International Day of Tolerance – 16 November
- International Day of Tolerance is observed on 16 November to create public awareness about the dangers of intolerance.
- The United Nations had declared 1995 as the Year for Tolerance.
- The Declaration of Principles on Tolerance was formulated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on 16 November 1995.
- Theme for 2021: ‘Tolerance is respect, acceptance and appreciation of the rich diversity of our world’s cultures, our forms of expression and ways of being human’.
National Press Day – 16 November
- National Press Day is observed on 16 November to acknowledge and honour the Press Council of India.
- This day is aimed at highlighting the importance of an independent press in a democracy.
- The Press Council of India was established on 16 November 1966 to oversee the quality of reporting in the Indian press.
- This day symbolises freedom of the press and its responsibilities towards society.

India launches its 41st scientific expedition to Antarctica
- India successfully launched the 41st scientific expedition to Antarctica. The first batch comprises 23 scientists and support staff.
- The 41st Antarctic expedition of India features two major programmes. One has to do with the Amery Ice Shelf, while the other has to do with the ice core drilling near the Maitri research station.
- The Indian Antarctic programme began in 1981 has completed 40 scientific expeditions so far.
- India has built three permanent research base stations in Antarctica, named Dakshin Gangotri, Maitri and Bharati.
Union Government brings an ordinance to extend the tenure of Enforcement Directorate and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) directors for five years
- The Union Government has brought an ordinance to extend the tenure of Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) directors up to five years.
- At present, the directors of the Central Bureau of Investigation and Enforcement Directorate have been appointed for two-year tenure by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) Act, 2003.
India observes its first edition of Audit Diwas on 16 November
- Prime Minister Modi presented a statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at the office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) on 16 November to commemorate the first edition of Audit Diwas.
- Audit Diwas is celebrated to mark the historical origin of the institution of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) and the contribution it has made to the governance, transparency and accountability over the past several years

Union Government and the Asian Development Bank signed a pact for the development of Agartala
- Union Government has inked a pact with the Asian Development Bank for a $61 million (around ₹454 crores) loan to fund development projects in Agartala, Tripura.
- This agreement was signed to increase liveability, harness technology and promote new developments in Agartala in order to handle the city’s growing population while also strengthening state agencies’ capability for improved service delivery.

Reserve Bank of India introduces an internal ombudsman mechanism for NBFCs
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has directed a few non-banking finance companies (NBFCs) to appoint an internal ombudsman to oversee their internal grievance redressal mechanisms within six months under Section 45 (L) of the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934.
- All deposit-taking NBFCs with 10 or more branches as well as non-deposit taking NBFCs with asset size of ₹5000 crores and more and having public customer interface, to appoint internal ombudsman at the top of their internal grievance redressal mechanism.
- Any complaints that have been partially or completely rejected by the NBFC will be evaluated by the ombudsman before the final decision of the NBFC is conveyed to the complainant.

Karnataka Bank launches CASA (current account savings account) campaign for 2021–22
- Karnataka Bank launched CASA (current account savings account) campaign for 2021–22 and introduced a new current account scheme named ‘KBL Current Account – Premium’, which – Premium’, which is specifically designed to meet the needs of small and medium entrepreneurs.
- Under this scheme, customers can have a new current account by maintaining a monthly average balance of ₹25,000 and can avail a host of premium facilities.

India, Singapore and Thailand participates in the third SITMEX trilateral maritime exercise
- The third edition of the Singapore–India–Thailand maritime exercise SITMEX 21 took place in the Andaman Sea hosted by the Royal Thai Navy (RTN).
- This trilateral exercise will focus on tactical naval manoeuvres and surface warfare drills.
- The indigenously built missile corvette Indian naval ship INS Karmuk took part in the trilateral maritime exercise.

- Renowned Hindi writer Mannu Bhandari passed away in New Delhi at the age of 90.
- She wrote ‘Aapki Banti’ and ‘Mahabhoj’ novels.
- Her famous novel ‘Yahi Sach Hai’ was adapted into a Hindi movie ‘Rajnigandha’ in 1974.
