2. Tamil Father C. Pa. Adhithanar Memorial Day – 24 May

• The 40^th death anniversary of Tamil father C. Pa. Adhithanar is observed on 24 May 2021. When he was the Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, he passed a resolution to speak two languages in the Legislative Assembly.
• He started the ‘Nam Tamilar’ C. Pa. Aditanar, who gave the slogan “Udal Mannukku, uyir Tamiluku” died on 24 May 1981.

• தமிழர் தந்தை சி.பா.ஆதித்தனார் 40வது நினைவு தினம் 24 மே 2021 அன்று அனுசரிக்கப்படுகிறது. அவர் தமிழக சட்டசபை சபநாயகராக இருந்த போது, சட்ட சபையில் இரு மொழிகளில் பேசலாம் என்னும் தீர்மானத்தை நிறைவேற்றினார்.
• அவர் ‘நாம் தமிழர்’ இயக்கத்தைத் தொடங்கினார். ‘உடல் மண்ணுக்கு உயிர் தமிழுக்கு”என முழங்கிய சி.பா.ஆதித்தனார் 24 மே 1981இல் இயற்கை எய்தினார்.

3. Forest range officer of Ramanathapuram, S. Sathish, wins India Biodiversity Award 2021

• The forest range officer of Ramanathapuram, Sathish won the India Biodiversity Award 2021 under the ‘Sustainable use of Biological Resources’ category for his remarkable work in ‘Kaarankadu Community based Ecotourism’.
• M. Shaji fondly called as ‘Tuber Man of Kerala’ has been awarded the India Biodiversity Award 2021 in the individual category of ‘Conservation of domesticated species’.

• The India Biodiversity Awards is a joint initiative by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, National Biodiversity Authority and the United Nations Development Programme.
• The award, carrying 2 lakh cash prize and citation, was declared on 22 May 2021 during the International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) 2021.

• ‘கேரளாவின் கிழங்கு மனிதன்‘ என்று அழைக்கப்படும் என். எம். ஷாஜிக்கு ‘பழக்கப்பட்ட இனங்களைப் பாதுகாத்தல்‘ என்ற தனிப்பட்ட பிரிவில் இந்திய பல்லுயிரியல் விருது 2021 வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

• Multisystem inflammatory syndrome affects the children recovered from COVID-19. This disease causes inflammation in heart, kidney, and liver of children four to six weeks after COVID-19 recovery. Since children are affected more in the second COVID-19 wave, this poses a danger to children.

• கோவிட்-1 தொற்று பாதிப்பில் இருந்து மீண்ட சிறுவர்களை பல்லுறுப்பு வீக்க நோய் (Multisystem inflammatory syndrome) பாதித்து வருகிறது. கோவிட்-19 தொற்று பாதிப்பில் இருந்து சிறுவர்கள் மீண்ட 4 முதல் 6 வாரங்களுக்குப் பிறகு இதயம், கல்லீரல், சிறுநீரகம் உள்ளிட்ட உறுப்புகளில் வீக்கம் ஏற்படும். கோவிட்-19 தொற்றின் 2-ஆவது அலையில் சிறுவர்கள் அதிக அளவில் பாதிக்கப்பட்டு வரும் இந்நிலை சிறுவர்களுக்கு பெரும் ஆபத்தை விளைவிக்கும்.

5. UK unveils plan for ‘Digital border’

• UK unveiled its plan for ‘Fully Digital border’. Full digital border will count the people in and out the country, so that the potential threats can be identified at the border.
• This digital border also includes the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA). ETA will be mandatory for people entering UK without visa or immigration. They should apply for ETA and only after proper authorisation, they will be nallowed inside UK. It is similar to the US ETA.

6. Volcano Nyiragongo erupts in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo

• Mount Nyiragongo of Democratic Republic of Congo erupted recently. The volcano last erupted in 2002 which killed 250 people. Mount Nyiragongo is a active stratovolcano located inside Virunga national park, which is listed as the World Heritage site in danger since 1994.

• Chistoph Phols’ documentary ‘Ever Slow Green’ tells the story of Auroville’s unique afforestation project that took root on an eroded desert plateau in Villupuram district. It has been officially selected for screening at the prestigious ChangeNow summit in Paris.
• It will be screened along with four specially selected films, including David Attenborough’s Breaking Boundaries: The Science of Our Planet at the ChangeNow film festival in the summit from May 27 to 29.

8. FIH honours Odisha IAS officer V K Pandian with FIH Presidents’ Award

• The International Hockey Federation (FIH) recognised V K Pandian, private secretary to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, with the FIH Presidents’ Award for his contribution towards development and promotion of hockey in Odisha. The recognition was accorded during the 47^thCongress of this body held virtually. Odisha’s Rourkela has been selected as the second venue for the men’s hockey world cup scheduled in 2023 along with Bhubaneswar.
