Ajanta Neog becomes the first woman Finance Minister of Assam

  • Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma allocated the finance portfolio to Ajanta Neog, making her the first woman Finance Minister of Assam.
  • She was elected to the state Assembly from the Golaghat assembly constituency in eastern Assam and also hold the social welfare portfolio.

  • Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Bhupesh Baghel inaugurated the ‘CGTeeka’ web portal (http://cgteeka.cgstate.gov.in/user-registration) to make the process of registration for COVID-19 vaccination convenient. The portal has been developed by the Chhattisgarh Infotech Promotion Society (CHIPS).

Uttarakhand Police launches ‘Mission Hausla’ to help covid patients

  • The Uttarakhand Police has launched a drive called “Mission Hausla” to help people get oxygen, beds, ventilators and plasma for COVID-19 patients.
  • The Uttarakhand Police will also help the public get medicines meant for COVID-19 management as part of the mission and rations.

China becomes the world’s first country to ban synthetic cannabinoids

  • China will become the world’s first country to ban all synthetic cannabinoid substances. The ban is likely to come into effect on 1 July 2021. The move comes as China tries to curb the manufacturing and trafficking of the drug.
  • Synthetic cannabinoids are highly camouflaged, as some are found in e-cigarette oil and some are found in cut tobacco made from leaves, flower petals, etc.,

India received $83 billion in remittances in 2020: World Bank report

  • According to a World Bank report, India received over $ 83 billion in remittances in 2020, a drop of just 0.2 per cent from the previous year.
  • India is followed by China ($ 59.5) Mexico ($ 42.8 billion), the Philippines ($ 34.9 billion), Egypt ($ 29.6 billion), Pakistan ($ 26 billion), France ($ 24.4 billion) and Bangladesh ($ 21 billion).

RBI cancels licence of West Bengal’s United Co-operative Bank over inadequate capital and regulatory non-compliance

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has cancelled the licence of the United Co-operative Bank Limited, Bagnan in West Bengal as the bank does not have adequate capital and earning prospects.
  • All the depositors will receive the full amount of their deposits from the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC).

Central government to issue Sovereign Gold Bonds in six tranches

  • The Central government in consultation with the Reserve Bank of India has issued Sovereign Gold Bonds in six tranches between May and September 2021.
  • The bond will be on sale through commercial banks, Stock Holding Corporation of India Limited (SHCIL), designated post offices, National Stock Exchange (NSE), and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

Sovereign Gold Bond 2021-22:

  • Sovereign Gold bond scheme was launched in November 2015. The bond will be restricted for sale to resident individuals, HUFs, Trusts, Universities, and Charitable Institutions.
  • The tenor of the bond will be for eight years with an exit option after the fifth year to be exercised on the next interest payment dates.
  • The minimum permissible investment will be 1 gram of gold. The maximum limit of subscription shall be 4 Kg for individuals, 4 Kg for HUF, and 20 Kg for trusts and similar entities per fiscal (April-March).

  • A former ambassador, Elisabetta Belloni was named as the first woman to lead Italy’s secret services. Prime Minister Mario Draghi announced Elisabetta Belloni as head of the Department of Information Security (DIS). She has already been the first woman to hold key foreign ministry, Italy’s highest diplomatic post.
