• Sylendra Babu is appointed as the new Head Director General of Police (DGP) of Law and Order in Tamil Nadu. He is a 1987-batch IPS, he will replace K. Tripathy.
• He was born in Kuzhithurai village in Kanniyakumari district and started as an assistant superintendent of police in Gobichettipalayam in 1989.

• Peter Alphonse has been appointed as the chairperson of the Tamil Nadu Minorities Commission. He has served as a member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly and a Member of Rajya Sabha.

Tamil Nadu Minorities Commission

• The Tamil Nadu State Minorities Commission was constituted in 1989 to protect the interests of religious and linguistic minorities and to protect their rights.
• The Commission was given statutory status in 2010. The Commission is working on the educational, social and economic development of minorities in Tamil Nadu.

3. India presents ‘Of Men and Moments’ book of Jayakanthan to SCO

• Indian Ambassador to China Vikram Misri presented ten translated books of modern Indian literature to Shangai Cooperation Organisation Secretary General Vladimir Norov at the SCO secretariat in Beijing.
• The books were translated into Russian and Chinese, which are the official languages of the SCO by the Sahitya Akademi.

Shangai Cooperation Organisation (SCO)

• The SCO is an eight-member economic and security group consisting of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India and Pakistan.

• President Ram Nath Kovind lays the virtual foundation stone for Babasaheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Cultural Centre at Lucknow.
• On 29 June 1928, Ambedkar launched his first newspaper titled ‘Samta’. The same day was selected for laying the foundation stone to mark the journey for equality of Ambedkar.

• அம்பேத்கர் 29 ஜூன் 1928 அன்று ‘சம்தா‘ என்ற தலைப்பில் தனது முதல் செய்தித்தாளைத் தொடங்கினார்.   அம்பேத்கரின் சமத்துவத்திற்கான பயணத்தைக் குறிக்கும் வகையில் அடிக்கல் நாட்டுவதற்காக அதே நாள் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டது.

5. China becomes malaria-free after 70 years

• China becomes malaria-free after 70 years. World Health Organization recognises countries that have achieved at least three consecutive years of zero indigenous cases as malaria-free.
• China became the 40^th country certified malaria-free by the WHO.
• El Salvador (2021), Algeria and Argentina (2019), and Paraguay and Uzbekistan (2018) were recognised as malaria-free recently.
• China is the fourth country Western Pacific region to be awarded a malaria-free certification after Australia (1981), Singapore (1982) and Brunei (1987).
• WHO releases World Malaria Report.

Malaria

• Malaria is caused by the Plasmodium parasite and female Anopheles mosquitoes act as a vector.
• 5-year National Strategic Plan for Malaria Elimination was started in 2017 that focused on Malaria elimination by 2022.
• MERA-India (Malaria Elimination Research Alliance-India) was launched by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), which is a conglomeration of partners working on the control of malaria.

6. Discus thrower Seema Punia Antil qualifies for Tokyo Games 2020

• Seema Punia qualified for Tokyo Games 2020. She broke the two-decade-old record with 63.72 m throw at the 60^th National Inter-State Athletics Championships at the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports.
• She has won a bronze medal in Asian Games 2018.

6. வட்டு எறிதல் வீராங்கனை சீமா புனியா டோக்கியோ ஒலிம்பிக் போட்டி 2020க்கு தகுதி பெற்றுள்ளார்

• சீமா புனியா டோக்கியோ ஒலிம்பிக் போட்டி 2020 க்கு தகுதி பெற்றார். நேதாஜி சுபாஷ் தேசிய விளையாட்டு மைதானத்தில் நடைபெற்ற 60வது மாநிலங்களுக்கிடையேயான தேசிய தடகள சாம்பியன்ஷிப் போட்டிகளில்72 மீ. தூரத்திற்கு வட்டு எறிந்து முந்தைய சாதனைகளை முறியடித்துள்ளார்.
• இவர் 2018 ஆம் ஆண்டு ஆசிய விளையாட்டுப் போட்டிகளில் வெண்கலப் பதக்கம் வென்றுள்ளார்.

7. Srihari Natraj qualifies for Tokyo Olympics 2020

• Srihari Natraj became the second swimmer to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics 2020. This is the first time two Indian swimmers will take part in Olympic Games after a direct qualification.
• Sajan Prakash was the first swimmer to qualify for Tokyo Games 2020.

7. டோக்கியோ ஒலிம்பிக் போட்டி 2020க்கு ஸ்ரீஹரி நடராஜ் தகுதி பெற்றுள்ளார்

• டோக்கியோ ஒலிம்பிக் போட்டி 2020க்கு தகுதி பெற்ற இரண்டாவது நீச்சல் வீரர் என்ற பெருமையை ஸ்ரீஹரி நடராஜ் பெற்றார். இரண்டு இந்திய நீச்சல் வீரர்கள் ஒலிம்பிக் போட்டிகளில் நேரடியாக தகுதி பெற்று பங்கேற்பது இதுவே முதல் முறையாகும்.

