Fadnavis inaugurates automatic weather station in Vidarbha:

    Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the State’s first automatic weather station at Dongargaon in Vidarbha region. It would help farmers plan and manage the sowing process better.

Around 2,065 such weather stations will come across Maharashtra on public private partnership (PPP) model this year, and 1,000 of these will be set up by June, said by him.


Shri Bandaru Dattatreya Launches “One IP- Two Dispensaries” and “Aadhaar Based Online Claim Submission Schemes” on International Labour Day:

    Minister of State (I/C) for Labour and Employment, Shri Bandaru Dattatreya launched two schemes “One IP – Two Dispensaries” and “Aadhaar based Online Claim Submission” on the occasion of International Labour Day. Under One IP – Two Dispensaries scheme ESIC has given an option to an Insured Person (IP) to choose two dispensaries, one for self and another for family through an employer.

    Under Aadhaar based Online Claim Submission scheme all EPF Members who have activated their UAN and seeded their KYC (Aadhaar) with EPFO will be able to apply for PF final settlement, Pension withdrawal benefit and PF part withdrawal from their UAN Interface directly.


Govt flags off ‘Vidya-Veerta Abhiyan’ to promote nationalism among youth:

Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar launched the Vidya – Veerta Abhiyan in New Delhi to encourage the students from Universities and educational institutions across the country to display portraits of Param Veer Chakra-decorated soldiers. The aim of this Abhiyan is to instill a sense of patriotism and nationalism among students.

Dubai gets its own typographic font:

    Dubai has teamed up with Microsoft to become the world’s first city to have a font named after the gleaming metropolis.

Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum had launched the ‘Dubai Font’ in line with the UAE’s vision of becoming a regional and global leader in innovation.

Mr. Anthony Lianzuala takes over as the New Controller General of Accounts (CGA): 

Mr. Anthony Lianzuala took over as the New Controller General of Accounts (CGA) in New Delhi. He will be the First person from the North-Eastern Region to hold this position.

Earlier, the Government of India had appointed Mr. Anthony Lianzuala, a 1982-batch Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS) Officer, as the new Controller General of Accounts (CGA), Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance with effect from May 1, 2017.

 


Shobana Kamineni assumes charge as CII President:

    Shobana Kamineni, Executive Vice-Chairperson of Apollo Hospitals Enterprise, has assumed office as the president of industry body CII.

She has taken over from Naushad Forbes, Co-Chairman, Forbes Marshall Limited. Kamineni is also vice-chairperson of the KEI Group, a diversified logistics, leisure & infrastructure company.

Chandrababu Naidu bags US-India Business Council award:

    Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has been selected for the ‘Transformative Chief Minister Award’ in recognition for his role in advancing the US-India partnership at the state level.

The award by the US-India Business Council would be presented to Naidu during the USIBC West Coast Summit in the Silicon Valley on May 8.

 


Sanjay Pratihar bags prestigious INSA medal:

     Sanjay Pratihar, a scientist at Tezpur University, has been chosen for the prestigious Indian National Science Academy (INSA) medal for the Young Scientist Award for the year 2017.

Mr. Pratihar, of the Department of Chemical Sciences, has been awarded for his excellent contribution to multi-metal complexes. The award will be given to him during INSA’s anniversary meeting in December.

Joshna Chinappa wins historic Asian squash title, Saurav Ghosal falters:

    Joshna Chinappa scripted history by becoming the first Indian to clinch the Asian Squash title with a thrilling win over compatriot Dipika Pallikal Karthik in the women’s final in Chennai.

In the men’s final, however, Saurav Ghosal went down fighting against No.1 seed Max Lee to finish second best.


Aizawl FC crowned I-League champions despite 10-man Mohun Bagan’s win:

In one of the biggest achievements in Indian football history, unheralded Aizawl FC lifted the I-League crown after they held Shillong Lajong 1-1 in a tense match.
Aizawl ended the league on 37 points while Mohun Bagan finished second on 36. They have won the I-League title in their second season, becoming the first club from the Northeast to bag the title.

OBITUARY

Shanto Mitra passes away:

    East Bengal great Shanto Mitra, died at the age of 75, was suffering from cancer. He played for India in the Merdeka Cup in 1968 and was an assistant coach in the country’s Nehru Cup campaign in 1984. Mitra was the manager of the Indian side in the Los Angeles Olympic qualifiers.

 


Former Madhya Pradesh Minister passes away:

Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh Minister Pratap Singh Baghel died of heart failure at a hospital in Jobat area. He was 70. Pratap Singh Baghel had served as Minister in M.P. twice.
