Union Minister of IT Ashwini Vaishnaw kicks off NITI Aayog’s ‘Fintech Open’ Summit
- Union Minister for Railways, Communications and Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, has inaugurated a three-week-long virtual summit ‘Fintech Open’.
- This summit was organised by NITI Aayog in collaboration with PhonePe, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Ernst & Young (EY). NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman, Rajiv Kumar was also present at this summit.

Visa-free entry for Indian business travellers to the Maldives comes into force
- The Maldives has announced visa-free entry for Indian business travellers to the Maldives.
- It has commenced the process of granting Indian nationals with visa-free entry for business purposes for a period not exceeding the visa-free period of 90 days.

NASA plans to retire the International Space Station in 2031
- The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced that the International Space Station will continue its operation until 2030 and then crash into an uninhabited area in the Pacific Ocean known as Point Nemo in January 2031.
- It will be replaced with three free-flying space stations to continue the work after ISS’s retirement.

- The National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO), an apex real estate body, has appointed Alok Gupta as its new Director-General (DG).

- Senior scientist Unnikrishnan Nair took charge as the Director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), a key centre of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) that focuses on rocket and space vehicles.
- He will continue to also hold the position of Director of the Human Space Flight Centre (HSFC) that is spearheading the Gaganyaan Programme.

- Footwear maker Bata India Limited has appointed Bollywood actress Disha Patani as the new brand ambassador of Bata India.

- Sukla Mistry was appointed as the first woman functional director on the board of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), India’s largest oil refining and fuel marketing company.
- She will also be holding the positions of director on the board of Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL) and the 60 MMTPA Ratnagiri Refinery & Petrochemical Limited, the world’s largest grassroots refinery project coming up in Maharashtra.
Santishree Pandit was appointed as the first woman Vice-Chancellor of JNU
- Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit was appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) by the Union Ministry of Education. She became the first woman Vice-Chancellor of JNU.
- She is currently a political science professor at the Department of Politics and Public Administration at Savitribai Phule University in Maharashtra.

- Pfizer India has appointed Pradip Shah as the Chairman of its board. He succeeded A. Shah. Pradip Shah is the ex-managing director and a founding member of CRISIL.

Indian actor Akshay Kumar was appointed as Uttarakhand’s brand ambassador
- Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has appointed Akshay Kumar as the brand ambassador of Uttarakhand ahead of Assembly Elections in 2022.
- Previously, Akshay Kumar was appointed as the brand ambassador of Uttarakhand for the ‘Swachhta Abhiyan’. Apart from Akshay Kumar, Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant is also the brand ambassador of Uttarakhand for promoting sports and general health.

- NIFientreC is a technology business incubator hosted by the National Innovation Foundation (NIF), an autonomous body of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) under the Government of India.

- Private sector lender RBL Bank has partnered with Creditas Solutions, a global technology company in the field of delinquency management, for its ‘Neo Collections’ This intuitive platform will guide customers with personalised and insights to improve their credit scores.

Amazon India signs an MoU to turn rural women into entrepreneurs in Karnataka
- Amazon India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Karnataka State Rural Livelihood Promotion Society (KSRLPS) to support the growth of women entrepreneurs.
- This MoU was signed and exchanged in the presence of Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and Karnataka Minister of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood N. Aswat Narayan.

‘Mahabharat’s Bheem’ actor Praveen Kumar Sobti passed away at 74
- Actor-athlete Praveen Kumar Sobti passed away at the age of 74. He was best known for playing Bheem in the TV series ‘Mahabharat’. He represented India across various athletic events.
- He won gold medals in the discus throw event at the 1966 and 1970 Asian Games, as well as a silver medal at the 1966 Commonwealth Games. He was honoured with the Arjuna Award in 1967.
