Assam Government signs an MoU with the Survey of India for a rural property survey

  • The Assam Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Survey of India (SoI) for implementing the Svamitva scheme in Assam. The scheme aims to provide an integrated property validation solution for rural areas.

Union Ministry of Defense signs contract with Goa Shipyard Limited for the construction of two Pollution Control Vessels for the Indian Coast Guard

  • Union Ministry of Defence signed a contract with Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) for the construction of two Pollution Control Vessels (PCVs) for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) at the cost of about 583 crores.
  • These special role ships will be indigenously designed, developed and built by the Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL). The acquisition is under ‘Buy Indian – Indigenously Designed Developed & Manufactured (Buy Indian-IDDM)’.
  • These two vessels are scheduled for delivery by November 2024 and May 2025,

India signs an MoU with Fiji for cooperation in the field of agriculture and allied sectors

  • India virtually signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Fiji for cooperation in the field of agriculture and allied sectors.
  • The MoU was signed by the Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar and Fiji’s Minister of Agriculture, Waterways & Environment Mahendra Reddy.

Union Finance Ministry allows HFCs above Rs. 100 crore asset size to use to SARFAESI law

  • The Union Finance Ministry has now allowed all Housing Finance Companies (HFCs) with asset sizes of over 100 crores to use SARFAESI (Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest Act, 2002) law to recover dues.
  • Previously, HFCs with assets over 500 crores and notified by the Union Finance Ministry were allowed to use SARFAESI law to recover dues.

Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest Act, (SARFAESI) 2002:

  • SARFAESI law was enacted in 2002 and it allows banks and other financial institutions to auction residential or commercial properties to recover loans.

SBI General Insurance enters into bancassurance tie-up with IDFC FIRST Bank

  • SBI General Insurance has signed a corporate agency agreement with IDFC FIRST Bank for the distribution of non-life insurance solutions.
  • Under this strategic agreement, SBI General Insurance will offer insurance products such as health, personal accident, home, motor and travel along with the commercial line of insurance products such as property, marine and engineering insurance, to the IDFC bank customers.

  • The other members in the council are former Chief Economic Adviser Arvind Subramanian, development economist Jean Drèze and former Union Finance Secretary S Narayan.

  • Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court (as per Article 223 of the Constitution of India). He succeeded Chief Justice Sanjay Yadav, who retired recently.
  • He has served as the Judge of the Rajasthan High Court in 2007 and then served as the Judge of the Allahabad High Court in 2019.

  • The 24-year-old Mawya Sudan has become the 12th woman officer and first from Jammu and Kashmir to be inducted as a fighter pilot in the Indian Air Force (IAF).
  • She hails from Lamberi village near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir. She was inducted as a fighter pilot during the combined graduation parade ceremony in Hyderabad.

  • WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) India has named Upasana Kamineni (Director of the Apollo Hospitals) as the “Ambassador of Forest Frontline Heroes” to appreciate the efforts of frontline workers in hospitals and the wildlife protection space.

  • She will also be the oldest weightlifter at the Olympic Games and will be ranked fourth in the competition on 2 August for women 87 kilograms (192 pounds) and over.
