DAY IN HISTORY

1. 8 August is celebrated as Quit India Movement Day

  • 8 August has made a significant mark in Indian history and is celebrated every year. This year, the day marks the 79th anniversary of Quit India Movement Day. 
  • The Quit India Movement Resolution was passed at the Wardha Conference of All India Congress Committee in July 1942.
  • The movement started with Gandhiji exhorting the countrymen with his powerful slogan, ‘do or die’ which infused new energy into our independence movement and eventually forced the British to leave India in 1947.

 

1. 8 ஆகஸ்ட் வெள்ளையனே வெளியேறு இயக்க தினம் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது

  • 8 ஆகஸ்ட் இந்திய வரலாற்றில் ஒரு முக்கியத்துவம் வாய்ந்த தினம் ஆகும். ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் வெள்ளையனே வெளியேறு இயக்க தினமாக 8 ஆகஸ்ட் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது. இந்த ஆண்டு வெள்ளையனே வெளியேறு இயக்க தினத்தின் 79 வது ஆண்டு நிறைவைக் குறிக்கிறது.
  • ஜூலை 1942, அகில இந்திய காங்கிரஸ் கமிட்டியின் வார்தா மாநாட்டில் வெள்ளையனே வெளியேறு இயக்கத் தீர்மானம் நிறைவேற்றப்பட்டது.
  • இந்த இயக்கம், சுதந்திர இயக்கத்தில் ஒரு புதிய ஆற்றலைத் திணித்த, 1947இல் பிரிட்டிஷாரை இந்தியாவை விட்டு வெளியேற நிர்ப்பந்தித்த ‘செய் அல்லது செத்து மடி’ என்ற காந்திஜி yin சக்திவாய்ந்த கோஷத்துடன் தொடங்கியது.

2. 9 August is observed as Nagasaki Day

  • The highly destructive atomic bomb attacks on Nagasaki during World War II completes 76 years.
  • In an attempt to carry out the ‘twin attacks’, the first atomic bomb known as ‘Little Boy’ was dropped on the western city of Hiroshima on 6 August 1945.
  • Another bomb ‘Fat Man’ was hurled at Nagasaki three days later on August 9, killing an estimated 40,000 people.

 

2. 9 ஆகஸ்ட் நாகசாகி தினமாக அனுசரிக்கப்படுகிறது

  • இரண்டாம் உலகப் போரின் போது நாகசாகி மீது நடத்தப்பட்ட அணுகுண்டுத் தாக்குதல்கள் 76 ஆண்டுகளை நிறைவு செய்து உள்ளன.
  • ‘இரட்டைத் தாக்குதல்களை’ நடத்தும் முயற்சியாக, ‘லிட்டில் பாய்’ ‘(Little Boy) என்று அழைக்கப்பட்ட முதல் அணுகுண்டு மேற்கு நகரமான ஹிரோஷிமா மீது 6 ஆகஸ்ட் 1945 அன்று வீசப்பட்டது.

3. 9 August is celebrated as International Day of the world’s Indigenous Peoples

  • The International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples is observed on 9 August each year to raise awareness and protect the rights of the world’s indigenous population.
  • It was first pronounced by the United Nations General Assembly in December 1994, marking the day of the first meeting of the UN Working Group on Indigenous Populations of the Sub-Commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights in 1982.
  • The theme for the year 2021 is ‘Leaving no one behind: Indigenous peoples and the call for a new social contract’.

 

3. 9 ஆகஸ்ட் சர்வதேச உலக பூர்வக்குடி மக்களின் தினமாக கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது

  • சர்வதேச உலக பூர்வக்குடி மக்களின் தினம் ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் 9 ஆகஸ்ட் அன்று கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது, இது, விழிப்புணர்வை ஏற்படுத்தவும் உலகின் பூர்வக்குடி மக்களின் உரிமைகளைப் பாதுகாக்கவும் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது.

TAMILNADU

4. ‘Zen dens’ established for police personnel to meditate

  • The Tamil Nadu Special Police (TSP) has established dedicated silent spaces called ‘Zen zones’ and ‘Zen dens’ for personnel in all 16 battalions spread across several parts of Tamil Nadu.
  • Here, police personnel will be allowed to spend time meditating to get over stressful circumstances.
  • Additional Director General of Police, Jayanth Murali, was instrumental in starting this initiative.

 

4. போலீஸ் அதிகாரிகள் தியானம் செய்ய ‘ஜென் டென்ஸ்‘ நிறுவப்பட்டுள்ளது

  • தமிழ்நாட்டின் பல பகுதிகளில் உள்ள 16 படைப்பிரிவின் பணியாளர்களுக்காக ‘ஜென் மண்டலங்கள்‘ மற்றும் ‘ஜென் டென்ஸ்‘ என்று அழைக்கப்படும் பிரத்யேக தியானம் செய்யும் இடங்களை தமிழ்நாடு சிறப்பு காவல்துறை (TSP) நிறுவியுள்ளது.

