5 crore free LPG connections under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana
The Loksabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan has handed over 5 croreth LPG connection under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) in the Parliament House.
The Government launched Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) on 1st May, 2016 and it is implemented by Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas through its Oil Marketing Companies i.e., IOC, BPCL and HPCL through their network of distributors across the country.
PMUY aims at providing clean-cooking fuel to the poor households, which are otherwise vulnerable to various health hazards.
Initially, 5 crore BPL households were targeted for providing deposit free LPG connections to BPL households by 31st March,2019.
Government approves 122 research projects under ‘IMPRINT-2’ scheme
The Government has approved 122 new research projects of 112 crore rupees under its Impacting Research Innovation and Technology ‘IMPRINT-2’ scheme.
The initiative aims to advance research in energy, security, and healthcare domains in the high education institutions.
IMPRINT is the first of its kind government supported initiative to address the major science and engineering challenges that India must address and champion to enable, empower and embolden the nation for inclusive growth and self-reliance.
UP’s Mughalsarai Junction renamed as Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction
The Mughalsarai Junction of Uttar Pradesh will be formally renamed after RSS ideologue Deen Dayal Uphadyay.
The BJP president Amit Shah, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will attend theceremony.
They will also launch a “smart yard” project at the century-old station on the busy Delhi-Howrah route.
Telangana, Tech Mahindra ink MoU for India’s first Blockchain District
The Tech Mahindra and the Telangana government signed an agreement to establish the Blockchain district, a first-of-its-kind Centre of Excellence for Blockchain.
It will be a centre of excellence, an incubator and process development for the emerging technology with innovative infrastructure and facilities to foster the growth of Indian blockchain start-ups and companies.
Tech Mahindra as a founding member of the blockchain district will provide the platform and technology assistance to all the incubators in it.

Lok Sabha has passed National Sports University Bill, 2018
The Lok Sabha has passed a Bill establishing a National Sports University in Manipur as part of a vision to enhance country’s standing in sports.
The National Sports University Bill, 2018, which sought to replace an Ordinance promulgated on May 31, was passed by a voice vote.
The university would promote sports coaching and research at a cost of ₹524 crore.
The University research on physical education, strengthen sports training programmes, and collaborate internationally in the field of physical education.

Facebook has launched “Digital Literacy Library”
Facebook has announced the launch of a “Digital Literacy Library” to help young people build the skills they need to safely enjoy online technology.
It is a collection of lessons to help young people think critically and share thoughtfully online.
The interactive lessons and videos is developed in partnership with the Youth and Media team at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society at Harvard University for educators of youth aged 11 to 18. It can be downloaded for free.
The lessons can be found on Facebook’s Safety Center as well as on Berkman Klein’s Digital Literacy Resource Platform.

India-Israel collaborate to strengthen sectors of agriculture, health & environment
India and Israel has collaborated with six innovative technologies in the fields of healthcare, agriculture and water management and interacted with various Indian businesses.
An innovation fund under which the two countries will contribute USD 4 million each annually for a period of five years will be given.
With a growth in diplomatic ties, India has emerged as one of the largest trading partners for Israel.

Japan overtakes China to become world’s second-largest stock market: Bloomberg
According to Bloomberg, Japan has pipped China as the world’s number two stock market.
The Chinese market was worth $6.09 trillion next to Japan’s $6.17 trillion.
Both markets are ranked after the US which is the world’s largest at just over $31 trillion.
China lost to Japan after Chinese stocks and currency fell this year amid a trade war with the US.

‘Umbrella Organisation’ to revive Urban Co-op Banking: RBI
India’s co-operative banking sector is set to undergo a transformation with the concept of Umbrella Organisation (UO) of Urban Co-operative Banks (UCBs). It would help to solve the issues that distress the sector.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has allowed non-fund-based umbrella organisations at State levels, where respective State federations will head the team.
Gujarat is the first State in the country to have an UO for the UCB sector. The UO will benefit the UCBs not only on the financial front, but also make technology and new innovations accessible to them.

Three High Court Judges appointed for Supreme Court
Three high court judges were appointed to the Supreme Court, taking the total number of judges in the apex court to 25.
Uttarakhand High Court Chief Justice K.M. Joseph, Madras HC Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Orissa HC Chief Justice Vineet Saran were appointed to the Supreme Court. Their warrants of appointment were signed by the President.
It is the highest court in India and Article 141 of the Constitution of India states that the law declared by Supreme Court is to be binding on all Courts within the territory of India.

Women’s Hockey: Netherlands crowned world champions for record 8th time
In Women’s Hockey, the Netherlands have been crowned the world champions for a record eighth time.
The defending champions recorded a stunning 6-0 victory over Ireland in the summit clash at London.
Spain won the third place match by beating Australia 3-1 to claim their first ever World Cup medal. India finished the tournament at the 8th spot.
Badminton: P V Sindhu settles for Silver in World Championships’ women’s singles title
P V Sindhu won silver in the World Championships’ women’s singles title clash. She was defeated by Carolina Marin of Spain. Marin had also defeated Sindhu in the final of the Rio Olympics in 2016.
Marin became the first woman shuttler to win the world championships thrice. She had won the title in 2014 and the 2015 Jakarta edition.
Golf: Gaganjeet Bhullar grabbed his maiden European Tour title
In Golf, India’s Gaganjeet Bhullar has grabbed his maiden European Tour title at the Fiji International.
It was Bhullar’s first win on the European Tour, ninth Asian Tour title and 10th crown overall. He now becomes the most successful Indian player on Asian Tour, overtaking the tally of eight tour wins by Arjun Atwal and Jyoti Randhawa.
