World’s first genetically modified rubber plant was planted in Guwahati, Assam

  • The world’s first genetically modified (GM) rubber plant was planted on the outskirts of Guwahati, Assam. The GM rubber plant was developed at the Kerala-based Rubber Research Institute of India (RRII).
  • It is the first of its kind developed exclusively for the northeast and is expected to thrive in the climatic conditions of the north region.

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani e-launches Agricultural Diversification Scheme 2021

  • Chief Minister of Gujarat Vijay Rupani had e-launched ‘Agricultural Diversification Scheme 2021’ the benefits Vanbandhu farmers in the tribal areas.
  • The scheme will benefit more than 1.26 lakh farmers from 14 tribal districts of Gujarat. Under this scheme, tribal farmers will get fertiliser-seed assistance of 31 crores, in which 45 kg of urea, 50 kg of NPK and 50 kg of ammonium sulphate will be provided.

Tata Motors and Tata Power inaugurate India’s largest solar carport in Pune, Maharashtra

  • Tata Motors and Tata Power jointly inaugurated India’s largest grid-synchronised behind-the-metre solar carport at the Tata Motors car plant in Chikhali, Pune.
  • The 2 MWp solar carport deployed by Tata Power will generate 86.4 lakh kWh of electricity per year and is estimated to reduce 7000 tons of carbon emissions annually and 1.6 lakh tons over its lifecycle.

Union Government eases listing norms for companies having over Rs. 1 lakh crore market capitalisation

  • After the Department of Economic Affairs under the Union Finance Ministry has amended the Securities Contracts (Regulation) Rules, companies that have a market capitalisation (M-cap) of more than 1 lakh crores at the time of listing can now sell just five per cent of their shares.
  • Such entities will be required to increase their public shareholding to 10 per cent in two years and raise the same to at least 25 per cent within five years. 

Kotak Mahindra Bank launches ‘Pay Your Contact’ service

  • Kotak Mahindra Bank has launched a new feature named ‘Pay Your Contact’ service, that enables its customers to send money or make payments to any of their contacts across all payment apps simply by the beneficiary’s mobile number.
  • The ‘Pay Your Contact’ service is available on the lender’s mobile banking app and uses the Unified Payments Interface (UPI)