5. Chief Minister Stalin launches tree planting drive in temples

  • Chief Minister M. K. Stalin launched a scheme to plant one lakh ‘Sthala Vriksham’, tree saplings, at temple nandavanams (gardens).
  • He planted a sapling of the Nagalinga tree at the head office of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department in Nungambakkam.

6. RPF designs bio-toilets for women police officials

  • The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has designed moveable bio-toilets, which can be assembled and dismantled in a few minutes.
  • This was designed to provide privacy to women police officials and constables during training programmes outside office premises.

7. Shri Rameswar Teli launches 3rd ONGC handicraft project

  • Minister of State (MoS), Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Labor and Employment Shri Rameswar Teli launched ONGC-supported Assam Handloom project ‘Ujjwal Abahan’ on 6 August 2021 through a virtual platform.
  • The project will support and train over a hundred artisans of Bhatiapar of Sivasagar, Assam in Hathkharga handicraft.

 

7. 3வது ஓஎன்ஜிசி கைவினைத் திட்டத்தை திரு. ராமேஸ்வர் டெலி தொடங்கி வைத்தார்

8. The first test run of the warship ‘Vikrant’ wins

  • ‘Vikrant’, the first indigenously built aircraft carrier, has completed its first test
  • The aircraft carrier Vikrant has been developed indigenously at a length of 262 metres, 62 metres wide, 59 metres high weighing 40,000 tonnes.
  • The construction of the ship started in 2009 at Kochi Shipyard in Kochi and ended recently.

 

8. ‘விக்ராந்த்’ போா்க்கப்பலின் முதல் சோதனை ஓட்டம் வெற்றி

9. 2 women officers appointed for the first time in ITBP

  • For the first time, two women officers have been appointed in the Indo-Tibet Border Police Force (ITBP).
  • Women have been appointed to the Indo-Tibet Border Force since 2016, but have not been appointed to combat missions.
  • For the first time, two women officers Prakriti and Diksha have been appointed in the posts of Assistant Commandant in the Indo Tibet Border Force.

 

9. ஐடிபிபி படையில் முதன்முறை 2 பெண் அதிகாரிகள் நியமனம்

10. Joint Naval Exercise of India, UAE

  • India and the United Arab Emirates conducted a joint naval exercise to strengthen security cooperation between the two countries.
  • The exercise took place at the coast of Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.

 

10. இந்தியா, ஐக்கிய அரபு அமீரகம் கூட்டு கடற்படைப் பயிற்சி

  • இந்தியா – ஐக்கிய அரபு அமீரகம் இடையே பாதுகாப்பு ஒத்துழைப்பை வலுப்படுத்தும் விதமாக இரு நாடுகளும் இணைந்து கூட்டு கடற்படை பயிற்சியில் ஈடுபட்டன.
  • ஐக்கிய அரபு அமீரகம் தலைநகா் அபுதாபியையொட்டிய கடற்பகுதியில் இந்த போா் பயிற்சி நடைபெற்றது.

11. Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose Covid vaccine gets emergency use authorisation in India

  • India has approved to US drug maker Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose Covid-19 vaccine for emergency use in India.
  • Now, India has 5 EUA vaccines. So far, four vaccines have been given Emergency Use Authorisation (EUA) in India – AstraZeneca’s Covishield, Covaxin, Sputnik V and Moderna.

 

11. ஜான்சன் அண்ட் ஜான்சனின் ஒற்றை டோஸ் கோவிட் தடுப்பூசி இந்தியாவில் அவசர பயன்பாட்டு அங்கீகாரத்தைப் பெற்றது

  • இந்தியாவில் அவசரகால பயன்பாட்டிற்காக அமெரிக்க மருந்து தயாரிப்பாளர் ஜான்சன் அண்ட் ஜான்சனின் ஒற்றை டோஸ் கோவிட்-19 தடுப்பூசிக்கு மத்திய அரசு ஒப்புதல் அளித்துள்ளது.

SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

12. New technique to study ultrasmall particles in cells

  • Researchers from Indian Institutes of Technology, Madras and Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Kolkata have developed a method to detect minute quantities of chemicals in solution.
  • With this technique, they can, in principle, illuminate the insides of cells and detect minuscule quantities of substances present there. The work was published in Nanoscale.

13. Neeraj Chopra wins gold medal in javelin for India in Olympics 2020

  • After 13 years, India’s Neeraj Chopra won a Gold medal in Javelin-a track-and-field event in Tokyo Olympics 2020.
  • It is the second individual Olympic gold medal in the country’s history after Abhinav Bindra shooting gold in Beijing in 2008.
  • It is also India’s first medal in a track-and-field event.

