Union Government extends the superannuation age of LIC Chairman to up to 62 years

  • Union Government has extended the superannuation age of IPO-bound Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) Chairman to up to 62 years by amending the Life Insurance Corporation of India (Staff) Regulations, 1960.
  • It is to be noted that the retirement age for the top executives of the majority of PSUs is 60 years, barring a few exceptions, including the State Bank of India (SBI).

NABARD sanctions Rs. 388 crores for drinking water and road projects in Odisha

  • National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has sanctioned an assistance of Rs. 388 crores for Odisha under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) for setting up four mega piped drinking water supply
  • The four mega projects will come up in the Koraput district (covering Boipariguda block), Balasore district (covering Nilgiri block) and Malkangiri district (covering Malkangiri and Kalimela blocks).

World’s third-largest cricket stadium to come up in Jaipur

  • The world’s third-largest cricket stadium (75,000) is set to be constructed in Jaipur, Rajasthan, after the Narendra Modi Stadium (1,32,000) in Motera and the Melbourne Cricket Stadium (1,00,024) in Australia,
  • The stadium will be completed in 5–3 years with an investment of around Rs. 650 crores.

  • Pushkar Singh Dhami took oath as the 11th Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. He replaced Tirath Singh Rawat, who resigned within four months of taking charge from Trivendra Singh Rawat.
  • The 45-year-old Pushkar Singh Dhami is the youngest Chief Minister of Uttarakhand.

Reserve Bank of India imposes Rs. 25 lakh penalty on Punjab & Sind Bank

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a penalty of 25 lakhs on Punjab and Sind Bank for non-compliance with certain provisions of directions on ‘Cyber Security Framework in Banks’.
  • This penalty was imposed in exercise of powers vested in the RBI under the provisions of Section 47 A (1) (c) read with Sections 46 (4) (i) and 51 (1) of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949“.

Indian Overseas Bank surpasses PNB and BoB to become the second most-valued listed Public Sector Bank

  • Veteran advocate Kalyan Narayan Bhattacharjee was appointed as the new Lokayukta of Tripura for three years, with effect from 1 July 2021.
  • The Lokayukta Act has been in force in Tripura since 2008. KN Bhattacharjee is the third Lokayukta of Tripura and the first to hold the post as a lawyer.

  • The 28-year-old Indian wrestler Sumit Malik was banned for two years by the sport’s world governing body United World Wrestling (UWW), after his B sample also returned positive for a prohibited stimulant (methylhexaneamine).

  • Red Bull driver Max Verstappen won the Formula One Austrian Grand Prix 2021. This was Verstappen’s fifth race win of this season.
  • Mercedes’ Valterri Bottas and Mclaren’s Lando Norris finished second and third position. Lewis Hamilton finished at the fourth position.

Indian woman cricketer Mithali Raj becomes the leading run-scorer across formats in women’s international cricket

  • India women’s cricket team captain Mithali Raj became the highest run-getter in women’s cricket across formats. She overtook former England skipper Charlotte Edwards (10,273 runs).
  • Mithali Raj and Charlotte Edwards are the only players to scale the 10,000-run mark in women’s international cricket.

Indian Navy athlete MP Jabir qualifies for Tokyo Olympics in 400 m hurdles

  • Ace athlete of the Indian Navy, MP Jabir, has qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in 400 m hurdles after he clocked 78 seconds to win gold at the recently concluded Inter-State Athletics Championships in Patiala.
  • The 25-year-old Naval sailor hails from Malappuram, Kerala. He is currently ranked 34th in the World Athletics’ Road to Olympics rankings, where 40 athletes qualify.
