Union Ministry of MSME organises the International Summit on Plastics Recycling and Waste Management in New Delhi

  • Union Minister of State for Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Bhanu Pratap Singh Verma has inaugurated the International Summit on Plastics Recycling and Waste Management.
  • This event was organised by the Union Ministry of MSME in association with The All-India Plastics Manufacturers’ Association (AIPMA) in New Delhi.
  • The Union Ministry of MSME also launched two special initiatives — Sambhav and Svavlamban — to promote entrepreneurship amongst youth, especially in aspirational districts all across India.

Union Government sanctions ₹ 3,274 crores for the continuation of freedom fighters pension scheme till 2026

  • The Union Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the continuation of the Swatantrata Sainik Samman Yojana (SSSY) and its components beyond 31 March 2021 for the financial years from 2021–22 to 2025–26, with a total financial outlay of ₹ 3,274.87 crores.
  • This proposal for the continuation of the SSSY was prepared by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs headed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Chhattisgarh Government launches the ‘Kaushalya Matritva Yojana’ for safe motherhood

  • Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has launched the ‘Kaushalya Matritva Yojana’ and gave away cheques of ₹ 5,000 each to five women beneficiaries for safe motherhood.
  • Under this scheme, financial assistance of ₹ 5000 will be given to women on the birth of a second girl child.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin inaugurates India’s largest floating solar project in Tamil Nadu

  • Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K. Stalin inaugurated India’s largest floating solar project in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, to provide clean energy.
  • Leading fertiliser manufacturer Southern Petrochemical Industries Corporation (SPIC) Limited has set up a floating solar project at Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu at an estimated cost of ₹ 150.4 crores.
  • This floating solar project aims to provide environmentally sustainable power generation and to reduce carbon footprint.

Russia becomes the world’s most-sanctioned country

  • According to a New York-based sanctions watchlist site AI report, Russia became the most sanctioned country in the world due to its war on Ukraine.
  • AI stated that sanctions were first imposed by the United States and its allies on Russia after Russian President Vladimir Putin declared the two Ukrainian regions of Donetsk and Luhansk as ‘independent states’.
  • Before this, Iran was the most sanctioned country in the world facing 3,616 sanctions against it over the last decade.

RBI launches instant payment system ‘UPI 123PAY’ for feature phone users

  • Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das launched an instant payment system ‘UPI 123PAY’ for feature phone users. This new Unified Payments Interface (UPI) will allow India’s 40 crore feature phone users to access the payment service more securely.
  • Currently, UPI services are available for users through the USSD-based (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data-based)
  • UPI is India’s largest digital payment system in terms of transaction volumes. UPI is developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the umbrella organisation for all digital payments in India.
  • He also launched the 24×7 helpline for digital payments, DigiSaathi. It will help customers address queries in the digital payments umbrella including cards in two languages — English and Hindi.
  • Feature phone users will now be able to undertake a host of transactions based on four technology alternatives. They include calling an IVR (interactive voice response) number, app functionality in feature phones, missed call-based approach and also proximity sound-based payments

RBI releases a booklet on modus operandi of financial frauds

  • RBI has released a booklet, ‘BE(A)WARE’, on the common modus operandi used by fraudsters and the precautions that are to be taken while carrying out various financial transactions.
  • According to this booklet, sharing of confidential information by customers, knowingly or unknowingly, is one of the major causes leading to financial fraud in India,
  • This booklet aims to enhance public awareness about financial frauds perpetrated on gullible customers.

SEBI increases public debt investment limit through UPI to ₹ 5 lakhs

  • The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) increased the investment limit for payments through the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) mechanism for retail investors buying debt securities in public issues to ₹ 5 lakhs from ₹ 2 lakhs currently to make investments more accessible.
  • This new framework will apply to public issues of debt securities that open from 01 May 2022.

RBI extends the interest subsidy scheme for exporters till March 2024

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has extended the ‘Interest Equalisation Scheme’ for pre and post-shipment rupee credit for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) exporters till March 2024 to boost outbound shipments.
  • Exporters get subsidies under the ‘Interest Equalisation Scheme’ for pre and post-shipment rupee export credit. The interest equalisation rates under this scheme have been revised to 2 per cent and 3 per cent for specified categories of MSME manufacturer exporters.

Former Pakistan President Rafiq Tarar passed away at 92

  • Former Pakistan President Rafiq Tarar passed away at the age of 92. He served as the President of Pakistan between 1997 and 2001 after being nominated by the then Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
  • He also served as a Supreme Court judge in Pakistan from 1991 to 1994.
