Yoga education, self-defence training to be made compulsory in UP govt schools:

 
The chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath directed that ‘Rani Laxmibai Aatmaraskha Kaaryakram’ (self defence programme) and ‘Yog Shiksha Kaaryakram’ (Yoga education programme) would be compulsory in government schools.

Cabinet approves setting up rail regulator:

The Union government approved setting up Rail Development Authority (RDA), an independent regulator to recommend passenger and freight fares and set service level benchmarks. The RDA will be set up as an independent regulatory body in New Delhi.

India’s is the world’s 7th largest tourism economy in terms of GDP, says WTTC:

India’s travel and tourism sector ranks 7th in the world in terms of its total contribution to the country’s GDP, according to a new report of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC). 

According to data, the travel and tourism sector generated Rs 14.1 trillion (USD208.9 billion) in 2016, which is world’s 7th largest in terms of absolute size; the sum is equivalent to 9.6% of India’s GDP.


DRDO’s anti-tank weapon test successful:

 
DRDO successfully test-fired an anti-tank weapon having a strike range of 5 km from a next generation tank at a defence test facility off Odisha coast. The ammunition, fired from main battle tank “Arjun MK-II” at Chandipur hit the target as expected. The aim and objective of the test was to analyze whether the weapon had that required effect on the target.

Haryana celebrates Mahavir Jayanthi as ‘Ahimsa Diwas’

 
Haryana government has decided to observe Mahavir Jayanti as ‘Ahimsa Diwas’ every year on April 9th every year. On this day the state will impose a complete ban on the sale of meat, fish, egg and liquor and also slaughterhouses to remain closed.

PFC contributes Rs.56.43 Cr to Swachh Bharat Kosh

Rajeev Sharma, CMD of PFC, presented a token of remittance of Rs.56.43 crore towards ‘Swachh Bharat Kosh’ to Ashok Lavas, Finance Secretary to Ministry of Finance and the Chairperson of the Swachh Bharat Kosh. The amount also includes contributions by PFC’s subsidiaries.

TPREL commissions 100MW wind farm in A.P.

 
TATA Power Renewable Energy, of TATA Power, the largest renewable energy company has  commissioned a 100 MW wind farm at Nimbagallu in Andhra Pradesh. The company had already commissioned 36 MW in December 2016 and now to commission of the remaining 64MW of plant capacity. With this commissioning TPREL would continue to fortify its position of the being the largest renewable energy company in the country.

U.K & India unveils ‘Green Growth Equity Fund’:

India and U.K announced a joint Green Growth Equity Fund in which they jointly committed to invest up to 120 million each. The main purpose is to help India enhance inclusive growth by boosting investment into green infrastructure on commercial terms.

The success of the fund will impact and expects to rise about 500 million in future. The bilateral meet was attended by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and the U.K’s Chancellor of the Excheequer Phillip Hammond.


China’s high speed railway drives silk-road plan:

A 174-km long underground high-speed rail link will connect China’s Beijing with Lanzhou was set to be completed by 2022. Feeder lines from the high speed station will carry tourists and sport enthusiasts. This is said to be the first underground high-speed railway station in China. This is china’s giant connectivity project, mostly along the ancient Silk-Road which in the past connected Asia with Europe.

Aditya Birla Group gets RBI licence to start payments bank:

 
The Aditya Birla Group said it has received licence from the Reserve Bank of India to start payments bank. Headed by Kumar Mangalam Birla, the group’s outfit Aditya Birla Nuvo had set up a 51:49 joint venture of Aditya Birla Idea Payments Bank Ltd with telecom major Idea Cellular to launch payments bank services in the country.

Quatrro’s Raman Roy is new Nasscom chief, Rishad Premji appointed vice chairman:

 
The National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) appointed Raman Roy, managing director of Quatrro Global Services, as its chairman for 2017-2018. Rishad Premji, chief strategy officer, Wipro Limited has been appointed Vice Chairman. Roy takes over from CP Gurnani, CEO of Tech Mahindra.

Indian Claims Silver in World Youth Weightlifting Championship:

 
Indian weightlifter Jeremy Lalrinnunga hoisted a total of 240kg and bagged the men’s 56kg silver medal in World Youth Weightlifting Championship held in Bangkok.

Indian boxers enters medal round:

India was assured with two medals at the Thailand International Boxing Tournament after K.Shyam Kumar (49kg) and Rohit Tokas (64kg) advanced to the semifinals. Shyam won Thailand’s Samak Saehan and Rohit on the other hand defeated Kazakhastan’s Kuatov Kuan.


Wisden names Kohli ‘Leading Cricketer’:

Indian captain Virat Kohli was named ‘Wisden’s Leading Cricketer’ in the world for 2016. Kohli amassed 1215 test runs at an average of 75.93 runs last year. Owing to his phenomenal victory, he won ‘Polly Umrigar award’ presented to the International Cricketer of the Year at the BCCI Annual Awards.


IPL-10 ceremony ‘short and swift’ – Sunrisers blazes away as openers:

A short and swift opening act recorded of Indian Premiere League at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad. The legendary cricketers V.V.S. Laxman, Sourav Ganguly, Virendra Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar presided over the opening ceremony. Defending champion Sunrisers Hyderabad began on a rousing note, with 35-run win over Royal Challengers Bangalore. Sunrisers Hyderabad scored 207 runs.

Ho. Srinivasaiah passes away:

 
Gandhian Ho. Srinivasaiah passed away in Bengaluru. He was 93. He headed the Karnataka Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi, an organisation he was associated with for nearly four decades.
