World Theatre Day – 27 March

  • World Theatre Day is celebrated every year on 27 March to raise awareness about the importance of theatre arts, their position in the sphere of entertainment and the transformations that theatre brings to people’s lives.
  • World Theatre Day was first celebrated in 1962. This year (2022) marks the sixteenth anniversary of World Theatre Day.
  • The theme of World Theatre Day every year is ‘Theatre and a culture of peace’.

Union Government designates 05 October as National Dolphin Day

  • The Union Ministry of Environment has designated 05 October as National Dolphin Day. The first National Dolphin Day is set to be celebrated on 05 October 2022 in India.
  • This decision to designate National Dolphin Day was taken by the standing committee of the National Board for Wildlife (NBWL).
  • NBWL is chaired by the Indian Prime Minister.

Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav 2022 was inaugurated at Rajamahendravaram in Andhra Pradesh

  • Union Minister for Culture, Tourism and Development of North Eastern Region K Reddy and Andhra Pradesh Governor Biswa Biswabhusan Harichandan inaugurated the twelfth edition of the Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav (RSM) at Rajamahendravaram, Andhra Pradesh.
  • This mega Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav will take place from 26 March to 03 April 2022 in the Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, under the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’.
  • The Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav is the flagship festival of the Union Ministry of Culture.

Union Government extends the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PM-GKAY) for another six months

  • Union Government has approved the extension of the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PM-GKAY) for another six months (from April 2022 to September 2022)
  • This extension would incur an additional cost of ₹ 80,000 crores for the next six months till September 2022 taking the total expenditure under the PMGKAY to nearly ₹ 3.40 lakh crores.
  • The PMGKAY scheme was launched by the Union Government in March 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide free foodgrains in India.

SIDBI signs an MoU with the Meghalaya Government to develop an MSME ecosystem

  • The Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Meghalaya Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation Limited (MiDFC) to develop the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) ecosystem in Meghalaya.
  • This MoU will work towards expanding digital offerings for MSMEs, mapping state-specific livelihood opportunities through expert consultants and extending of promotion and developmental initiatives of SIDBI in Meghalaya.

HDFC Mutual Fund is set to launch India’s first defence fund named ‘HDFC Defence Fund’

  • HDFC Mutual Fund has filed a scheme information document (SID) with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to launch India’s first defence fund named ‘HDFC Defence Fund’, an open-ended equity scheme that will be investing in defence and allied sector companies.
  • The allied sectors include aerospace, explosives, shipbuilding, industries/stocks present on the Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM) list or any other similar industries/stocks that are allied to the defence sector.

IIE signs an MoU with the Union Rural Development Ministry to enhance the impact of the Startup Village Entrepreneurship Programme

  • The Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Union Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) to promote entrepreneurship amongst the rural youth by initiating the ‘Startup Village Entrepreneurship Programme’ (SVEP).
  • The SVEP is the sub-scheme of the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM), which aims to support entrepreneurs in rural areas to set up enterprises at the village level in non-agricultural sectors.

  • Max Life Insurance has partnered with PhonePe to launch the ‘Max Life Smart Secure Plus Plan’, a non-linked non-participating individual pure risk premium life insurance plan to enhance the financial protection for digitally-savvy customers.
  • With this premium life insurance plan, PhonePe customers can avail of comprehensive financial coverage for their families with premiums starting as low as ₹ 4,426

  • Leading jewellery house, Kalyan Jewellers has appointed former Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) Vinod Rai as its Chairman and Independent Non-executive Director.
  • He is a former IAS officer who served as the eleventh CAG of India.
  • He is the current Chairman of the United Nations Panel of External Auditors, the Honorary Advisor to the Railways and a member of the Railway Kaya Kalp Council.

  • Renowned hydrologist Wilfried Brutsaert, also known as Evaporation, was awarded the Stockholm Water Prize 2022 for his groundbreaking work to quantify environmental evaporation.
  • His research helps to make accurate predictions of the impact that climate change has on local rainfall patterns and water sources.
  • He is a Professor in Engineering Emeritus at Cornell University, the United States.

Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad becomes the world’s second noisiest city in the ‘Annual Frontier Report 2022’

  • According to a report called the ‘Annual Frontier Report 2022’ published by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad (famously known as ‘brass city’) became the second noisiest city in the world.
  • Bangladesh’s capital city Dhaka (119 dB) was ranked as the noisiest city in the world. Dhaka was followed by Moradabad (India) at 114 dB, Islamabad (Pakistan) at 105 dB, Rajshahi (Bangladesh) at 103 dB and Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) at 103 dB.
  • The quietest cities in the world as per the report are Irbid (Jordan) at 60 dB, Lyon (France) at 69 dB, Madrid (Spain) at 69 dB, Stockholm (Sweden) at 70 dB and Belgrade (Serbia) at 70 dB.

Indian U-18 women’s football team clinches the SAFF U-18 Women’s Championship 2022 title

  • India U-18 women’s team emerged as the champions of the SAFF U-18 Women’s Championship 2022 by defeating Bangladesh at the J. R. D. TATA Sports Complex in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand.
  • Indian player Lynda Kom was named the valuable player of the tournament and the highest goal scorer (five goals) of the tournament.

BYJU’S was named as the official sponsor of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022

  • The Bengaluru-based edtech firm BYJU’S was selected as the official sponsor of FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) World Cup 2022 to be held in Qatar.
  • This would make BYJU’S the first edtech brand and become the first Indian firm to sponsor FIFA World Cup.
