Afghan President Ghani arrives in India on a day-long visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomes Mohammad Ashraf Ghani President of Afghanistan along with President Pranab Mukherjee during the Ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.

Both the leaders reviewed their inclusive bilateral strategic partnership and consulted the efforts to combat the threat of terrorism, in order to stabilize peace and security in Afghanistan.

The meeting is also focused on India’s development works in Afghanistan and US policy for the region. India is actively engaging in Afghan’s war against Taliban. Mr. Ghani held a delegation – level talks with PM Modi over the lunch.

Earlier, Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani met his Indian counterpart President Ram Nath Kovind and Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in the National Capital.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted that External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj called on Ghani and both the leaders discussed regional and bilateral issues. The Trump administration has shown enthusiasm to involve India with a much greater role for the peace process in Afghanistan.