8. Aditi Ashok becomes the first female Indian golfer to qualify for Tokyo Olympics 2020

• The 23 year old Aditi Ashok became the first female Indian golfer to qualify for Tokyo Olympics 2020. She ranked 45^th in the list announced by the International Golf Federation.

• 23 வயதான அதிதி அசோக் டோக்கியோ ஒலிம்பிக் போட்டி 2020க்கு தகுதி பெற்ற முதல் இந்திய பெண் கோல்ஃப் வீரர் ஆனார். சர்வதேச கோல்ஃப் கூட்டமைப்பு தரவரிசையில் அவர் 45வது இடத்தைப் பிடித்துள்ளார்.

• Indian Gymnast Pranati Nayak qualifies for Tokyo Olympics 2020. She was an Asian Championships bronze medallist.

• டோக்கியோ ஒலிம்பிக் போட்டி 2020க்கு இந்திய ஜிம்னாஸ்ட் வீராங்கனை பிரனதி நாயக் தகுதி பெற்றுள்ளார். அவர் ஆசிய சாம்பியன்ஷிப் போட்டியில் வெண்கலப் பதக்கம் வென்றார்.

10. International Day of Asteroids – 30 June

• International Day of Asteroids is observed on 30 June annually to raise public awareness about the asteroid impact hazard. This day marks the largest recorded asteroid impact on Earth that took place near the Tunguska River in Siberia on 30 June 1908.
• The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution declaring 30 June as the International Asteroid Day In 2016.
• Asteroids are small rocky bodies orbiting the Sun in the asteroid belt between the Mars and Jupiter. They could be the source of the formation of our Solar System.

10. சர்வதேச விண்கற்கள் தினம் – 30 ஜூன்

• விண்கற்கள் தாக்குதலின் ஆபத்து குறித்து பொது மக்களிடையே விழிப்புணர்வை ஏற்படுத்துவதற்காக சர்வதேச விண்கற்கள் தினம் ஆண்டுதோறும் 30 ஜூன் அன்று அனுசரிக்கப்படுகிறது. இந்த நாள் 30 ஜூன் 1908 அன்று சைபீரியாவில் துங்குஸ்கா ஆற்றின் அருகே நடந்த பூமியில் பதிவு செய்யப்பட்ட மிகப்பெரிய விண்கல் தாக்குதலைக் குறிக்கிறது.

12. Dadabhai Naoroji’s death anniversary – 30 June

• Dadabhai Naoroji’s death anniversary is observed on 30 June 2021 marks his 104^th Death Anniversary. He was born on 4 September 1825 in Bombay.
• Dadabhai Naoroji is popularly known as the ‘Grand Old Man of India’. He became the first Indian to be appointed as a fulltime professor at Elphinstone College in Bombay. He was one of the founding members of the Indian National Congress. He wrote the book ‘Poverty and Un-British Rule’ in India.
• He became the first Indian to be elected to the British Parliament. He was also the first Asian British MP. He died on 30 June 1917.

12. தாதாபாய் நௌரோஜியின் நினைவு நாள் – 30 ஜூன்

• தாதாபாய் நௌரோஜியின் நினைவு நாள் ஆண்டுதோறும் 30 ஜூன் அன்று அனுசரிக்கப்படுகிறது. 2021ஆம் ஆண்டு அவரது 104வது நினைவு நாள் ஆகும். இவர் 4 செப்டம்பர் 1825 அன்று பம்பாயில் பிறந்தார்.
• தாதாபாய் நௌரோஜி ‘இந்தியாவின் முதுபெரும் மனிதர்‘ என்று பிரபலமாக அறியப்படுகிறார். பம்பாயில் உள்ள எல்பின்ஸ்டன் கல்லூரியில் முழு நேர பேராசிரியராக நியமிக்கப்பட்ட முதல் இந்தியர் என்ற பெருமையை அவர் பெற்றார். அவர் இந்திய தேசிய காங்கிரசின் நிறுவன உறுப்பினர்களில் ஒருவராக இருந்தார். அவர் இந்தியாவில் ‘வறுமை மற்றும் பிரிட்டிஷ் அல்லாத ஆட்சி‘ (‘Poverty and Un-British Rule’) என்ற புத்தகத்தை எழுதினார்.
• பிரிட்டிஷ் நாடாளுமன்றத்தில் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்ட முதல் இந்தியர் என்ற பெருமையை அவர் பெற்றார். அவர் முதல் ஆசிய பிரிட்டிஷ் நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர் ஆவார். அவர் 30 ஜூன் 1917 அன்று இறந்தார்.
