Telangana develops India’s first smartphone-based e- voting solution

• India’s first smartphone-based e- voting solution was developed by the Telangana Government to help helps voters, including senior citizens, persons with disabilities, those employed in notified essential services, polling personnel and patients who can’t vote physically.
• This initiative was driven by the Telangana State Election Commission (TSEC) with the implementation support of the Emerging Technologies Wing of the Telangana’s IT Department and the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC).

IFSCA and GIFT City launch a global fintech hackathon series ‘Sprint01: BankTech’

• The International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) and GIFT City launched I-Sprint’21, the global fintech hackathon series ‘Sprint01: BankTech’ focussed on FINTECHS for the banking sector.
• BankTech is hosted by IFSCA and GIFT City in partnership with NITI Aayog. The hackathon’s partners include ICICI Bank, HSBC Bank, iCreate, Zone Startups and Invest-India.
• This hackathon aims to connect IFSCA and GIFT IFSC with the fintech ecosystem, solve business problems for GIFT IFSC banking units and promote retail business for GIFT IFSC banking units.

Satish Chandra Sharma was sworn in as the new Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court

• Justice Satish Chandra Sharma has been sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court.
• He is currently serving as Acting Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court.
• He was appointed as the Senior Advocate by the Madhya Pradesh High Court in 2003 and got elevated as a Judge of the High Court in 2009.

• Rajnish Kumar retired as the Chairman of SBI in October 2020 after serving for four decades in the State Bank of India (SBI).

Obituary

Father of Pakistan’s nuclear programme Abdul Qadeer Khan passed away

• The father of Pakistan’s clandestine nuclear programme Abdul Qadeer Khan passed away at the age of 85.
• He was known as AQ Khan. He was instrumental in setting up Pakistan’s first nuclear enrichment plant at Kahuta near Islamabad.
• He was arrested in 2004 for illegally sharing nuclear technology with Iran, Libya and North Korea.

Kannada film actor Sathyajith passed away

• Veteran Kannada actor Sathyajith or Syed Nizamuddin passed away at the age of 72.
• He was known for his role in movies like Putnanja, Shiva Mecchida Kannappa, Chaitrada Premanjali and Apthamitra.
• He had acted in more than 600 movies.
