Exam Pattern of the OICL AO 2017
Dear Banking Aspirant ,
There are lots of exams in the forthcoming days to come and not every exam have the same pattern. There are multiple variations in the exams and you have to know them to devise a strategy to crack the exams. Ultimately the final thing for a candidate is to crack the exam and to find a spot in the final list and it’s a dream come true if that happens.
OICL has released the notification and the vacancies are for multiple posts and the pattern of the exams will be different for different posts. It has been separated as generalists and specialists. Those who apply for generalists posts will take the generalist pattern exams.
OICL Administrative Officer Recruitment 2017 Notification Released
Those who apply for the post of accounts , actuaries , Automobile Engineers , Legal Officers and Medical Officers will take the Specialist Pattern exams. These specialist vacancies account for 77 Posts and the generalists vacancies account for 223 posts giving a total vacancies of 300 posts in common.
There are 3 Phases for this exam and it has differences in only one phase for different posts. The three phases are :
Phase I : Preliminary Examination
Phase II : Mains Examination (Pattern differs according to the posts)
Phase III : Interview
Note : The phase I and Phase II examination will be a online exam and both the phases of the exam will be objective type exam.
Phase I : Preliminary Examination
- No. of Questions : 100
- Total Marks : 100
- Duration : Composite Time of 60 Minutes(1 Hour)
As we all know , like every other preliminary exam , this exam too has three sections like Quantitaitve aptitude , Reasoning Ability and Test of English Language with 100 questions and a total of 100 marks with a total duration of one hour.
This Preliminary examination will be held in Online Mode and will be in English and Hindi.
NOTE: Only the English Section will be in English Language , The questions in other sections like Reasoning ability and Quantitative Aptitude will be in both English and Hindi.

- Also candidates have to qualify in each section by securing the minimum qualifying marks and also the overall qualifying marks to clear this phase of the exam.
- Approximately 20 Times the number of vacancies will be shortlisted for the mains examination.
Phase II : Mains Examination
For Generalists :
Objective Test
- No. of Questions : 200 (4 Sections)
- Total Marks : 200
- Duration : 2 Hours
Descriptive Test
- Duration : 30 Minutes
- Total Marks : 30 Minutes

- Letter Writing-10marks
- Essay-20 marks

- The exam will be in Online Mode
- Other than the English section , every other section will be in both English and Hindi.
- There are 4 sections in this mains examination for the generalists posts and for a composite time of 2 hours.
- No sectional timing and the test is for 120 minutes.
- The descriptive test will get started immediately after the Objective test is over and it is for a duration of 30 minutes and will be in online mode and only in English language.
For Specialists :

- Total Marks : 200
- Duration : 2 Hours
Descriptive Test
- Duration : 30 Minutes
- Total Marks : 30 Minutes

- The pattern for this posts has a change and this exam has 5 sections and the only addition is that this exam has Test of Professional Knowledge as one of the Sections and the each sections has totally 40 questions individually .
- Other than English Language , every other section in this exam will be in both English and Hindi.
- The descriptive test will get started immediately after the Objective test is over and it is for a duration of 30 minutes and will be in online mode and only in English language.
Descriptive Test (For Both Generalists and Specialists )

As already mentioned , the test is for a duration of 30 minutes and will be in English and will be conducted through On-line mode. The total marks of the test is 30 minutes.
- Descriptive answers will be evaluated only for the candidates who qualify the objective mains examination.
- The candidate also has to get highest marks in order to get the descriptive answers evaluated.
- The cut off for the descriptive test will decided according to the number of vacancies.
NOTE : A candidate shall be required to qualify in the descriptive test, but the marks in the descriptive test will not be counted towards short listing for interviews or final selection.
Phase III : Interview
The candidates who qualify in the Objective test and the descriptive test with high scores will qualify for the Phase III. The descriptive test marks will not be counted in the shortlisting for interviews or for the final selection. The final selection will be based on the marks obtained in the mains examination and in the Interview. The ratio will be in 80:20.
