  • World Thinking Day is celebrated annually on 22 February This day celebrates friendship, sisterhood and women empowerment and aims to raise funds for 10 million girl guides and scouts present in 150 countries. This day was first started in 1926.

IIT Madras inaugurates its largest hostel

  • IIT Madras has inaugurated its largest hostel was named ‘Mandakini’ on the campus which can accommodate around 1,200 students. This hostel was built at the cost of ₹ 146 crores.
  • The 10-story building has a built-up area of 32,180 square metre and various green building measures such as a solar hot water system were adopted to reduce the energy consumption of the building.

Assam Government collaborates with IIT Madras to launch India’s first-night navigation mobile app in rivers

  • Assam Government launched India’s first-night navigation mobile application in rivers for ferries on the Brahmaputra River.
  • The transport department developed the night navigation mobile application in association with the principal scientist of IIT Madras Raju and will survey the draft of the rivers.
  • The inaugural night journey of an Inland Water Transport (IWT) ferry fitted with the system sailed between Guwahati and North Guwahati and completed the return journey in nearly an hour.

India and Japan to hold joint seminars on attracting Hydrogen investments

  • The Embassy of Japan has collaborated with Japanese organisations of the region, designated February–April 2022 as the ‘India-Japan Clean Hydrogen Month’ to attract further investment and to resolve technical and economic issues obstructing the utilisation of hydrogen.
  • Under the initiative, the potential of hydrogen business in India and Japan’s advanced hydrogen technology to all the stakeholders in public and private sectors from both the countries.

IIFL Home Finance signs $ 68 million loan agreement with ADB

  • IIFL Home Finance Limited (IIFL HFL) has signed a $ 68 million loan agreement with Asian Development Bank (ADB) to improve financial access to affordable green housing for lower-income groups in India.
  • The funding comprises a direct ADB loan of up to $ 58 million and a $ 10 million concessional loan by the Canadian Climate Fund for the Private Sector in Asia (CFPS).

India and Oman bilateral air force exercise ‘Eastern Bridge-VI’ begins in Jodhpur, Rajasthan

  • The Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Royal Air Force of Oman began a five-day bilateral exercise at the Jodhpur air force station, Rajasthan. The exercise named ‘Eastern Bridge-VI’ is in its sixth edition.

Paytm Payments Bank signs up as acquiring partner for e-RUPI service

  • Paytm Payments Bank become an official acquiring partner for the government’s e-RUPI vouchers This payments bank has partnered with Paytm parent One97 Communications Limited (OCL) to leverage the latter’s merchant base.
  • Paytm’s merchant partners can then scan, enter the amount to be paid and receive the payment directly into their bank accounts.
  • e-RUPI is a cashless prepaid voucher that beneficiaries can present through SMS (or) QR Code.

IRCTC partnered with NPCI and BOB Financial Solutions limited to launch a co-branded credit card for railway customers

  • Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) partnered with NPCI and BOB Financial Solutions Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bank of Baroda (BoB) to launch a co-branded credit card ‘IRCTC BoB RuPay Contactless Credit Card’ to tap the huge potential the market offers.
  • This co-branded credit card is specially curated to offer maximum savings to frequent travellers on the Indian Railways.

 

KSUM partners with Google for startups to foster global links

  • Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) has collaborated with tech giant Google for local startups to connect with the global startup community.
  • This collaboration will enable Kerala’s startups to join a wider network to leverage Google’s programme comprising mentorship and training of startup teams to help scale up their solutions.

 

Tata Power signed MoU with RWE Renewables to develop offshore wind projects

  • Tata Power signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with German electricity generating company RWE Renewables GmbH to explore the potential for joint development of offshore wind projects in India.
  • This MoU becomes significant in the light of the Government of India’s announcement of achieving 30 gigawatts (GW) of offshore wind installations by 2030 to meet India’s growing power demands.

 

Adani Group inks pact with Nasdaq-listed Ballard Power for hydrogen fuel cells

  • The Adani Group has signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nasdaq-listed Canada based Ballard Power Systems to evaluate a joint investment for the commercialisation of hydrogen fuel cells in various mobility and industrial applications in India.
  • Under this MoU, both companies will examine various options to cooperate, including potential collaboration for fuel cell manufacturing in India.

  • He is a 1987-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territories) cadre.
