  • Bione launched a rapid COVID-19 at-home Screening test kit & is the first healthcare company in India to introduce this. 
  • It is priced between ₹2000-3000/-. Bione, based in Banglaore is the first company to bring NSG Sequencing to India.
  • Bione was founded by Surendra K Chikara, a renowned genomicist.

Telangana govt launches website to fact-check false social media posts:

  • To keep a strict vigil on the spreading of fake news and misinformation through social media platforms by individuals, the Telangana government in partnership with Factly Media & Research launched a fact-checking website and dissecting misleading posts.
  • The portal is first of its kind by a state government.

MHA approves release of ₹11,092 cr to states to deal with COVID-19:

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah approved the release of ₹11,092 crores to all states under the State Disaster Risk Management Fund (SDRMF) for setting up quarantine facilities and arranging other facilities for checking the spread of coronavirus.

Pune based company develops technology- “Scitech Airon negative ion generator” :

  • Jclean weather Technology private limited, company of Science & Technology (Scitech) Park, Pune has developed a technology- “Scitech Airon negative ion generator” to control viral, bacterial and fungal infections in closed environments can clean the air & disinfect areas caused by COVID-19 positive cases & suspects.

  • Associations representing officers of Civil Services, including IAS & IPS formed an initiative called ‘Caruna’ to fight coronavirus. 
  • It represents a collaborative platform, on which civil servants, industry leaders, NGOs have come together to contribute.

FCI sets new record in single day transportation of food grains:

  • Food Corporation of India (FCI) has set a new record in single-day movement by moving 70 rakes carrying 1,93,000 MT of food grains continuously for 2 days. 
  • During the 12 days of lockdown, it has done average movement of 1,40,000 tonnes of food grain/day.
  • Among the consuming states, maximum induction was done in Uttar Pradesh.

Maharashtra govt, BMC to launch a 24 X 7 helpline to address mental health during COVID-19:

  • To alleviate these mental health concerns during a lockdown, Mpower, an Indian mental healthcare institute has partnered with the Maharashtra govt & the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to launch a toll-free helpline number called ‘BMC-Mpower 1on1’.

Competition Commission of India (CCI) approves stake-buy in Religare Health Insurance by Trishikhar Ventures:

  • CCI approved the acquisition of 18.95% stake in Religare Health Insurance Company by Trishikhar Ventures under the green channel route.
  • The green channel concept- allows automatic system for speedy approval for certain categories of merger and acquisitions.

IAF transports 6.2 tons of essential medicines to Maldives under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’:

  • Coronavirus (COVID 19) is causing terrible havoc in the country and the world at this time. In such a situation, India is coming forward to help less capable countries in fighting Covid 19. 
  • In this sequence, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has launched ‘Operation Sanjeevani’ and air-lifted 6.2 tonnes of essential medical supplies to Maldives via transport aircraft C-130J as assistance in fight against the virus.

IndusInd Bank taps CPPIB, GIC to raise $500 million:

  • IndusInd Bank and its promoter the Hinduja Group have initiated talks with sovereign wealth funds and pension funds, including Canada’s CPPIB (Canada Pension Plan Investment Board) and Singapore’s GIC Ltd, to raise $500 million. 
  • It has been one of the most impacted banks due to COVID-19. GIC is a Singapore Company.

SEBI  Whole-time member Madhabi Puri Buch gets six-month extension:

  • Madhabi Puri Buch, Whole Time Member at SEBI is given a six-month extension by the govt. Buch was appointed in April ‘17 & her 3-year tenure ends in March. 
  • Buch is SEBI’s 1st woman WTM and the 1st from the private sector to be appointed a board member.
  • Formerly she is working as an executive Director of ICICI bank.

  • American songwriter, soulful singer, guitarist & 3 time Grammy award winner Bill Withers passed at 81, due to heart complications in Los Angeles.
  • He was born on July 4, 1938, in the coal-mining town of Slab Fork, West Virginia, United States.

IOC sets new deadline for Tokyo Olympics qualification:

  • According to International Olympic Committee the new deadline for the qualification period for the postponed Tokyo Olympics has been set to June 29, 2021.
