a)

P=1000000

R1=15%

R2=35%

R3=45%

Population of city at the end of year 2007

=P(1+R1/100)(1-R2/100)(1+R3/100)

=1000000*115/100*65/100*145/100

=1083875

3) In an examination, Arun scored 35 marks less than Rahul. Rahul scored 55 more marks than Monika. Rohit scored 85 marks, which is 10 marks more than Monika’s. Raju scored 61 marks less than the maximum marks of the test. What approximate percentage of marks did Raju score in the examination, if he got 44 marks more than Arun?

a) 80%

b) 75%

c) 70%

d) 62%

e) None of these

c)

Let Arun=A; Rahul=Ra; Rohit=Ro; Raju=Rj; Monika=M

A=Ra-35

Ra=55+M

Ro=85=10+M

Rj=Max-61

Rj=44+A

By solving these, we get Rj=139; Max=200

So Rj%=139/100 × 100 =69.5%=70%

4) In an examination, 5% of the applicants were found ineligible and 85% of the eligible candidates belonged to the general category. If 4275 eligible candidates belonged to other categories, then how many candidates applied for the examination?

a) 33000

b) 32000

c) 30000

d) 28000

e) None of these

b)

Let the number of candidates applied for the examination = x
Given that 5% of the applicants were found ineligible.
It means that 95% of the applicants were eligible ( 100% – 5% = 95%)

Given that 85% of the eligible candidates belonged to the general category

It means 15% of the eligible candidates belonged to other

categories (100% 85% = 15%)

95x*15/100*100= 4275

5) If the base of a triangle is increased by 50% and its height is decreased by 50%, then what will be the effect on its area?

a) 50% decrease

b) 75% increase

c) No effect

d) 25% decrease

e) 25% increase

d)

Area of triangle = (1/2) * base * height
So effect on area = +50 + (-50) + (50)(-50)/100 = -25%

6) In an examination, Ramesh scored 25 marks less than Romit. Romit scored 45 more marks than Sania. Rohan scored 75 marks which is 10 more than Sania. a) 90

b) 70

c) 80

d) 60

e) 85

b)

Rohan’s marks = 75

Sania’s marks=65

Romit’s marks = 110

Ramesh marks = 110-25=85

Ravi got marks = 85+34=119

Total Maximum marks = 119+50=169

Percentage of Ravis mark = 119/169*100=70

b) 52

c) 76

d) 78

e) 70

a)

No of boys = x
No of girls =X + x(45/100)
= 29x/20
Total = X+(29x/20) = 294
49x = 294×20 = 5880
X = 5880/49 = 120(boys)
Girls = (29×120)/20 = 174
Difference = 174 – 120 = 54

d)

180000-100%

19800-(11% of 180000)

180000+19800=199800

9% of 199800=17982

199800-17982=181818

Population of town at the end of two years= 181818

b)

Let 100 kg of hematite be obtained then 20% of it get wasted that means 80 kg of remain.

Pure iron = 25% of remaining are = 80 x 25/100= 20

20 kg pure iron is from 100 kg hematite.

1 kg pure iron is obtained from = 100/20 hematite.

80000 kg pure iron is = 100/20 x 80000

= 40000 kg hematite
