Jharkhand Plans to Set Up India’s 1st Khadi Mall

The first ‘Khadi Mall’ of India will be opened in Jharkhand. It was announced by Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das.

The land in the Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC) campus will be made available to the Khadi Board to develop the country’s first Khadi mall.

The artisans would be provided technological aid for value addition in their products, while rural, urban and tourism ‘haats’ will provide them markets for their goods.

India to host IUFoST 2018

The International Union of Food Science and Technology (IUFoST), the global voice of food science and technology in association with Indian National Science Academy (INSA) as adhering body, announced the 19th edition of its prestigious global event to be held in Navi Mumbai, India from October 23-27, 2018.

The five-day event will bring together researchers, academicians, professionals, policy makers and industry leaders from across the globe to showcase innovation, exchange breakthrough ideas and drive policy issues.

The focal theme for this edition of the prestigious congress is 25 Billion Meals a Day by 2025 with Healthy, Nutritious, Safe and Diverse Foods.


Interpol issues red corner notice against Nirav Modi

The Interpol issued a red corner notice (a request to locate and provisionally arrest an individual pending extradition) against jeweller Nirav Modi.

The notice is put out to ask countries to help with tracking down and arresting a wanted person, so that they can be extradited. It is the closest instrument to an international arrest warrant, according to the Interpol.

The global notice, which empowers 192 member-countries to provisionally arrest a suspect, will make it difficult for Nirav Modi to travel freely.


Income Tax Department launches ‘Instant’ PAN Card Service

The Income Tax Department has launched an ‘instant’ Aadhaar-based PAN allotment service for individuals seeking the unique identity for the first time.

This facility is free of cost and instant allotment of e-PAN is available for a limited period on a first-come, first-served basis for valid Aadhaar holders.

The facility was introduced because of the increasing number of people applying for the PAN.The e-PAN facility is only for resident individuals and not for Hindu Undivided Family, firms, trusts and companies.


Bhitarkanika NP Becomes Largest Habitat Of Endangered Estuarine Crocodiles

The Bhitarkanika national park in Odisha has become the largest habitat of the endangered estuarine crocodiles in India with a record number of their nesting sites spotted in it.

Altogether 101 nesting sites of estuarine crocodiles were found this time by enumerators, Divisional Forest Officer, Rajnagar Mangrove (wildlife) Forest Division.

At least 1698 crocodiles, including albino species, were counted this year along the water-bodies of Mahanadi delta region, while the figure recorded last year stood at 1682.

Estuarine crocodiles are also found in West Bengals Sundarban areas having the countrys largest mangrove cover.


Tata Power Renewable commissions 100 MW solar capacity in Anthapuramu

Tata Power’s  arm Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL) commissioned 100 MW (50 MW x 2) solar capacity at Anthapuramu Solar Park, Andhra Pradesh.

With this, the overall operating renewable capacity of the TPREL now stands at 2,215 MW in India.

The sale of power from this solar plant has been tied up under a 25 year power purchase agreement with Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).

This is part of the implementation of the MNRE scheme for developing grid connected solar power capacity of Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) Phase II, Batch-III of the Government of India through Viability Gap Funding (VGF) Mode.

The company has organically added 159 MW wind and solar capacity in FY17 along with the acquisition of Welspun Renewables Energy Pvt Ltd.


Madhya Pradesh to implement Ayushman Bharat Yojana

In Madhya Pradesh, the Ayushman Bharat Yojana under the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Swasthya Suraksha Mission will be implemented in the state from August 15 this year.

A total of 84 lakh families of deprived section have been included in the Ayushman Bharat scheme on the basis of socio-economic caste census. An annual Health Security Cover of 5 lakh rupees will be provided to each family under the scheme.

An expenditure of over Rs. 16 hundred crore at the rate of Rs. Twelve hundred per family has been estimated. An amount of Rs. 600 crore in the form of Grant-in-Aid will be provided by central government, whereas around Rs. 400 crore will be shared by the state.

