International Day of Persons with Disabilities – 3 December

  • International Day of Persons with Disabilities is observed on 3 December every year to commemorate the problems, barriers and opportunities faced by people with disabilities, as well as an opportunity for the worldwide community to focus its efforts toward a more inclusive society.
  • Theme for 2021: ‘Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 world’.

Himachal Pradesh Police was honoured with the ‘President’s Colour Award’

  • The ‘President’s Colour Award’ ceremony was organised by the Himachal Pradesh Police on the Ridge.
  • The Governor of Himachal Pradesh Rajendra Arlekar honoured the Himachal Pradesh Police with the ‘President’s Colour Award’, which was received by the Himachal Pradesh Director-General of Police Sanjay Kundu.
  • The ‘President’s Colour’ is a special achievement and this proves the state police ranks high in the service of humanity along with performance, professionalism, integrity, protection of human rights and other parameters.

Asian Development Bank approves a $500 million loan for the Government of India to improve the quality of school education

  • The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $500 million loan to the Indian Government to improve the quality of school education and minimise the effects of the COVID-19 outbreak on student’s learning.
  • This loan supports the Union Ministry of Education’s (MOE) new Exemplar School initiative and the Integrated Scheme for School Education (Samagra Shiksha) to improve education quality by focusing on inclusive and equitable learning outcomes.
  • This loan will help to scale up foundational learning for primary students and enhance the relevance of secondary education by introducing science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics (STEAM) and integrated vocational education.

ATM cash withdrawal charges are set to increase from January 2022

  • As per the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines, the customers will have to pay more if they exceed the free ATM transaction limit from 1 January 2022.
  • The RBI has increased the interchange fee from ₹20 to ₹21 per transaction effective from 1 January 2022.
  • Customers are entitled to five free transactions from their own bank ATMs each month, including financial and non-financial transactions. Earlier, they must pay an additional ₹20 for each ATM transaction if they exceed the limit.
  • Customers who withdraw cash from other banks’ ATMs are entitled to three free ATM transactions in metro cities and five in non-metro areas.

Kotak Mahindra Bank partners with Worldline to enable EMIs on its debit cards

  • Kotak Mahindra Bank has partnered with Europe-based payment and transactional service firm Worldline to enable equated monthly instalments (EMIs) payments on the Kotak debit cards in India.
  • The minimum purchase value to avail EMIs on the Kotak debit cards is ₹5000 and customers have the flexibility to repay the loan over tenures between three months and 12 months.

GDP Predictions


DBS revises India’s GDP growth forecast to 7% for FY23

  • DBS has revised India’s GDP growth forecast upwards to 7 per cent from 6 per cent earlier for FY23.
  • The GDP forecast of India for FY22 is predicted as 5 per cent by the DBS Bank.

OECD lowers India’s GDP growth forecast to 9.4% for FY22

  • The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has lowered India’s GDP growth forecast to 4 per cent from 9.7 per cent for FY22.
  • India is projected to grow at around 8.1 per cent for FY23 with the rate slightly brought down to 5.5 per cent for FY24.

  • Chief Economist of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Gita Gopinath is set to become the first Deputy Managing Director of the IMF, which is the second-highest position in IMF after that of the Managing Director.

  • Oyo Hotels and Homes (OYO) has appointed the former Chairman of State Bank of India Rajnish Kumar as its strategic group advisor.
  • He is currently on the boards of HSBC Asia Pacific, L&T Infotech, Hero Motocorp and BharatPe.

Shefali Shah was appointed as the Chairperson of the ICAI’s Quality Review Board

  • Shefali Shah was appointed as the Chairperson of the ICAI Quality Review Board (QRB) by the Union Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
  • The QRB, established under the Chartered Accountants Act 1949, has 11 members including six nominees of the Union Government (Chairman and five members).

Common Service Centre signs an MoU with RailTel to launch UPI-based CSCPay

  • Common Service Centre (CSC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with RailTel and launched a UPI-based CSCPay to boost ‘Digital India’. This MoU is also for the launching of a teleconsultation service on WhatsApp.
  • This partnership between CSC and Railtel aims to increase broadband penetration in rural and semi-urban areas, bridging the digital divide.
  • RailTel’s digital kiosks at rural/semi-urban train stations will be run by CSC’s village-level entrepreneurs for e-enablement of citizens and spreading awareness of RailWire services.
