRCTC Rail connect app, which will allow customers book railway tickets using the former’s payment gateway.

Rajnish Kumar is SBI chief:

State Bank of India managing director Rajnish Kumar will succeed Arundhati Bhattacharya as chairman of the country’s largest bank.

Kumar joined SBI as a probationary officer in 1980 and has worked in various departments. Before becoming MD, national banking group, in 2015, he headed the merchant banking arm, SBI Capital Markets, as managing director and CEO.

 Param shah is new director for FICCI:

The apex industry body, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) announced appointment of Param Shah as the new Director for the United Kingdom (UK) operations. Shah will succeed Pratik Dattani whose tenure with FICCI ended recently.

Nobel Prize in Chemistry Awarded for 3D Views of Life’s Biological Machinery:

Three European-born scientists were awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for developing cryo-electron microscopy for the high-resolution structure determination of biomolecules in solution

The winners are Jacques Dubochet, a retired biophysicist at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland; Joachim Frank, a professor at Columbia University in New York; and Richard Henderson, a scientist at the British Medical Research Council’s Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, England.


Manipal Institute Bags Most Clean Campus award:

Manipal University’s Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) bagged the third place for the ‘most clean campus’ in India and the first for ‘most clean campus’ in south western region.

Mahaveer becomes first Indian to claim European racing title:

Mahaveer Raghunathan became the first Indian to win a European racing championship when he sped to victory in the last two races of the prestigious Boss GP Championship (Formula Class).


International Weightlifting Federation suspends nine countries for doping violations:

Nine countries have been suspended from weightlifting for a year by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF).

The decision by the IWF followed the retesting of anti-doping samples from the 2008 and 2012 Olympics. Countries with at least three doping offenses from those Olympics were suspended.

The member federations identified as such are currently Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, China, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine.
