1. Joint Anti-terror exercise of SCO “Pabbi-Antiterror-2021” to be held this year

• The decision to hold the joint anti-terror exercise “Pabbi-Antiterror-2021” was announced during the 36th meeting of the Council of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS) held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS)

• RATS, headquartered in Tashkent, is a permanent organ of the SCO which serves to promote the cooperation of member states against terrorism, separatism, and extremism.

Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO)

• The SCO is an economic and security bloc. India and Pakistan were admitted as full members in 2017.
• Its founding members included China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

பிராந்திய பயங்கரவாத எதிர்ப்பு அமைப்பு (RATS)

• தாஷ்கன்ட்டை தலைமையிடமாகக் கொண்ட RATS, SCOவின் நிரந்தர உறுப்பு ஆகும். இது பயங்கரவாதம், பிரிவினைவாதம் மற்றும் தீவிரவாதத்திற்கு எதிராக உறுப்பு நாடுகளின் ஒத்துழைப்பை மேம்படுத்துகிறது.

2. Large asteroid of 2021 safely flew past the Earth

• The asteroid 2001 FO32 passed the Earth this year, swinging closest, which is roughly 25 times the distance of the Earth from the Moon but still close enough for 2001 FO32 to be classified as a “potentially hazardous asteroid.”
• The asteroid is estimated to be about 900 metres (3,000 feet) in diameter and was discovered 20 years ago.

• 2020 QG asteroid is the closest asteroid flyby (2,950 km) ever recorded that did not end with the space rock’s demise.

2. 2021ஆம் ஆண்டின் மிகப்பெரிய விண்கல் பாதுகாப்பாக பூமியை கடந்தது

3. Arunachal Pradesh launched its first formal indigenous language and knowledge system school ‘Nyubu Nyvgam Yerko’

• Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu inaugurated the state’s first formal indigenous language and knowledge system school at Rang village in East Kameng district.
• The first-of-its-kind school called ‘Nyubu Nyvgam Yerko’ will help in promoting and preserving indigenous traditions, culture, and language.

4. Bihar became the first state to have its own ethanol policy for biofuel

• Bihar became the first state to have its own ethanol policy for biofuel.
• The Ethanol Production Promotion Policy was approved by the Bihar Cabinet that allows investors to directly make ethanol from maize, molasses, broken rice, and rotten grains.
• The new policy allows ethanol production from all feedstocks permitted under the National Policy on Biofuels, 2018, and subsequently by the National Biofuel Coordination Committee.

5. Military Direct’s Military Strength Index stated that India has the world’s fourth strongest military

• A defence website Military Direct has stated that China has the strongest military in the world, scoring 82 out of 100 points in the index.

• The study said the “Ultimate Military Strength Index” was calculated after taking into consideration various factors, including budgets, the number of inactive and active military personnel, total air, sea, land, and nuclear resources, average salaries, and weight of the equipments.

1. USA – $732 billion per year
2. China – $261 billion per year
3. India – $71 billion per year

• The study also noted that “China would win by sea, USA by air and Russia by land”.

6. 22 March is celebrated as the World Water Day

• March 22 was declared as the World Water Day and is celebrated around the world since 1993 to highlight the importance of water and raise awareness about the water crisis that the world faces.
• The resolution to observe World Water Day was first adopted by the UN General Assembly on 22 December 1992 held in Rio de Janeiro.
• The focus of the day is to “support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: Clean water and sanitation for all by 2030.”
• The theme of World Water Day 2021 is “Valuing Water” and has been chosen to highlight the value of water in our daily lives.

• The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 21 March as the International Day of Forests in 2012.
• The day is celebrated by the United Nations Forum on Forests and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in collaboration with governments, the Collaborative Partnership on Forests and other relevant organisations in the field.
• Theme of 2021: ‘Forest restoration: a path to recovery and well-being’
• The theme emphasises on how restoration and sustainable management of forests can help address climate change and the biodiversity crisis.

8. 21 March is observed as the World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD)

• The World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) is observed on 21 March every year to raise awareness about Down Syndrome.
• ISSF World Cup took place in Delhi.
• 21 March was chosen to observe the day as it signifies the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome, which causes Down Syndrome.
• Usually, humans have two copies of this chromosome, but those with Down Syndrome have three, and so the syndrome is also called ‘Trisomy 21’.
• The day was first observed in 2006 by the Down Syndrome International (DSI) organisation, with the Down Syndrome Association Singapore launching and hosting the World Down Syndrome Day website till 2010.
• The day was then first officially observed by the United Nations in 2012.

• The Men’s team, comprising Saurabh Chaudhary, Shahzar Rizvi and Abhishek Verma and the Indian Women’s trio of Manu Bhaker, Yashaswini Singh Deswal and Shri Nivetha Paramanantham secured gold for India in the ISSF world cup.

10. India’s Ganemat Sekhon won the first-ever medal for India in Women’s skeet

• Chandigarh’s Ganemat Sekhon won the maiden senior medal with bronze in the Women’s skeet event in the ISSF (International Shooting Sport Federation) World Cup.
• This is India’s first-ever medal in the history of women’s skeet.
• ISSF World Cup took place in Delhi.

11. India’s Singhraj won gold in the Para Shooting World Cup 2021 @AIR

• Indian para-athlete Singhraj won gold medal in the 2021 Para Shooting World Cup at Al Ain in the UAE.
• He defeated Uzbekistan’s Server Ibragimov to get the top place in the P1 – Men’s 10m Air Pistol SH1 final.

11. பாரா துப்பாக்கி சுடுதல் உலக கோப்பை 2021ல் இந்தியாவின் சிங்ராஜ் தங்கம் வென்றார்

• ஐக்கிய அரபு அமீரகம் அல் ஐனில் நடைபெற்ற 2021 பாரா துப்பாக்கி சுடும் உலகக் கோப்பை போட்டியில் இந்திய பாரா தடகள வீரர் சிங்ராஜ் தங்கப் பதக்கம் வென்றார்.
