DRDO Successfully Flight Tested Tactical Missile ‘Prahar’
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully flight tested the indigenously developed surface-to-surface tactical missile ‘Prahar’, from Launch Complex-III, ITR, Balasore in Odisha.
‘Prahar’ is a contemporary weapon system capable of carrying multiple types of warheads and neutralizing a wide variety of targets. The missile was launched from a mobile launcher.
Chief of the Army Staff General Bipin Rawat, Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO Dr G. Satheesh Reddy witnessed the launch.
Health Ministry Partners With Dell And Tata Trusts
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare exchanged the MoUs with the Tata Trusts and Dell to provide a technological platform for nationwide prevention, control, screening and management program of Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs).
Smt Anupriya Patel, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare presided over the ceremony and also released the user manual for NCD application under Comprehensive Primary Health Care (CPHC) IT Solutions.
Under Ayushman Bharat, it is decided to transform 1.5 Lakh Sub Centre and Public Health Centres into Health and Wellness Centres to provide a bouquet of 12 different kinds of services of which Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) form an important part.
Niger and India Signed for Establishing Mahatma Gandhi Convention Centre
India and Niger has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the implementation of Mahatma Gandhi International Convention Centre (MGICC) in Niamey, Niger with the Indian government’s grant assistance.
The agreement was signed by Secretary (Economic Relations), Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) TS Tirumurti and Ambassador of Republic of Niger in India Ali Illiassou.
The centre honours the memory of Mahatma Gandhi, whose 150th birth anniversary is also being observed in 2019. The establishment of the centre is a landmark for Niger-India friendship and also a symbol of India’s firm commitment towards Africa.

PM Modi to inaugurate first airport of western Odisha in Jharsuguda
Odisha is all set to get its second operational airport. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in the state to launch some other projects and inaugurate the airport.
The government had said in August 2014 that it planned to develop Jharsuguda Airport for operations of A320 type of aircraft.
Till now, Bhubaneswar was the only operational AAI airport in Odisha. The Jharsuguda airport will be second operational AAI airport in the state. Jharsuguda airport will bring western Odisha on the aviation map of India.
The airport will facilitate regional air connectivity through the UDAN scheme.The airport has been developed at an estimated project cost of Rs 210 crore.
Jharkhand govt inks MoU with NICL for Ayushman Bharat Scheme
The Jharkhand government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Insurance Company Ltd to provide medical facilities to the people of the state under the Centre’s flagship health scheme – Ayushman Bharat Yojana.
The scheme will be launched nationally by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Ranchi. The MoU has been signed for quality and timely medical treatment to the citizens.
Mousumi Khatua – First Bengali woman to summit Mt. Damavand
Mousumi Khatua became the first woman from Kalyani City, West Bengal to climb Asia’s highest volcanic peak Mount Damavand.
Mousumi along with ace mountaineer, Satyarup Siddhanta, and Bhaswati Chatterjee began the expedition to Mt. Damavand, the highest peak in Iran and a potentially active volcano.
At an elevation of 5,610 meters, Mt. Damavand is known for its Sulphur discharge near its peak which can cause irreparable damage if exposed for a longer duration.

Japanese businessman to become the first private moon tourist
A Japanese billionaire and online fashion tycoon, Yusaku Maezawa, will be the first man to fly on a monster SpaceX rocket around the Moon as early as 2023, and he plans to bring six to eight artists along.
Maezawa, 42, will be the first lunar traveler since the last US Apollo mission in 1972.
Maezawa is chief executive of Japan’s largest online fashion mall, and is the 18th richest person in Japan with a fortune of $3 billion, according to the business magazine Forbes.
The BFR, or the Big Falcon Rocket, is still in development. Under the current design, the BFR will be 118 meters long, with a payload capacity of 1,100 cubic meters and 100 metric tons.
BANKING AND ECONOMY
Fitch raises India’s FY19 GDP growth forecast to 7.8%
The US multinational Fitch Ratings raised India’s GDP growth forecast for the current fiscal to 7.8 percent, up from their earlier estimate of 7.4 percent.
Fitch estimated retail inflation to rise up to the higher end of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI)’s target of 4 per cent with a band range of 2 per cent either way.
Fitch also lowered India’s GDP growth forecasts for the fiscals 2019-20 and 2020-21 by 0.2 percentage points to 7.3 percent.
IRDAI frames panel to examine fintech issues
IRDAI has constituted a committee, comprising its officials as well as senior executives of a few insurers, to study regulatory issues fin-tech poses for insurance.
With IRDAI Chief General Manager Randip Singh Jagpal as the chairperson, the committee would identify key regulatory issues and gaps pertaining to fin-tech in insurance.
It has been asked to prepare a consultation paper on sandbox approach and submit report within two months.

Anushka Sharma Receives Smita Patil Award
The 34th Priyadarshni Academy Anniversary Global Awards were held at Hotel Trident, Mumbai on Sept. 19.
The awards are committed to honoring real achievers who have left an indelible mark on society through their meritorious efforts and services.
Among the eminent personalities awarded this year included actress-producer Anushka Sharma, who was honored with the Smita Patil Memorial Award, while entrepreneur par excellence Ronnie Screwvala was awarded the Priyadarshni Academy Global Award for his outstanding contribution towards Innovative Entertainment as well as Community Development.
Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy awarded to Guru Nanak Dev University
Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar, has won the prestigious Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy for 2017-18. GNDU has reclaimed the trophy after a gap of six years.
The MAKA Trophy, first given in 1956-57, is awarded annually to the university with the best all-round performance. The winner gets a replica of the trophy, a certificate and a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh, which is to be utilised for sports activities.
Punjabi University, who had been winning the trophy since 2011-12, was second with a total of 88840 points. The Panjab University, Chandigarh, was third.

The Women’s Boxing World Championships In India
The World Women’s Boxing Championships, to be hosted by India after more than a decade, will be held from November 15 in the national capital New Delhi.
The marquee tournament was last held in India in 2006 and remains the best for the country in terms of performance. India had topped the medal tally with four gold, three silver and one bronze medal.
The first edition of the women’s world championship was held in the United States in Scranton in 2001.

UGC directs universities to celebrate ‘Surgical Strike Day’
The University Grants Commission (UGC) observes September 29 as “Surgical Strike Day” and encouraged students to pledge their support for the armed forces.
It also directed NCC units of all varsities to hold a special parade to mark the day. This comes amid the Narendra Modi government’s plan to celebrate the second anniversary of the ‘surgical strikes’ on September 29.