 

13. ஒலிம்பிக்கில் இந்தியாவுக்காக ஈட்டியில் தங்கப் பதக்கம் வென்றார் நீரஜ் சோப்ரா

  • 13 ஆண்டுகளுக்குப் பிறகு டோக்கியோ ஒலிம்பிக் 2020-ல் நீரஜ் சோப்ரா ஈட்டியில் தங்கப் பதக்கம் வென்றார்.

14. Bajrang Punia wins bronze in Tokyo Olympics 2020

  • Bajrang Punia won the bronze medal in men’s freestyle 65 kg wrestling against Daulet Niyazbekov of Kazakhstan.
  • After Sushil Kumar, Bajrang is the first Indian wrestler to win medals in both Olympics and the World championships.
  • Bajrang was the sixth Indian wrestler ever to claim an Olympic medal.

 

14. டோக்கியோ ஒலிம்பிக் 2020-ல் பஜ்ரங் புனியா வெண்கலம் வென்றார்

  • கஜகஸ்தானின் டௌலெட் நியாஸ்பெகோவுக்கு எதிரான ஆண்கள் 65 கிலோ பிரிவில் மல்யுத்தத்தில் பஜ்ரங் புனியா வெண்கலப் பதக்கம் வென்றார்.

15. Tokyo Olympics 2020 completed

  • In Tokyo, the capital of Japan, the Tokyo Olympics 2020 began on 23 July 2021 and ended on 7 August 2021. More than 11,000 athletes from 206 countries competed in the Tokyo Olympics.
  • India is ranked 48th with 7 medals – one gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze.
  • The United States topped the Tokyo Olympics with 113 medals, including 39 gold, while China was second with 38 gold medals.
  • Japan is ranked 3rd with 58 medals.

 

15. டோக்கியோ ஒலிம்பிக் 2020 நிறைவடைந்தன

  • ஜப்பான் தலைநகர் டோக்கியோவில், டோக்கியோ ஒலிம்பிக் 2020 ஜூலை மாதம் 23ஆம் தேதி தொடங்கி 7 ஆகஸ்ட் அன்று நிறைவு பெற்றது. 206 நாடுகளில் இருந்து 11 ஆயிரத்திற்கும் மேற்பட்ட வீரர்கள் டோக்கியோ ஒலிம்பிக் போட்டிகளில் பங்கேற்று திறமையை வெளிப்படுத்தினர்.

APPOINTMENTS

16. Hockey player Vandana Kataria made Uttarakhand’s Women and Child Development ambassador

  • Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami appointed Team India’s hockey player Vandana Katariya as the state’s brand ambassador for the Department of Women Empowerment and Child Development.
  • She was a part of the Indian team that won a bronze medal at the 2014 Asian Games and represented India at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
  • In the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Vandana became the first Indian woman to score an Olympic hat-trick in hockey.

 

16. ஹாக்கி வீரர் வந்தனா கட்டாரியா உத்தரகாண்ட் மகளிர் மற்றும் குழந்தைகள் மேம்பாட்டு தூதராக நியமிக்கப்பட்டார்

  • உத்தரகாண்ட் முதல்வர் புஷ்கர் சிங் தாமி, இந்திய அணியின் ஹாக்கி வீரர் வந்தனா கட்டாரியாவை மகளிர் மற்றும் குழந்தைகள் மேம்பாட்டு துறையின் மாநில விளம்பரதூதராக நியமித்தார்.

17. Tindivanam Ramamurthy passed away

  • Former Tamil Nadu Congress Party president Tindivanam Ramamurthy (87) passed away due to illness.
  • Tindivanam Ramamurthy was a Member of Rajya Sabha from 1984 to 1990 and the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly from 1981 to 1984.
  • He was also the president of Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party -Tamil Nadu.
  • Ramamurthy has also worked as the president of the Nationalist Congress Party – Tamil Nadu.

 

17. திண்டிவனம் ராமமூர்த்தி காலமானார்

  • தமிழ்நாடு காங்கிரஸ் கட்சியின் முன்னாள் தலைவர் திண்டிவனம் ராமமூர்த்தி (87) உடல்நலக்குறைவால் காலமானார்.
  • அவர் 1984 முதல் 1990 வரை மாநிலங்களவை உறுப்பினராகவும் 1981 முதல் 1984 வரை சட்டமன்ற எதிர்க்கட்சித் தலைவராகவும் இருந்தார்.
  • சரத் பவாரின் தமிழக தேசியவாத காங்கிரஸின் தலைவராகவும் இவர் இருந்துள்ளார்.
  • தமிழ்நாடு தேசியவாத காங்கிரஸ் கட்சியின் தலைவராகவும் ராமமூர்த்தி இருந்தார்.