Asia’s 1st Patent Arbitration Centre To Open In Tokyo

Asia’s first arbitration centre specialised in intellectual property is slated to open in Tokyo  to resolve the growing number of disputes in the region.

The International Arbitration Centre in Tokyo (IACT) is set to have around a dozen arbitrators from around the world, who would try to resolve disputes within a period of one year.

BSE, BME Tie-Up To Develop Commodity Derivatives Markets

The Premier stock exchange BSE has entered into an agreement with the Bombay Metal Exchange (BME) for the growth and systematic development of commodity derivatives markets in the non-ferrous metals complex.

Through this memorandum of understanding (MoU), the BSE and the BME will co-ordinate and work jointly on initiatives to deepen the understanding of commodity market among stakeholders.

The BME will assist the BSE in designing new and innovative deliverable products in commodities like aluminium, copper, zinc, nickel and lead among, others.


Tata Steel and Thyssenkrup Joint Venture Approved

The Tata Steel board gave the green flag to the joint venture with German steel giant Thyssenkrup.

This deal will see both steel majors combine their European businesses to form a 50:50 joint venture.

The resultant entity, which will be called Thyssenkrup Tata Steel BV , will be the second-largest steelmaker in European steel sector after Lakshmi Mittal’s ArcelorMittal.

The steelmaking joint venture aims to produce 35,000 million tonnes of cold rolled grain oriented steel every year from its expanded factory, instead of the earlier capacity of 10,000 tonnes per annum.

Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador Elected Mexico’s President

Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has won the Mexico’s Presidential election with over 53% of the vote. Obrador, who has won the presidency at the third attempt, promised to tackle violence and wipe out corruption. His party name is National Regeneration Movement.

He is a former Mexico City mayor and he will formally take power on December 1. His main opponent was Ricardo Anaya.

P K Shrivastava Appointed DG Of Ordnance Factory Board

P K Shrivastava took over the reins of the Ordnance Factory Board as its new director general and chairman.

Shrivastava was earlier the additional director general of ordnance factories and member at OFB.

He was also in-charge of OFB’s Armoured Vehicles headquarters at Avadi in Chennai.

Srivistava joined Indian Ordnance Factories’ Service in 1982 and in a career spanning 36 years

Ordnance Factory Board is an industrial organisation, functioning under the Department of Defence Production of Ministry of Defence, Government of India.


Shri Ravi Thapar  appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Costa Rica

Shri Ravi Thapar (IFS : 1983), presently Ambassador of India to Panama, has been concurrently accredited as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Costa Rica.

He is an Indian foreign service officer (IFS) of 1983 batch.

Artist Anjolie Ela Menon Conferred Kalidas Award

The noted artist Anjolie Ela Menon has received the National Kalidas Samman in Delhi for visual arts from the Madhya Pradesh government.

The award was conferred in recognition of her insightful and sensitive portrayal of the identity and spirit of women through her meaningful paintings in a variety of media.

She  is the recipient of numerous national and international awards including the Padma Shri She recently received a doctorate from Rabindra Bharati University.

Artist A. Ramachandran was also conferred with the Kalidas Award.


Rahul Dravid, 5th Indian To Be Inducted Into ICC Hall Of Fame

The former Indian captain Rahul Dravid and Australian legend Ricky Ponting have been inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame for their stupendous achievements in international cricket.

Along with Dravid and Ponting, retired England woman wicketkeeper-batter Claire Taylor was also named in the ‘Hall of Fame’ during a ceremony in Dublin.

Dravid became only the fifth player from India to be named in the elite list.The other four Indians are former skippers:

  • Sunil Gavaskar
  • Kapil Dev
  • Anil Kumble

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen won Austrian Grand Prix 2018

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen has won the Austrian Grand Prix 2018.

Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen finished in the second spot.

Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel finished third. Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton limped out of the Austrian Grand Prix with just three laps left.
