  • United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) launched its flagship State of World Population Report 2021 with the title My Body is My Own. The report talks about bodily autonomy including, child marriage, female genital mutilation, contraceptive choices, unwanted sex, etc.
  • The report shows that in countries where data is available only 55 percent of women are fully empowered to make choices over healthcare, contraception and the ability to say yes or no to sex.
  • The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is a UN agency aimed at improving reproductive and maternal health worldwide.

  • ETMONEY has launched India’s first Aadhaar-based SIP (systematic investment plan) payments feature. With this, anyone can now start a SIP online and set up automatic payments using a simple Aadhaar-based OTP (one-time-password) verification.
  • The main objective is to make investments more seamless and accessible to the widest section of Indian society.

  • SBI General Insurance and Uttarbanga Kshetriya Gramin Bank signed a Corporate Agency Agreement to enable distribution of SBI General’s retail products through Uttarbanga Kshetriya Gramin Bank’s extensive network in the state of West Bengal.
  • Under this strategic tie-up agreement, SBI General Insurance will offer a comprehensive range of general insurance products.

CSC partnered with Tata Power to provide solar-powered micros grids in rural areas

  • The Common Services Center (CSC) partnered with Tata Power to set up solar-powered microgrids and water pumps in rural areas across the country. This partnership will increase energy access and provide an economic opportunity to the company by providing off-grid or microgrid power.
  • Tata Power proposes to set up 10,000 microgrids to support rural consumers and under the partnership, over 3.75 lakh CSCs, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) under the Union Ministry of Electronics and IT.

  • Former US Ambassador to India Richard Verma was appointed as General Counsel and Head of Global Public Policy of Mastercard. Verma served as US Ambassador to India from 2014 to 2017.
  • He is currently executive vice president for Global Public Policy and Regulatory Affairs, has been promoted to General Counsel and Head of Global Public Policy.

IDBI Bank appointed Deputy General Manager Jyothi Biju Nair as its new company secretary

  • IDBI Bank was appointed the company’s deputy general manager Jyothi Biju Nair as the new company secretary. He replaced Pawan Agrawal.

  • India captain Virat Kohli was named Wisden Almanack’s ODI player of the 2010s, while England all-rounder Ben Stokes was declared the ‘Cricketer of the Year’ for a second successive time.
  • Apart from Kohli, Wisden also named legendary Sachin Tendulkar as the ODI Cricketer of the 1990s.
  • India’s World Cup-winning former captain Kapil Dev too featured on the list when he was named as the ODI Cricketer for the 1980s.
  • Dom Sibley, Zak Crawley, Jason Holder, Mohammed Rizwan, and Darren Stevens were named Wisden Cricketers of the Year in the 2021 edition of Wisden Almanack.

Oscar-winning Italian film-maker Roberto Benigni to receive Venice Film Festival’s Lifetime Achievement award

  • Oscar-winning Italian director-actor Roberto Benigni of ‘Life is Beautiful’ fame has been honoured with the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement of the 78th Venice International Film Festival held in Italy.
  • The decision to honour Benigni, a two-time Oscar winner was made by the board of La Biennale di Venezia.

Birla Cellulose won the Innovative and Sustainable Supply Chain Award by UN Global Compact Network India

  • Birla Cellulose, part of the Aditya Birla Group and one of the largest global manmade cellulosic fibre (MMCF) producers had emerged as a winner in the first edition of the ‘National Innovative and Sustainable Supply Chain Awards’ by UN Global Compact Network India.
  • Birla Cellulose had achieved a path-breaking innovation in manufacturing viscose fibre ‘Liva Reviva’ using 20 percent pre-consumer cotton fabric waste following the principles of a circular economy. This innovation has the distinction of Recycled Claim Standard (RCS) and portrays Birla Cellulose’s commitment to developing NextGen solutions.

  • Famous Tamil film actor and Padma Sri awardee Vivek passed away in Chennai due to a massive heart attack. He was bestowed with the Padma Shri Award, India’s fourth-highest civilian award in the year 2009 by the union government.
  • The renowned comedian Vivek was popularly called ‘Chinna Kalaivanar’ for his social reformative dialogues in Tamil cinema.

Renowned Bangladeshi actor Kabori passes away at 70

  • Renowned Bangladeshi actor Sara Begum Kabori passed away in Dhaka due to Covid-19. Sara Begum Kabori was honoured with the National Film Award for her role in the film Sareng Bou in 1978. She got the lifetime achievement award in 2013.

Pakistan Skipper Babar Azam replaced Virat Kohli as World No-1 batsman in ICC Men’s ODI Rankings

  • In the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) rankings for ODI batsmen, Pakistan Captain Babar Azam had climbed to the top spot. Azam replaced his Indian counterpart Virat Kohli, who was occupying the top position for nearly three and a half years. Rohit Sharma with 825 points is the only other Indian player who has featured in the latest top 10 batting chart.
  • R Ashwin is the lone Indian to find a place in the top 10 all-rounders’ list at the No 9 spot Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan leads the pack ahead of injured England all-rounder Ben Stokes and Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi.
  • Among bowlers, Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has held on to his fourth position behind top-ranked Trent Boult of New Zealand.

India finished women’s wrestling Asian Championship titles with seven medals

  • Olympics-bound Indian wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Anshu Malik clinched their maiden Asian Championship titles at Almaty, Kazakhstan as India ended with seven medals from the women’s event with four gold. The event marred by the absence of countries China and Japan due to COVID-19, India also bagged one silver and two bronze medals.

Former Zimbabwe captain Heath Streak banned for 8 years for breaching the ICC anti-corruption code

  • Former Zimbabwe all-rounder Heath Streak accepted give charges of breaching the ICC Anti-Corruption Code between 2016 and 2018 during his ensure as coaches of the senior national Zimbabwe team. He was also charged with leaking inside information during his coaching roles, including the IPL.
