1. DRDO develops critical crystal blade technology for aero engines

• The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed single crystal blades that are used in helicopter engines and it has supplied 60 of them to the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the company’s indigenous helicopter development program.
• Single crystal blades having complex shape and geometry are manufactured out of nickel-based superalloys that are capable of withstanding high temperatures.

2. India’s Organic food products exports rises by more than 50% in 2020-21

• According to Union Commerce and Industry Ministry, India’s Organic food products exports rose by more than 50% in the year 2020-21 in terms of value.
• In terms of quantity, the exports grew by 39 per cent to 8,88,000 metric tonne compared to 2019-20.
• Oil cake meal led the exports followed by oil seeds, cereals and millets, tea, medicinal plant products and dry fruits.
• India’s organic products have been exported to 58 countries including USA, European Union, Canada.

2. இந்தியாவின் இயற்கை உணவுப் பொருட்களின் ஏற்றுமதி 2020-21 ஆம் ஆண்டில் 50%க்கும் அதிகமாக உயர்ந்துள்ளது

• 2020-21ஆம் ஆண்டில் இந்தியாவின் இயற்கை உணவுப் பொருட்களின் ஏற்றுமதி மதிப்பின் அடிப்படையில் 50 சதவீதத்திற்கும் மேலாக உயர்ந்துள்ளது என வர்த்தக மற்றும் தொழில்துறை அமைச்சகம் தெரிவித்துள்ளது.
• 2019-20 உடன் ஒப்பிடும்போது இயற்கை உணவுப் பொருட்களின் ஏற்றுமதி 39 சதவீதம் அதிகரித்து 8,88,000 மெட்ரிக் டன்னாக அதிகரித்துள்ளது.

3. Earthquake of magnitude 6.4 strikes Sonitpur of Assam

• National Centre of Seismology informed that an earthquake of magnitude 6.4 striked Sonitpur of Assam.
• Assam falls under Zone V of earthquake intensity (IX and above)
• Earthquake can be measured using two scales. They are:

1. Ritcher Scale – Measures the energy of the earthquake (0 – No upper limit)
2. Mercalli Scale – Measures the damage caused by the earthquake (1 – 12)

India is divided into four seismic zones according to the intensity of the earthquake, They are:

1. Zone II – VI and less intensity
2. Zone III – VII
3. Zone IV – VIII
4. Zone V – IX and above

• National Centre of Seismology is located at Noida and works under the Union Ministry of Earth Sciences.

4. Asian Development Bank provided $1.5-billion fiscal support to India for pandemic response

• Asian Development Bank (ADB) had provided fiscal support of $1.5 billion to India in support of the pandemic. This fiscal support formed part of the $16.1 billion that ADB had specifically set aside for pandemic response for India in 2020.
• In 2020, the ADB had committed a record $31.6 billion to help Asia and the Pacific swiftly tackle the coronavirus disease outbreak.
• The $31.6-billion ADB committed from its own resources in 2020 was 32 per cent higher than 2019’s $24 billion.

5. Krithi Karanth becomes first Indian woman ‘Wild Innovator’

• Krithi K Karanth is the Chief Conservation Scientist at Centre for Wildlife Studies (CWS), Bengaluru. She has been chosen as the first Indian and Asian woman for the ‘Wild Innovator Award’ 2021.
• This award is given by the ‘Wild Elements Foundation’, which aims to identify solutions to global sustainability and conservation. ‘Power of Three’, the interconnectedness of animal kind, humankind, and plant kind for the future planetary wellness, is the approach of the foundation.

5. கிரிதி கரந்த் ‘வன புத்தாக்க விஞ்ஞானி‘ விருது பெற்ற முதல் இந்திய பெண் ஆனார்

• டாக்டர். கிருதி கே கரந்த் பெங்களூரு வனவிலங்கு ஆய்வுகள் மையத்தின் தலைமை பாதுகாப்பு விஞ்ஞானி ஆவார். 2021ஆம் ஆண்டு ‘வன புத்தாக்க விஞ்ஞானி‘ விருதுக்காக தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ள முதல் இந்திய மற்றும் ஆசிய பெண்ணானார்.

6. SIPRI Report ranks India as the third-largest military spender

• The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) has ranked countries based on their military spending. It has found that the military spending of the top countries increased compared to 2019.
• The global military expenditure increased to $1981 billion last year, which is an increase of 2.6 per cent in real terms from 2019, eventhough the global GDP shrank by 4.4 per cent (October 2020 projection by the International Monetary Fund), which was mainly due to the economic impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The top three largest military spender countries of 2020 are:

SIPRI

• The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) is an independent international institute based on Sweden. It was established in 1966. It is dedicated to research into conflict, armaments, arms control and disarmament. It was established by the Swedish Parliament and receives a substantial part of its funding as an annual grant from the Swedish Government.

6. SIPRI அறிக்கை இராணுவத்திற்காக அதிகம் செலவிடுவதில் மூன்றாவது நாடாக இந்தியாவை வரிசைப்படுத்தியுள்ளது

• World Day for Safety and Health at Work is observed on 28 April every year.
• It focuses on the importance of a secured, safe workplace and prevention of accidents and diseases at workplaces.
• The World Day for Safety and Health at Work was first observed in the year 2003 by the International Labour Organisation (ILO).

10. Thyagaraya’s Birthday – 27 April

• Thyagaraya was born on 27 April 1852 at Korukupettai, Chennai. On 20 November 1916, Natesanar, Sir Piti Thyagaraya and T.M. Nair formed the South Indian Welfare Society (South Indian Liberal Federation).
• The three newspapers started and published by this organisation were:

1. Dravidian – Tamil

2. Justice – English

3. Andhra Prakasika – Telugu

• When he died in 1925, a newly created Thiyagaraya Nagar (T.Nagar) in Chennai was named after him. There is also a government function hall in T Nagar called Sir Pitti Thiyagaraya Stadium.

10. தியாகராயர் பிறந்தநாள் – 27 ஏப்ரல்

• தியாகராயர் 27 ஏப்ரல் 1852இல் சென்னையிலுள்ள கொருக்குப்பேட்டையில் பிறந்தார். 20 நவம்பர் 1916இல் நடேசனார், சர் பிட்டி தியாகராயர், டி.எம். நாயர் ஆகிய தலைவர்கள் தென்னிந்திய நல உரிமைச் சங்கத்தை (South Indian Liberal Federation) உருவாக்கினர்.
