India to add 20 GW wind capacity by 2025: Global Wind Energy Council report

  • According to the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) report, India will install 20 GW of wind capacity over 2021–25. About 90 per cent of this capacity addition will come from central tenders followed by corporate procurement and state markets.
  • Currently, India has a pipeline of 10.3 GW in central and state markets, which is expected to drive installations until 2023.

NHPC and JKPDCL form a joint venture firm to build 850 MW Ratle hydroelectric project

  • National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) and Jammu & Kashmir State Power Development Corporation Limited (JKPDCL) have formed Ratle Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited, a joint venture firm for the implementation of the 850 MW Ratle hydroelectric project in Jammu and Kashmir.
  • NHPC and Jammu & Kashmir State Power Development Corporation Limited hold equity shares of 51% and 49%, respectively, in the joint venture company.

World Bank approves $500 million program to help boost India’s MSME sector

  • The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors has approved a $500 million program to support India’s nationwide initiative to revitalise the MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) sector.
  • The program targets improvements in the performance of 5,55,000 MSMEs and is expected to mobilise financing of $15.5 billion as part of the Indian Government’s $3.4 billion MSME Competitiveness – A Post COVID-19 Resilience and Recovery Programme (MCRRP).

Oman to host first-ever FIH Hockey5s World Cup

  • The Executive Board (EB) of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) has appointed Oman as the host country for the inaugural FIH Hockey5s World Cups (Both Men and Women) to be played in January 2024.
  • The Matches will take place in Oman’s capital city, Muscat. The Hockey5s’ flagship event is a brand-new FIH competition. 16 teams will take part in this very first edition.

BharatPe becomes ICC’s official partner till 2023

  • Lending and digital payments startup BharatPe has inked a three-year agreement to become an official partner with International Cricket Council (ICC).
