HM Rajnath Singh inaugurates two-day International Workshop on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure:

                    Union Home Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh will inaugurate a two-day International Workshop on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (IWDRI) in New Delhi. The workshop is organised by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in collaboration with United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR). This workshop aims to take this dialogue on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure and global cooperation further.

India, Bhutan jointly unveil ‘Special logo’:

          External Affairs Minister (EAM) Sushma Swaraj and Bhutan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Lyonpo Damcho Dorji jointly unveiled the ‘Special logo’ for the Golden Jubilee celebrations in New Delhi and Thimphu through video-conference. The Golden Jubilee of the establishment of formal diplomatic relations between India and Bhutan is being celebrated in the year 2018.

Federal Bank ties up with Hedge Equities:

Federal Bank has entered into a strategic partnership with Hedge Equities Ltd for providing Portfolio Investment Scheme (PIS) services to NRIs. A formal agreement was executed in which Jose K Mathew (EVP & Head Retail Business, Federal Bank) and Alex Babu (MD, Hedge Equities Ltd) exchanged the MoU announcing the tie-up.

IDFC Bank and Capital First announce merger via share swap deal:

 

The boards of the IDFC Bank Ltd. and Capital First Ltd., approved a merger between themselves. The merged entity will have a diversified portfolio across large corporate lending, small and medium enterprise (SME) loans and retail credit.

Delhi and Punjab richest states, Jain wealthiest community: National survey

According to wealth index released on basis of data from fourth round of National Family and Health Survey (NFHS-4) recently released by the Ministry Of Health And Family Welfare. Delhi is richest state and Jain wealthiest community in the country. The NFHS-4 was conducted among more than 6 lakh households in 2015-16.

Delhi and Punjab are richest states with over 60% of their households in the top wealth quintile. They are followed by Goa with 54.5% households in top wealth quintile. They are followed by Goa with 54.5% households in the top bracket. Bihar is poorest state half of its households in the bottom quintile Rajasthan has most equitable wealth distribution with a similar number of households in all quintiles.

Yuki Bhambri qualifies for Australian Open tennis tournament:

          In Melbourne, the 25-year old Indian Yuki Bhambri overcame Canadian Peter Polansky and has qualified for the Australian Open tennis tournament.

Update : 

Yukhi Bhambri was defeated by Marcus Baghdatis (Cyprus) in the 1st Round of Australian Open Men’s Singles. The Lone Indian contender in the main draw, Yukhi Bhambri was defeated by the Cypriot in straight sets.

Indian Army celebrates 70th Army Day:

Army Day is celebrated on January 15 every year. The Indian Army celebrates the 70th Army Day, with parades and shows at its major locations across the country. The celebration marks the day Field Marshal KM Cariappa took over as the first Indian chief of the nation’s Army in 1949. General Bipin Rawat reviews parade in New Delhi.


OBITUARY

Veteran journalist and writer Gnani Sankaran passes away:

Veteran Tamil writer, journalist and theatre personality, Gnani Sankaran, died. He was the editor of a Tamil magazine ‘Dheemtharikida’, which was first published in printed form and then in electronic form.


Former Union minister Raghunath Jha passes away:

Raghunath Jha (78) was former Union minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprise in UPA government led by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, passed away at a Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
