Tourism Ministry sanctions Rs. 80.37 crore for developing

The Ministry of Tourism has sanctioned Malanad Malabar Cruise Tourism Project under Swadesh Darshan Scheme for development of a rural circuit in Kerala.

The Union Tourism Minister K.J. Alphons has announced that under this project, the ministry will be developing three cruises with a budget of Rs 80.37 crores.

The project will be focusing on the development of water-based thematic cruise experiences in and around Valapattanam and Kuppam Rivers of Kannur District.

The total length of the navigation route in Kerala is 1900 km. Kerala has 44 Rivers and 7 Backwater regions.

PM Narendra Modi to inaugurate India’s first ever Global Mobility Summit

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates the first Global Mobility Summit called MOVE, which will deliberate on steps to promote electric vehicles and shared mobility.

The summit will deliberate on five themes including comprehensive: electrification and alternative fuels, reinventing public transport, goods transport and logistics and data analytics and mobility.

The two-day summit is being organised by the government think-tank Niti Aayog.

BNS Somudra Joy arrived Visakhapatnam on a goodwill visit

The Bangladesh Naval Ship Somudra Joy arrived Visakhapatnam on a four day visit to the Eastern Naval Command.

BNS Somudra Joy is a Hamilton Class frigate and it is one of the largest ships of the Bangladesh Navy. The ship earlier visited Visakhapatnam in Feb 2016 and participated in the International Fleet Review hosted by Indian Navy.

France to provide life support and medicine for ‘Gaganyaan’ crew

The national human space mission ‘Gaganyaan’ will get French support in the form of life support and medicine for the Indian crew.

The French space agency CNES head Jean-Yves LeGall has announced that an enabling agreement would be signed with his ISRO counterpart K. Sivan.

It was announced at the bi-annual Bengaluru Space Expo BSX 2018. The 3-day BSX is hosted by ISRO, Antrix and CII.

Facebook plans its first Asia data centre in Singapore

The Facebook will invest more than $1 billion to build its first data centre in Asia in Singapore and it is planned to open in 2022. Facebook’s facility will be located in the west of the island.

Facebook has a number of data centres in the United States as well as Ireland and Sweden, and it is building a facility in Denmark.

The Singapore site would be its first to feature the StatePoint Liquid Cooling system, which was co-developed by Facebook and Nortek Air Solutions, and plans to minimise water and energy consumption.

Japan to conduct world’s first test of space elevator

A Japanese team working to develop a “space elevator” will conduct a first trial this month, blasting off a miniature version of the apparatus and monitoring equipment on satellites to test the technology.

The test equipment, produced by researchers at Shizuoka University, will hitch a ride on an H-2B rocket’s Vehicle Number 7 being launched by Japan’s space agency from southern island of Tanegashima next week.

The movement of the motorized “elevator” box will be monitored with cameras in the satellites.

2nd World Hindu Congress to be held at Chicago

The World Hindu Congress is set to hold its second conference in Chicago, U.S. It is to to commemorate the 125th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s historic speech at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in 1893.

The Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu will address the World Hindu Congress. He will also participate in a programme organised by 14 Telugu associations of the US at Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago.

The economic conference will bring C-Suite business leaders, economists, successful entrepreneurs and innovators together to inspire and encourage greater wealth creation and wealth surplus. The Dalai Lama will give a message in the inaugural session.

India-Sri Lanka Joint Exercise SLINEX-2018 begins in Sri Lanka

India and Sri Lanka began their bilateral naval exercise in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka.

The 2018 Sri Lanka-India Exercise (SLINEX) is the 4th edition.

SLINEX series of bilateral maritime exercises were initiated in 2005 and since then three successful engagements have been conducted.

Indian Naval ships Kora, Kirpan (both missile corvettes) and Savitri (offshore patrol vessel) along with ship-borne integral helicopters will participate in the exercise. The Lankan Navy will be represented by Sayura, Samudra, Sagara, six Fast Attack Crafts, two Fast Gun Boats and one Fast Missile Vessel.

Social Justice and Empowerment Minister attends 3rd ASEM Conference in Seoul

The Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot attends the 3rd ASEM (Asia-Europe Meeting) Conference.

He is heading a 3-member Indian Delegation to attend the 3rd ASEM (Asia-Europe Meeting) Conference on ‘Global Ageing and Human Rights of Older Persons’ jointly organised in Seoul by the Republic of Korea and the National Human Rights Commission of Korea.

Google announces new AI Technology to fight online child sexual abuse

The US tech giant Google has announced that it is employing a new artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to combat online spreading of contents involving child sexual abuse.

The AI technology uses deep neural networks for image processing to help discover and detect child sexual abuse material (CSAM) online.

The new tool based on the deep neural networks will be made available for free to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other “industry partners.

Google has been cooperating with some of its partners in combating online child sexual abuse, including the Britain-based charity the Internet Watch Foundation, the Technology Coalition and the WePROTECT Global Alliance.

Book on “Experiential Learning – Gandhiji’s Nai Talim” launched

The Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar has launched a book titled ‘Experiential Learning — Gandhiji’s Nai Talim’ to mark the Teachers Day.

He also released a curriculum on experiential learning in 13 languages.The curriculum was brought out in 13 languages.

‘Nai Talim’ or basic education is a principle promoted by Mahatma Gandhi which states that knowledge and work are not separate.

Under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, the book and the project were a joint effort of the universities in the state, state SCERT and Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education (MGNCRE).

The Actor Akshay Kumar has been selected as an honorary ambassador for Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial Foundation.

The Bharat Ratna late Sh. Lal Bahadur Shastri is the second Prime Minister of India.

SBI Mutual Fund appoints Ashwani Bhatia as CEO

The SBI Mutual Fund has appointed Ashwani Bhatia as its managing director and chief executive officer.

Bhatia takes over from Anuradha Rao, who now returns to State Bank of India (SBI) as deputy managing director.

He has also been associated with SBI Capital Markets, as president and chief operating officer and whole time director. SBI Mutual Fund, which is among the top five fund houses in the country, has an assets base of Rs 2,33,11 crore as on June 30.

India ranked 19 in ‘Theft Ranking’ of nuclear weapons in Nuclear Security Index

According to the Nuclear Security Index, India has improved its ranking by one spot from 2016 and now stands 19th in the ‘Theft Ranking’ for countries with weapons usable nuclear materials.

The index was released by the US-based Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI), which is co-chaired by Sam Nunn and Ernest Moni.

Pakistan ranks 20th in the Theft Ranking for countries with weapons usable nuclear materials.

Australia(1), which was at the top in 2012, 2014, and 2016 among the 22 countries with weapons-usable nuclear materials, this time shares the top spot with Switzerland(1).

Saurabh Chaudhary clinches gold in ISSF World C’ship     

The 2018 Asian Games champion Saurabh Chaudhary clinched a gold medal in the 10m Air Pistol Junior event at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Shooting World Championship in Changwon, South Korea.

In the team event, Indian squad comprising Saurabh Chaudhary, Arjun Singh Cheema and Anmol won a silver medal with a score tally of 1,730 points.

With 8 gold medals, 1 silver and 5 bronze, India continued to top the medal standings.
