Cabinet approves changes to Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill 2016

The Union Cabinet has cleared changes to the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2016. The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting.

AIR correspondent reports that among other decisions, the Cabinet also approved the ratification of two fundamental conventions of International Labour Organisation (ILO) to eradicate child labour from the country.

These are, Minimum Age Convention concerning minimum age for admission to employment, and the Worst Forms of Child Labour Convention concerning the prohibition and immediate action for elimination of the worst forms of Child Labour. India is a founder member of ILO, which came into existence in 1919.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) gave its nod to the amendment to New Urea Policy 2015. The amendment will protect the production beyond Re-Assessed Capacity by the urea units and is expected to boost indigenous urea production in the country.

CCEA also approved amendments in the Mega Power Policy to push 31 GigaWatt stranded projects entailing an investment of 1.5 lakh crore rupees. The initiative is mainly aimed at bringing down power tariff to make electricity more affordable and achieving the goal of 24X7 power for all.
