International Day of Solidarity with Detained and Missing Staff Members – 25 March

  • International Day of Solidarity with Detained and Missing Staff Members is observed every year on 25 March to mobilise action, demand justice and strengthen its resolve to protect UN staff and peacekeepers.
  • This day is marked each year on the anniversary of the abduction of the former journalist Alec Collett, who was working for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) for Palestine Refugees in the Near East when he was abducted by armed gunman in 1985. His body was finally found in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley in 2009.

India’s First-ever SAI National Centre of Excellence for Mountain Terrain Biking and Bicycle Motocross to be set up in Shimla

  • Union Ministry of Sports is set to build India’s first-ever SAI National Centre of Excellence for Mountain Terrain Biking (MTB) and Bicycle Motocross (BMX) in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh.
  • This centre of excellence will provide world-class training facilities to Indian cyclists so that they can compete for 18 Olympic medals on offer in the disciplines of MTB and BMX.

  • Kerala Tourism has launched its 24×7 WhatsApp chatbot named ‘Maya’ to enable tourists to access all information and updates about the tourism ecosystem in Kerala by just sending a ‘Hi’ to the WhatsApp no 7510512345 (or) by scanning the QR code to access the service.
  • Chatbot Maya will serve as a virtual travel assistant for tourists to ask and get the complete information they need for a hassle-free travel experience in Kerala.

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das inaugurated the Reserve Bank Innovation Hub (RBIH) in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
  • The RBI has set up the RBIH as a Section 8 company under the Companies Act, 2013, with an initial capital contribution of ₹ 100 crores to encourage and nurture financial innovation sustainably through an institutional set-up.
  • This Hub has an independent Board with Kris Gopalakrishnan as the Chairman and other eminent persons from industry and academia as members.
  • RBIH aims to create an ecosystem that focuses on promoting access to financial services and products for the low-income population in India.

 

EbixCash partners with Axis Securities to offer integrated 3-in-1 savings, demat and trading account services to its customers

  • EbixCash Limited announced a strategic agreement with Axis Securities, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Axis Bank, to provide end-to-end trading services to customers of EbixCash.
  • The association offers a 3-in-1 account to the customers of EbixCash, allowing them to integrate savings, demat and trading accounts.
  • Under this partnership, EbixCash customers now have access to the seamless online platform of Axis Securities, empowering them to buy and sell stocks and other investment products.

AAI partners with Bharat Electronics Limited to develop indigenous Air Traffic Management Systems

  • Airports Authority of India (AAI) has partnered with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for indigenous development to develop indigenous Air Traffic Management Systems.
  • Under this Agreement, BEL and AAI will jointly develop a Civil Air Traffic Management System (ATMS) with Advanced-Surface Movement Guidance and Control System (ASMGCS), a complex ground surveillance system that manages air traffic at airports and in Indian Civil Airspace for the safe operation of flights from take-off to landing.

 

Tamil Nadu Agricultural University signs an MoU with World Resources Institute

  • The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with World Resources Institute (WRI) India to ensure green coverage across India and evaluate carbonisation through tree plantations.
  • This agreement would promote agroforestry development with inclusive social and economic empowerment among the rural communities in India.

Ola signs agreement to acquire neo bank Avail Finance

  • Mobility firm Ola has signed an agreement to acquire neo bank Avail Finance which provides financial services to the blue-collared workforce and has over six million users.
  • This acquisition is a key step in Ola’s broader push into the fintech space as it looks to build a mobility-focused financial services business under Ola Financial.

RBI approves appointment of Pralay Mondal as the interim MD and CEO of Catholic Syrian Bank

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the appointment of Pralay Mondal as interim Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Catholic Syrian Bank (CSB) for three months.
  • Pralay Mondal is current Deputy Managing Director of Catholic Syrian Bank. He succeeded V. R. Rajendran, who retired recently.

 

Lieutenant General Vinod G. Khandare was appointed as the Adviser in the Union Ministry of Defence

  • Lieutenant General Vinod G. Khandare was appointed as the Adviser in the Union Ministry of Defence. He served as the Military Adviser in the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) under the Prime Minister’s Office.
  • He served as both the Director-General of the Defence Intelligence Agency and the Deputy Chief in the Integrated Defence Staff for Intelligence.

 

Former SBI Chairman Rajnish Kumar joins the advisory board of Dun & Bradstreet

  • Former State Bank of India (SBI) Chairman Rajnish Kumar has joined the international strategic advisory board of data and analytics firm Dun & Bradstreet.
  • He is currently working on the boards of HSBC Asia Pacific, L&T Infotech, Hero MotoCorp and BharatPe.

President Ram Nath Kovind awards President’s Colour to INS Valsura in Gujarat

  • President Ram Nath Kovind has awarded the prestigious President’s Colour to Indian Naval Ship- INS) Valsura in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The President’s Colour is bestowed on a military unit in recognition of exceptional service rendered to India, both in peace and in war.
  • INS Valsura is a premier training establishment of the Indian Navy. It was established in 1942. It is entrusted with the responsibility of imparting training to officers and sailors of the Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard and friendly foreign countries in electrical, electronics, weapon systems and information technology.
