SAP to collaborate with NITI Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission

SAP has signed a Statement of Intent (SOI) with NITI Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), a flagship programme of the Government of India to promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.

As part of the SOI, SAP in 2018 will adopt 100 Atal Tinkering Laboratories (ATL) to promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education among secondary school children across India.

The program aims to enable students to learn advanced technology topics relevant to digital transformation and the Internet of Things.

Government releases draft policy on defence production

The Defence Ministry has framed a draft policy which expects to achieve a turnover of Rs 1,70,000 crore in military goods and services in 2025 by promoting the domestic defence industry.

The policy aims to make India one of the top five manufacturers of defence platforms with active participation of public and private sectors.

The policy also lists the major aim in achieving export of Rs 35,000 crore in military equipment.


3,21,567 Affordable Houses Sanctioned Under PMAY

The Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs has approved the construction of 3,21,567 more affordable houses.

It is for the benefit of urban poor under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban).

The investment cost is Rs. 18,203 cr with central assistance of Rs. 4,752  cr.


India’s 1st Insect Museum Opened in Tamil Nadu

Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami inaugurated an insect museum in Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU).

It is India’s first of its kind museum and  the museum houses 20,000 insects from 50 species.

It is established at a cost of ₹ 5 crore.

The theme of the museum is “BUGS ARE KINGS”.


Ministry of Power Joins Hands With Skill India

The Ministry of Power joins hands with Skill India to support electrification scheme ‘Saubhagya’.

It aims to train the manpower in six states for speedy implementation of its SAUBHAGYA scheme.

SAUBHAGYA (Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojna) aims to achieve universal household electrification in all parts of the country.

Jual Oram Launches Tribes India E-Commerce Portal and M-Commerce App

The Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram has launched ‘e-Tribes:Tribes India’, an initiative for digital commerce at Tribes India outlet.

It included launch of e-commerce portal of TRIFED, www.tribesindia.com and M-commerce, android app ‘Tribes India’.

TRIBES India has now started marketing tribal handicrafts on e-commerce portals.

The constituency of Jual Oram is Sundargarh, Odisha.


International Solar Alliance and India ink host country agreement

The International Solar Alliance (ISA) and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), signed the Host Country Agreement.

The Agreement will give ISA a juridical personality and gives it power to contract, to acquire and dispose off movable and immovable properties, to institute and defend legal proceedings.

The agreement was signed by General (Dr.) V. K. Singh, Minister of State, Ministry of External Affairs and Shri Upendra Tripathy, Interim Director General ISA.

The ISA is an initiative jointly launched by the Prime Minister of India and President of France. The primary objective of the alliance is to work for efficient exploitation of solar energy to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

Win Myint elected new Myanmar president

Myanmar’s parliament has elected Win Myint as its new President.

Recently, Myanmar’s first democratically elected President Htin Kyaw resigned from the position due to health issues.

Win Myint has been a speaker in the lower house since 2012.

SC appoints Justice Jawad Rahim as acting chairperson of NGT

The Supreme Court has appointed Justice Jawad Rahim, judicial member of National Green Tribunal (NGT), as the acting chairperson of the green panel.

The National Green Tribunal has been established under the National Green Tribunal Act 2010 for effective and expeditious disposal of cases relating to environmental protection and conservation of forests and other natural resources.


Indu Bhushan: Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ABNHPM

Indu Bhushan has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Centre’s ambitious Ayushman Bharat National Health Protection Mission (ABNHPM).

Bhushan, the Director General of East Asia Department, Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Manila, Philippines, has been appointed to the post for a period of two years.

The scheme has the benefit cover of Rs 5 lakh per family per year.

The target beneficiaries of the proposed scheme will be more than 10 crore families belonging to poor section.


Vijay Raghavan appointed principal scientific advisor to govt

K Vijay Raghavan has been appointed as Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India.

He will succeed nuclear physicist R Chidambaram, who has been in the position for more than 16 years.

Vijay Raghavan is working as the Secretary in the Department of Biotechnology and he will have a tenure of three years.

The Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma and shuttler PV Sindhu has been featured in the Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia 2018 list.

The Forbes list highlights 300 young individuals driving change in Asia.

It includes innovators and disruptors who are reshaping their industries and changing Asia for the better.

ISSF Junior World Cup- Manu Bhaker, Anmol Jointly Lift Gold

The duo of Manu Bhaker and Anmol secured India’s seventh gold medal in the ISSF junior World Cup by winning the mixed 10m air pistol event with a qualification world record.

Genemat Sekhon bagged an individual bronze medal in the junior women’s skeet.

Overall, India occupied the second place with 18 medals, including seven gold, while China in first place.


Smith, Warner banned from IPL 2018

The Australian pair Steven Smith and David Warner, the country’s captain and vice-captain has been banned from IPL 2018 (1 year) because of ball tampering issue. Cameron Bancroft has been banned for 9 months.

The decision was made by the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators, in consultation with the BCCI Acting President CK Khanna, IPL Chairman Rajeev Shukla and BCCI Acting Hon. Secretary Amitabh Choudhary.
