Can anyone deny the fact that child labour exists in many countries, even today. Children below 14 years working in various places is a UBIQUITOUS sight. They work on agricultural fields, rice mills, Restaurants, provisional stores, bus stands and the like. They are offer seen PERILOUSLY hanging out of autos, buses, touting for passengers.

Child labour is not a recent phenomenon. It has been existing from time immemorial. Abject poverty is the main cause of child labour. Poor people living in squalid surroundings, often abandon their children, unable to feed them. DESTITUTE children are forced to FEND for themselves and they seek work whenever they can find it. This situation is EXPLOITED by people who engage and pay them PALTRY sums of money. Children work for a PITTANCE, if only to buy a meal. It is APPALLING to see children working, when they should be in a school studying.

Child Labour is such a serious malady that Government and the society, IN TANDEM, should take effective steps to eradicate it. It the issue has to be addressed adequately half measures will not help. Merely passing legislation to make child labour a crime, is not enough. Since the law LACKS TEETH, people merrily indulge is it. The authorities should CRACKDOWN on the offenders with an iron hand. Society should also be alert and ensure that children are not deprived of the fundamental right to education, so that they lead a decent life when they grow up.
