NATIONAL

  • The Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India will organize a day-long Seminar on Technology Partnerships for Steering POSHAN Abhiyaan called ‘TECH-THON’ for POSHAN Abhiyaan.

  • The book Ahimsa is about a woman joining India’s freedom movement will be released in August. It is authored by Supriya Kelkar.

  • A vital drug Oxytocin and its formulations, used to stop bleeding during childbirth, will not be freely available for use by doctors from July 1.

  • Andhra Pradesh has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Singapore to accelerate the construction work of its new capital, Amaravati.The MoU was signed between AP Real Estate Regulatory Authority and Building (APRERA) and Construction Authority of Singapore.

  • The government has proposed to set up 3,000 Van Dhan Kendras involving 30,000 self-help groups across the country under a scheme of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs for providing skill up-gradation and capacity building training for value addition of forest produce.

  • The Maharashtra government has announced a new scheme called ‘Kanya Van Samruddhi Yojana’, wherein farmers families where girl children are born, will be given saplings for plantation. The scheme is aimed at empowering women and promoting tree plantation.

  • Madhya Pradesh will be awarded for reducing maternal mortality under Prime Minister’s Safe Motherhood Campaign.

  • As part of the country’s first inter-state translocation of tigers project, a female cub was shifted from Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve (BTR) in Madhya Pradesh to Satkosia Tiger Reserve (STR) in Odisha.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a two-day ‘Kabir Mahotsav’ at Maghar in Sant Kabir district of Uttar Pradesh. It is to mark the 500th death anniversary of Kabir Das.

  • The Actor, producer and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Priyanka Chopra will release her book Unfinished, next year 2019. It is published by Random Penguin House India.

  • The number of people with Hindi as their mother tongue has increased and their percentage is up from 41.03 to 43.63 in 2001, according to data on language released as part of Census 2011.Bengali has taken the second spot with 8.3 percent people listing Bengali as their mother tongue from 8.11 percent in the 2011 census. Third on the list is Marathi, which replaced Telugu.

  • The Punjab Cabinet has approved the death penalty for males held guilty of the rape of a girl younger than 12 years.

  • The Cabinet has approved setting up of 4 million tonne(MT) storage at Chandikhol in Odisha and 2.5 MT storage at Padur in Karnataka. It was announced by Finance Minister Piyush Goyal.

  • President Ram Nath Kovind has launched the Solar Charkha Mission covering artisans in 50 identified clusters and the Sampark portal. The portal is a digital platform to connect five lakh job seekers with recruiters.

  • The Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) has proposed a draft bill to cancel the University Grants Commission (UGC) and set up the Higher Education Commission of India (HECI). It is aimed to reform higher education in India.

  • The Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu has launched a mobile application “ReUnite” . It will trace the missing and abandoned children in India.


INTERNATIONAL

  • In a goodwill gesture, Seychelles has gifted a pair of giant Aldabra tortoise to India. The pair will be kept at Hyderabad Nehru Zoological Park.

  • The United Arab of Emirates (UAE) will host a two-day “World Tolerance Summit” in November.The theme of the summit is “Prospering From Pluralism: Embracing Diversity through Innovation and Collaboration”.

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a penalty of Rs 6 crore on Tamilnad Mercantile Bank (TMB) for failing to adhere to norms while issuing bonus shares to non-resident investors.

  • The global anti-terror financing firm, Financial Action Task Force (FATF) has decided to keep Pakistan on its ‘grey list’. The decision to place Pakistan on the global money-laundering watchdogs grey list was made during its plenary meeting in Paris.

  • Norway has least traffic accidents in the world, leaving other European countries much behind, newspaper Aftenposten reported.

  • Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani met Israel’s Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Uri Ariel on the second day of his visit to Israel.


BANKING AND ECONOMY

  • The Export-Import Bank of India (Exim Bank) has extended $10 million worth of line of credit (LOC) to Seychelles for healthcare and procurement of goods and projects.

  • The country’s leading port developer Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) is all set to acquire 97 per cent stake in Marine Infrastructure Developer Private Limited (MIDPL)- the developer and operator of Kattupalli Port near Chennai for Rs 1950 crore.

  • India will increase the money that it pays to the Global Environment Facility (GEF) for the next four years.India has decided to increase its commitments from $12 million to $15 million to the GEF’s new four-year investment cycle announced by GEF Council Aparna Subramani.

  • The HCL Technologies will be acquiring Wolfsburg-based H&D International Group for Euro 30 million. The acquisition of H&D for Euro 30 million (including earnouts) cash deal is part of HCL’s long-term growth plan in Germany.

  • The board of the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India has approved Life Insurance Corporation’s (LIC) proposal to increase its stake in troubled state-run lender IDBI Bank.

  • The Private sector lender RBL Bank has fully acquired Mumbai-based financial product distribution firm Swadhaar FinServe Pvt Ltd where it had 60.49 percent holding earlier.

  • Due to continuously surging food prices and leisure activities, Mumbai continues to be the most expensive city in India to live in for expatriates, ahead of global peers Washington and Melbourne.

  • The United States has designated North Korea as one of the worst human trafficking nations for the 16th consecutive year, citing its use of forced labour. It was announced by Yonhap news agency.
