  • Madhya Pradesh celebrated 7 August 2021 as Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana Day.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) in Madhya Pradesh via video- conferencing.
  • An intensive campaign to create more awareness about the PMGKAY scheme is being conducted by the Madhya Pradesh government so that no eligible person is left out.
  • This campaign is to encourage our handicrafts, handloom and our workmanship of cloth.

Union Minister of Culture G. Kishan Reddy inaugurates an exhibition on Quit India Movement

  • Union Minister of Culture G. Kishan Reddy inaugurated an exhibition on the Quit India Movement in New Delhi, which was organised on the 79th anniversary of Quit India Movement on 8 August.
  • As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav being celebrated to mark the 75th year of Indian Independence, the National Archives of India organised this exhibition.
  • This exhibition displayed the most exquisite collections of memoirs, photographs and other records that bring to life the immense contribution of the Quit India movement in achieving Indian Independence.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch Ujjwala Yojana 2.0 on 10 August

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch Ujjwala 2.0 (Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana – PMUY) by handing over Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) connections at Mahoba in Uttar Pradesh on 10 August.
  • In the Union Budget for 2021–2022, provision for an additional one crore LPG connections under the PMUY scheme was announced.
  • The aim of PMUY scheme is to provide deposit-free LPG connections to low-income families who could not be covered under the earlier phase of PMUY.
  • In Ujjwala 2.0, migrants will not be required to submit ration cards or address proof.
  • Along with a deposit-free LPG connection, Ujjwala 2.0 will also provide the first refill and hotplate free of cost to the PMUY beneficiaries.

Ujjwala 1.0:

  • This scheme was Launched in 2016 with a target to provide LPG connections to 5 crore women members of the below poverty line (BPL)

Union Government targets doubling handloom production and increasing exports four-fold in 3 years

  • India will work towards the target of doubling handloom production in three years to 1,25,000 crores and increasing exports four-fold to Rs.10,000 crores
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi recognised the contribution of the handloom sector towards the building of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and called for support for local handloom products.

Parliament passes the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2021

  • Parliament has passed the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2021 with the Lok Sabha clearing it.
  • This Bill seeks to amend the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation Act, 1961.
  • This Act seeks to provide depositors time-bound access to their insured deposit amount in case they are restricted from accessing their bank deposits.
  • The amended Bill mandates the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation to pay the insured amount to the depositors within 90 days of the date such liability arises.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the ninth installment of financial benefit under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM KISAN) via video- conferencing.
  • Over 19,000 crores were transferred to the bank accounts of 9.5 crore farmer families.

  • The Rajasthan Government formed a three-tier committee to monitor women- related grievances aimed at helping women employed in the unorganised sector.
  • The Rajasthan Government is in the process of bringing seven departments, including police, labour, justice, industries, social justice and medical, to set up a three-tier grievance redressal system.
  • It has taken the initiative for micro-level support for such women and extend the support, not just legal but also other social challenges as well.
  • This initiative will support all working women but asserted that it will benefit most of the low-earning groups and labour.

  • Earlier, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced a cash reward of 6 crores for Neeraj Chopra who hails from Panipat in Haryana.

  • Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has launched eNagar mobile application and portal.
  • The eNagar covers 10 modules with 52 services, including property tax, professional tax, water & drainage, complaints and grievance redressal, building permission and fire and emergency services.
  • Gujarat Urban Development Mission has been appointed as a nodal agency for the eNagar project. A total of 170 locations including 162 municipalities and 8 municipal corporations are covered under the eNagar project.

ADB approves $500m loan to help Pakistan procure COVID-19 vaccines

  • The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $500 million loan to help Pakistan procure and deploy safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines and strengthen Pakistan’s capacity to implement its vaccination program.
  • This project will support Pakistan’s National Deployment and Vaccination Plan by purchasing and delivering an estimated 39.8 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines, safety boxes and syringes.

Central Bank of India enters into a strategic co-lending partnership with Dhanvarsha Finvest

  • Central Bank of India (CBoI) has entered into a strategic co-lending partnership with Dhanvarsha Finvest Limited (DFL) to offer loans against gold ornaments under priority sector to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) borrowers at competitive rates.
  • Under this partnership, DFL will originate and process loans against gold ornaments as per jointly formulated credit parameters and eligibility criteria and CBoI will take into its book 80 per cent of the gold loans under mutually agreed terms, as per the Central Bank of India’s stock exchange filing.

  • The Telangana Government bagged the AI Gamechanger Award in the Xperience-AI Summit organised by Nasscom.

  • Indian Navy and UAE Navy undertook bilateral exercise ‘Zayed Talwar 2021’ off the coast of Abu Dhabi.
  • INS Kochi with two integral Sea King MK 42B helicopters was deployed in the Persian Gulf and participated in the Zayed Talwar 2021
  • UAE participated with UAES AL – Dhafra a Baynunah class guided missile corvette and one AS – 565B Panther helicopter.
  • As part of this exercise, the ships undertook tactical manoeuvres, over the horizon targeting, search and rescue and electronic warfare exercises to enhance interoperability and synergy between the two navies.
