Karnataka Budget: Siddaramaiah announces ‘Namma’ canteen, abolishes VAT on liquor

Making the announcement, Siddaramaiah proposed to increase the retirement age of private sector employees from the present 58 years to 60 years. The premium bikes are set to go dearer in Karnataka as government has increased the Motor vehicle tax on two wheeler priced above Rs 1 lakh by 6% to 18%. 

The government allocated Rs 100 crores for Namma Canteens which will provide breakfast for Rs.5, lunch/dinner for Rs.10. Karnataka government also proposed to set up a Centre of Excellence in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence and Cyber Security Centre. The value-added tax (VAT) on liquor will be removed from April 1


Amarinder Singh sworn-in as Punjab CM

    Amarinder Singh was sworn-in as Punjab Chief Minister at the Raj Bhawan in Chandigarh. The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief is the state’s 26th chief minister. Navjot Singh Sidhu and Congress leader Braham Mohindra also took oath as cabinet ministers.


Union cabinet approves National Health Policy

    The proposed National Health Policy, assured to ‘healthcare services for all,’ the NHP aims to strengthen primary health centres and district hospitals. The draft also addressed the issues of universal health coverage, reducing maternal and infant mortality rate, as well as making drugs and diagnostics available free at least in the public healthcare system of the country.

Banana Research Center in Bihar

In order to fulfil the requirements of local banana growers union Agriculture and Farmer’s welfare Minister Radha Mohan Singh launched a research center for Banana at vaishali, Bihar. This new center will deal with the problems related to production of Banana across the country. Utilization of different parts of the plant.

Jet Airways partners with Uber to provide door to door travel option to fliers

Jet Airways announced a strategic association with ride-hailing major Uber to enhance its guest experience. The airline will partner with Uber to offer its guests greater choice by facilitating their travel to/from the airport once they have booked a ticket on the Jet Airways app. This initiative from the airline will offer guests a solution of doorstep to doorstep commute.


Microsoft hybrid cloud platform to power Andhra Pradesh data centre

    The government of Andhra Pradesh inked an agreement with the Redmond, Washington-based firm to utilise the latter’s hybrid cloud platform, called Azure Stack, for AP State Data Centre (SDC) located in Hyderabad. Under the agreement, the Microsoft cloud solution will be used to migrate live applications currently hosted in SDC in Hyderabad to Visakhapatnam data centre.


State Bank of India signs MoU with CREDAI

State Bank of India and real estate developers’ body CREDAI have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly conduct various initiatives towards development of the realty sector. The MoU will be in force for a period of 3 years. Both of us have a common objective of making every Indian own a home of their own, said by SBI Managing Director (National Banking Group) Rajnish Kumar.


UCO Bank, Future Generali tie up

Private insurer Future Generali India Insurance Company (FGII) has entered into a corporate agency tie-up for its products with public lender UCO Bank. The PSU lender will provide a window at its bank branches for marketing FGII’s offerings.


Axis Bank opens new branch in Nadiad

    Private sector lender Axis Bank announced the opening of its new branch in Nadiad, Gujarat. The bank now has 282 branches in the state. The bank will leverage the branch to reach out to customers and empower them with digital offerings and facilitate services through Axis Pay and Axis Mobile application.


Singapore-based cab aggregator Grab opens R&D centre in Bengaluru

    Singapore-headquartered ride-hailing platform Grab announced the opening of an R&D centre in Bengaluru. It has hired Raghuram Trikutam to head Engineering and Mobile Payments, and Ruchika Sharma to head HR.


IndusInd bank acquired Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services Ltd

100% stake of Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services Ltd is acquired by IndusInd bank for an undisclosed amount. Romesh Sobti, MD and CEO of IndusInd bank stated that IL&FS security services had a total revenue of 277.6 crore.


Healthhelp is acquired by WNS

WNS is a NYSE listed business process Management firm has acquired Houston, Texas based Healthhelp an industry leader in care management for $95million. WNS is headquartered in Mumbai.

India hosts world’s oldest algae fossil

Scientists in India have uncovered a pair of 1.6 billion year-old fossils that appear to contain red algae, which may be the oldest plant-like life discovered on Earth. Until now, the oldest known red algae was 1.2 billion years old, said the paper in the journal PLOS Biology.
