Union Government disburses Rs. 1253 crores to fund UDAN Scheme

The Union Government had disbursed Rs. 1253 crores to fund UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) Scheme from the Regional Connectivity Scheme and liability gap funding.

Parliament approves the Bill to set up a commission for air quality management in the National Capital Region

  • Parliament has passed the Commission for Air Quality Management in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas Bill 2021, in the Rajya Sabha. The Lok Sabha had already cleared the Bill.
  • This Bill provides for the constitution of a commission for better co-ordination, research, identification and resolution of problems related to air quality in the National Capital Region (NCR) and the adjoining areas.
  • Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh have been defined as the adjoining areas where any source of pollution may cause an adverse impact on air quality in the National Capital Region (NCR).

Union Government Introduces Taxation Laws Bill 2021 in Lok Sabha to scrap retrospective tax law

  • Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced the Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill 2021, in the Lok Sabha which eeks to withdraw tax demands made using a 2012 retrospective legislation to tax the indirect transfer of Indian assets.
  • The Union Government introduced a bill in the Lok Sabha seeking to scrap retrospective tax demands it had made on companies like Cairn Energy Plc and Vodafone Group of UK.

Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award was renamed as Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award will now be known as the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award. The Khel Ratna Award is the highest sporting honour in India.

TRIFED celebrates its 34th Foundation Day on 06 August 2021

  • Tribal Co-operative Marketing Federation of India (TRIFED) celebrated its 34th foundation day on 06 August 2021. TRIFED was founded to drive tribal development through marketing support for tribal products, both handicrafts and non-timber forest produce.

Maharashtra CM announces relief package for artists affected due to COVID-19

  • Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, along with the Maharashtra Cultural Affairs Minister Amit Deshmukh, took the decision to authorise a relief package for COVID-19-affected artists. This package will include folk artists, folk art troupe drivers, proprietors and producers.
  • Uddhav Thackeray promised financial aid of Rs.5,000 to each of the 56,000 artists in Maharashtra.
  • He also sanctioned a one-time COVID-19 assistance package for artists.

Telangana Government rolls out Dalit Bandhu scheme in Vasalamarri

  • Telangana Government has passed an order for the implementation of the Dalit Bandhu scheme with the release of Rs.7.60 crores providing assistance to 76 Dalit families in Vasalamarri village of Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district
  • The release of the financial aid of Rs 7.60 crores was issued by the Scheduled Castes Development Department through A Government Order (GO) which permitted the Telangana Scheduled Castes Co-operative Development Corporation (TSCCDC) to hand over the aid to the District Collector for implementation of the benefit of Dalit households in Alair assembly constituency.

Kerala Government launches ‘COVID-19 death information portal’

  • The Kerala Government launched a new COVID-19 death information portal to track the deaths of people in Kerala due to COVID-19
  • There is an option in the portal for the public to search for details of the death of their relatives.
  • People can obtain the details of the death from the portal by entering details such as name, district and date of death.

Ladakh launches ‘Pani Maah’ campaign to increase the pace of implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission

  • Ladakh has launched a month-long campaign, ‘Pani Maah’, to increase the pace of implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission and to inform and engage village communities on the importance of clean water.
  • ‘Pani Maah’ (water month) will run at the block and panchayat level in two phases. The first phase will run from 1 August to 14 August and the second phase will run from 16 August to 30 August
  • This campaign will adopt a three-pronged approach focussing on water quality testing, planning and strategising water supply and seamless functioning of pani sabha in villages.
  • In the first phase of ‘Pani Maah’, the focus will be on Swachhta Sarvekshan and sanitation drives by Village Water and Sanitation Committee (VWSC) or Pani Samiti members.
  • Phase two of ‘Pani Maah’ will focus on organising the pani sabhas, gram sabhas and block level meetings, and door-to-door visits for effective communication on water quality and service delivery under the Jal Jeevan Mission.

Suryoday Small Finance Bank launches a premium savings account product named “Suryoday Health and Wellness Savings Account”

  • Suryoday Small Finance Bank (SSFB) launched a premium savings account product named “Suryoday Health and Wellness Savings Account” to ensure that customers’ wealth not only grows but their families are also taken care of during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • This new savings account also offers three benefits for a family of four (self, spouse and two children) with a top-up health insurance of Rs. 25 lakhs, an annual healthcare package and on-call emergency ambulance medical care services.
  • Grants for ULBs have been released, as per the recommendations of the 15 th Finance Commission, for improving basic civic services, including fulfilling location-specific felt needs.

RBI’s MPC keeps the repo rate unchanged and maintains accommodative stance

  • The Monetary Policy Committee of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) kept the repo rate unchanged at 4%.
  • The repo rate is kept unchanged for the 7th consecutive time. Other major rates like Reverse Repo Rate, Bank Rate, Marginal Standing Facility (MSF), Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) and Statutory Liquidity Ratio (SLR) have also been kept unchanged.
  • The projection of real GDP growth is retained at 9.5 per cent in 2021–2022.

NABARD ties up with CWC to help farmers for better storage facilities 

  • National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) joined hands with Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) to provide better storage facilities for farmers’ producer organisations (FPOs).
  • This move will further boost the agriculture infrastructure in India.Under this partnership, state-of-the-art storage facilities will be made accessible to over 5,000 FPOs across India.
