Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin inaugurates ‘Minnagam’ customer care cell to redress electricity issues 24×7

  • Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin inaugurated a 24×7 customer care cell ‘Minnagam’ at TANGEDCO (Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation) headquarters in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, to address consumer grievances. The public can register their grievances by calling the 24×7 helpline number — 9498794987.
  • The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister also launched a social media cell for TANGEDCO, which would monitor the grievances related to electricity addressed through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

  • According to a UNCTAD report, India received $64 billion in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in 2020, the fifth-largest recipient of inflows in the world. The USA was the largest recipient of inflows, followed by China and Hong Kong.

  • Private lender ICICI Bank has introduced the instant ‘Cardless EMI’ facility to online purchases made on e-commerce platforms.
  • The instant Cardless EMI facility allows customers to instantly buy products or services (up to Rs. 5 lakhs) online through Equated Monthly Instalments (EMIs) in just a few clicks by using their mobile phone and PAN.

Union Bank of India signs an MoU with NSIC to support MSMEs with credit requirements

  • Union Bank of India (UBI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Small Industries Corporation Ltd. (NSIC) under the “NSIC Bank Credit Facilitation Scheme” to support MSMEs with credit requirements.
  • Under the arrangement, any MSME Unit can approach any of the NSIC branch offices which are also operating as Finance Facilitation Centre (FFC) and submit their request for loan requirements from Union Bank of India.

World’s third-largest diamond was discovered in Botswana

  • A 1,098-carat diamond was discovered in Botswana, a joint venture between Anglo American’s De Beers and the Botswana It is the third-largest gem-quality stone ever to be mined.
  • The largest diamond to be recovered to date is a 3,106 carat Cullinan stone in South Africa in 1905, followed by the 1,109 carat Lesedi La Rona unearthed by Lucara Diamonds in Botswana in 2015.

Airtel and TCS partner for 5G network solutions

  • Bharti Airtel and Tata Group have announced a strategic partnership for implementing 5G network solutions for India, which will be available for commercial development from January 2022.
  • Tata Group has developed an O-RAN (open-radio access network)-based radio and non-standalone architecture/stand-alone architecture (NSA/SA) core and has integrated an indigenous telecom stack, leveraging the capabilities of the group and its partners.

  • India’s Tajinderpal Singh Toor, the reigning Asian Games champion in men’s shot-put, has qualified for Tokyo Olympics Games 2020 with an Asian record throw of 49 metres in the Indian Grand Prix IV in Patiala, Punjab.
  • In the women’s 100-metre sprint, Dutee Chand clocked 11.17 seconds to improve her national record of 11.24 seconds which she had clocked in Ranchi in 2019.
