Narendra Singh Tomar releases the new framework for implementation of the SVAMITVA Scheme

  • Union Minister for Panchayati Raj Narendra Singh Tomar released the new framework for implementation of the SVAMITVA Scheme and Coffee Table Book (CTB) to mark the nationwide roll-out of the SVAMITVA Scheme.
  • The SVAMITVA Framework developed by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj provides a detailed roadmap and guidelines for the various States in terms of the Scheme.
  • Coffee Table Book on SVAMITVA Scheme is an effort to condense the vast efforts of various stakeholders involved in the implementation of the Scheme.
  • The Minister stated that property cards have been distributed in more than 7400 villages and more than 7,00,000 beneficiaries have been benefited from the Scheme across the country.

Cabinet gives ex-post facto approval to MoU between India and UK on Global Innovation Partnership

  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi gives ex-post facto approval to the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of Republic of India and Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) of the United Kingdom on Global Innovation Partnership (GIP).
  • GIP will also develop an open and inclusive e-marketplace (E-BAAZAR) for cross-border innovation transfer and will focus on results-based impact assessment thereby promoting transparency and accountability.

Goldman Sachs lowers India’s growth forecast to 11. 1% from 11.7% for FY22

  • Goldman Sachs lowered its estimate for India’s economic growth to 11.1 per cent from 11.7 per cent in FY22 (2021-2022). Goldman Sachs has also revised the 2021 Calendar Year growth forecast to 9.7 percent, from the previous estimate of 10.5 percent.

RBI announces ₹50,000 crore priority lending by banks for COVID-related healthcare infrastructure

  • Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das announced ₹50,000 crore priority lending by banks for hospitals, oxygen suppliers, vaccine importers, COVID drugs, and other COVID-related health infrastructure till 31 March 2022.
  • In an unscheduled address, the Governor stated that the situation in the country has reversed from being on the foothills of strong economic recovery to facing a fresh crisis.

Biodegradable yoga mat developed by 6 young girls from Assam

  • A biodegradable and compostable yoga mat called ‘Moorhen Yoga mat’ developed from water hyacinth by six young girls from the fishing community in Assam could turn this water plant from a nuisance to wealth.
  • The girls belong to the fishing community living in the fringe of the Deepor Beel, a permanent freshwater lake in the southwest of Guwahati city, recognised as a Ramsar Site and a bird wildlife sanctuary.

The prize was named after the Colombian journalist Guillermo Cano Isaza.

‘Shooter Dadi’ Chandro Tomar passed away at 89

  • Shooter Chandro Tomar, nicknamed ‘Shooter Dadi’ passed away at the age of 89 due to Covid-19. She won many awards in the senior citizen category including Stri Shakti Sanman presented by the President of India.
  • She was already above 65 when she picked up the gun for the first time but has won around 30 national competitions.

Chennai social activist Traffic Ramaswamy passed away at 87

  • Prolific social activist and crusader KR Ramaswamy, popularly known as Traffic Ramaswamy passed away in Chennai. He was also known for filing Public Interest Litigations (PILs) in the Madras High Court against footpath encroachments, road widening and encroachments and traffic violations.

Padma Shri awardee and former scientist Manas Bihari Verma passed away at 78

  • The Indian aeronautical scientist Manas Bihari Verma passed away at the age of 78. He played instrumental role in the development of the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) – Tejas.
  • He worked as a scientist at the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) for 35 years in the aeronautical stream. He won the Padma Shri award in 2018.
