Important Phrasal Verbs Part – 3

A phrasal verb is a combination of words (a verb + a Preposition or verb +adverb) that when used together, usually take on a different meaning to that of the original verb.

1) Beef

Beef up – Make something stronger or more solid

2) Belt

Belt out – Sing something loudly

Belt up – Be quiet

3) Bend

Bend down (or over) – Lower the top half your body

Bend over backwards – Do a lot to try to help or please someone

4) Blare

Blare out – A loud sound or Music

5) Blast

Blast off – Leave the ground

6) Blaze

Blaze away – Fire a gun repeatedly

7) Bliss

Bliss out – Be extremely relaxed and happy

8) Block

Block in – Park a car and obstruct another car

Block off – Obstruct an exit to prevent people from leaving

Block out – Stop light from emtering or leaving

Block up – Fill a space so that nothing can pass

9) Blow

Blow away – Kill

Blow down – When the wind forces something to fall

Blow off – Not keep an appointment

Blow out – Extinguish candles, matches etc

Blow over – When a scandal gets forgetten

Blow up – Explode

10) Bog

Bog down -Make slow progress

Bog in (or into) – Eat enthusiastically

11) Boil

Boil down – Simplify, reduce to the essentials

Boil down to – Amount to

Boil Over – When a hot liquid Spills out of a container
