Andhra Pradesh launched India’s first-ever government-run ambulance network for animals

  • The Andhra Pradesh Government launched “India’s first government-run ambulance network” for animals, to further boost the animal husbandry and veterinary sector in the state.
  • A total of 175 mobile ambulances (veterinary) clinics will be placed at Assembly Constituency Level on the lines of 108 Services for providing Veterinary.

Smart City Visakhapatnam gets the world’s first mobile water from Air Kiosk and Water Knowledge Centre

  • Maithri Aquatech, a company formed under the ‘Make in India’ initiative has set up the ‘World’s First Mobile Water from Air Kiosk and Water Knowledge Centre’ in the smart city of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
  • This initiative is supported by GVMC (Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation) and project SEWAH (Sustainable Enterprises for Water and Health) an alliance between USAID and SWN (Safe Water Network). USAID has partnered with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs under the Jal Jeevan program.

Net zero-emission energy transition to be achievable by 2050: NITI Aayog CEO

  • NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant reiterated the government’s commitment to achieving ‘Net Zero Emission’ targets in energy by 2050, even though it calls for a concerted strategy and massive investments.
  • “India: Transforming to a net-zero emissions energy system” by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and Shell. Kant stated that renewable energy, the use of hydrogen on a mission mode, and electric mobility will play a significant role in this transition.

  • The Jal Shakti Ministry entered a partnership with the United Nations Office for Project Services and the government of Denmark to help bring tap water connections to 11 water-scarce districts in Uttar Pradesh’s water-starved Bundelkhand and Vindhya regions under the Jal Jeevan mission.

World’s first ship tunnel to be built in Norway

  • Norway has received the go-ahead to construct the world’s first ship tunnel to help vessels navigate the treacherous Stadhavet Sea. First announced a few years ago by the Norwegian Coastal Administration, the 118-feet-wide tunnel will be built under the mountainous Stadhavet peninsula in northwestern Norway.
  • It will cost around $330 million to build the tunnel expected to complete in 2025-2026. The tunnel will be 49 m (161 ft) high and 36 m (118 ft) wide.

World’s 1st Catastrophe Bond for Volcanic Eruptions aims to improve disaster relief

  • The Danish Red Cross is offering the world’s first catastrophe bond for volcanic eruptions, which is designed to improve the provision and efficiency of humanitarian relief after the eruptions of 10 volcanoes across three continents.
  • The project’s partners aim to raise as much as $3 million with the launch of the note, which will transfer money to Denmark’s branch of the Red Cross.
  • Catastrophe bonds typically insure against damage from natural disasters like earthquakes and storms, with some already including volcanic eruptions in baskets of covered perils.

Dubai International Airport partnered with Magzter to become the world’s first ‘Smart Reading Airport’

  • Dubai International Airport (DXB) has partnered with digital magazine newsstand provider Magzter to offer its customers a collection of more than 7,000 leading magazines, newspapers, journals, and comics, becoming what it says is the world’s first ‘smart reading airport’.
  • DXB’s ‘Smart Reading Zone’ is accessed by logging onto the airport’s wi-fi network, which acts as a gateway to Magzter’s extensive collection of publications. It is a fully contactless and paperless digital experience through the use of geofencing satellite technology.

  • IOB Trendy is a Savings Bank Account Scheme introduced by the Indian Overseas Bank towards the endeavour of understanding the banking needs of millennials and customising the scheme to those needs.
  • At the time of opening an IOB Trendy account, one needs to be within the age bracket of 21–38 years. The account may be self or jointly operated. In case of a joint account, the primary holder has to be a millennial at the time of account opening.

Vyas Samman 2020 conferred on Hindi Writer Sharad Pagare

  • Renowned Hindi writer Sharad Pagare conferred with the prestigious “Vyas Samman 2020” award for his novel ‘Patliputru Ki Samragi.’ The Vyas Samman started in 1991 and is given by KK Birla Foundation for an outstanding literary work in Hindi authored by an Indian citizen published during the last 10 years. It carries an award of four lakh rupees along with a citation and plaque.
