Joint Military Exercise SURYA KIRAN-13 Begins in Uttarakhand
The 13th edition of the Nepal-India joint military exercise will be held in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand.
It will include training on jungle warfare, anti-terrorism combat as well as disaster response activities.
Nepal’s newly-appointed Defence Minister Ishwor Pokharel signed an agreement to launch Surya Kiran Nepal – India Military Joint Exercise.
In 2017, the 12th edition of Surya Kiran Military exercise was held in Kathmandu.
Andhra Pradesh declared official symbols for the state
The Andhra Pradesh government has declared new state symbols to replace the ones held by Telangana after it was created.
The symbols were notified by the state government’s Department of Environment, Forest, Science and Technology.

PM Modi Launches International Rupay Card, Bhim App and UPI in Singapore
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched three Indian mobile payment apps in Singapore at a business event. The event is aimed at internationalisation of the country’s digital payment platforms.
PM Modi launched three digital payment schemes, including the international debut of Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM) and RuPay in Singapore as well as the State Bank of India’s online international Rupee remittance app.
The launch marks the collaboration of National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and Network for Electronic Transfers (NETS) of Singapore in launching a cross-border digital payment system between the two nations. Indians would be able to use their RuPay cards to make payments using NETS terminals in Singapore.

Infosys Acquires US-based WongDoody for $75 million
India’s second largest IT services firm Infosys has completed the acquisition of US-based WONGDOODY.
Infosys will acquire WongDoody Holding Company, a US-based digital creative and consumer insights agency, for a total consideration of up to $75 million.
WONGDOODY is headquartered in Seattle and founded in 1993. Through this acquisition, Infosys enhances its digital experience services ecosystem with services ranging from strategy, design and user experience, to creative and digital marketing across the customer experience value chain.
Indian Oil Most Profitable PSU For 2nd Straight Year
Fuel retailer IOC became India’s most profitable state-owned company for the second consecutive year.
Indian Oil Corporation, which has for decades been India’s biggest company by turnover, posted a record net profit of Rs 21,346 crore in the fiscal year ended March 31, 2018 (FY 2017-18), up 12 per cent from Rs 19,106 crore in the last fiscal.
Billionaire Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries retained the crown of being India’s most profitable company for the third year in a row, posting highest ever net profit of Rs 36,075 crore.
Tata Consultancy Services with a net profit of Rs 25,880 crore was the second most profitable company in the country.
India and World Bank Signs $500 Million Additional Financing for PMGSY
India has signed a USD 500 million (Rs 3,371 crore) loan pact with World Bank to provide additional financing for Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) rural road projects. The loan has a 3-year grace period, and a maturity of 10 years.
Under the project, 7,000 km of climate resilient roads will be built, out of which 3,500 km will be constructed using green technologies. The World Bank has supported PMGSY since its inception in 2004. So far it has invested over USD 1.8 billion in loans.
The loan agreement for the project was signed by Sameer Kumar Khare, joint secretary, Ministry of Finance and Junaid Ahmad, country director, World Bank India.
India Releases Rs 33.10 Cr to Nepal for 2 Road Projects
The Indian government has handed over a cheque amounting Rs 33 crore to the Nepal Government for construction of a Postal Highway.
The amount was handed over to Secretary of Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Madhusudan Adhikari at Singha Durbar by Indian Mission to Nepal’s Deputy Chief of Mission Dr Ajay Kumar.
The amount has been released towards 25% of the tendered cost (including 10% mobilization advance) of the two road packages of Birgunj-Thori Road being implemented under Postal Highway Project in Nepal with Government of India’s grant assistance.
With this payment, the Government of India has released a total of Rs 117.63 Crores to the Government of Nepal for implementing 14 packages of the Postal Highway Projects.
Facebook ties-up with NWC to launch digital literacy programme
Facebook has entered into a partnership with National Commission for Women (NCW) to launch a digital literacy programme aimed at training 60,000 women in universities across India on safe use of the Internet, social media and email in a year.
It has been launched in collaboration with Cyber Peace Foundation, the pilot programme will enable trainees to differentiate between credible and questionable information.
The digital literacy programme will benefit women in universities across major cities in Haryana, Delhi-NCR, Manipur, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu.

Aditiya Puri in Barron’s list of top 30 CEO
HDFC Bank’s managing director Aditya Puri has figured in the top 30 global CEOs list published by the American financial magazine Barron’s.
The international publication has included Puri in this prestigious list for the fourth consecutive year.
In its 14th edition, the list of the world’s best CEOs also includes Jeff Bezos of Amazon; Warren Buffett of Berkshire Hathaway; Jamie Dimon of JPMorgan Chase.
The magazine divided the CEOs into three categories: visionary founders, growth leaders, and turnaround experts. Puri got a place in the growth leaders category.

Ranbir Singh: New Commander-in-Chief of Northern Command Army
Lt Gen Ranbir Singh, who was the Director-General of Military Operations (DGMO) when India carried out surgical strikes across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, has been appointed Northern Army.
Lt Gen Singh succeeds Lt Gen Anbu who will take charge as Vice Chief of the Indian Army commander.
At present, Lt Gen Singh is Deputy Chief of the Army Staff.

Yuvraj Singh Awarded ‘Most Inspiring Icon Of The Year For Social Welfare’
The Indian star cricketer has been honored with the ‘Most Inspiring Icon Of The Year For Social Welfare’ award.
The award was given by the Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival (DPIFF).
The committee was impressed by his contribution in the field of social welfare through his foundation ‘YouWeCan’. He founded ‘YouWeCan’ in 2012.
CWG gold medallist weightlifter Sanjita Chanu fails dope test
The two-time Commonwealth Games champion Sanjita Chanu tested positive for a banned anabolic steroid and was provisionally suspended by the international federation.
She won a gold in the women’s 53kg category in the recent Gold Coast CWG 2018.
IWLF Secretary General Sahdev Yadav confirmed that Sanjita’s ‘A’ sample has returned positive. If Sanjita’s ‘B’ sample also tests positive, she is expected to be handed a maximum of four-year ban from the sport.
