  • World Consumer Rights Day is annually celebrated on 15 March to spread awareness about consumers’ rights and needs. The Indian Government passed the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 that outlines some basic consumer rights.
  • The theme for World Consumer Rights Day 2022 is ‘Fair digital finance’.

Mahanadi Coalfields Limited becomes the largest coal-producing company in India

  • The Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) has crossed 157 million tonnes (MT) in coal production in the financial year of 2021–22 and the leading coal-producing company in India.
  • On 12 March 2022, MCL produced 62 lakh tonnes of dry fuel, which is the highest production in a day during the current financial year reaching 157.7 MT with a growth of around 16 per cent over the last financial year (FY21).

India’s first Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Technology Park was launched in Bengaluru

  • India’s first Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Technology Park (ARTPARK) was launched in Bengaluru, Karnataka. It was promoted by a not-for-profit foundation set up by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru, with a seed capital of ₹ 230 crores from the state and union governments.
  • This ARTPARK has the objective of channelising innovations to create a societal impact by executing ambitious, mission-mode research and development projects in healthcare, education, mobility, infrastructure, agriculture, retail and cyber-security aiming to solve problems unique to India.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited signs an MoU with Sasmos to work together in the ‘Aerospace Domain’

  • Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bengaluru-based company ‘Sasmos’ to work together in the field of advanced electronics, electrical and fiber-optic interconnection in the ‘aerospace domain’.

HAL signs an MoU with French firm Safran to extend cooperation on chopper engines

  • Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with French firm Safran Helicopter Engines to extend their cooperation and explore opportunities for new helicopter engines in civil and military markets.
  • A 1,000 sq. m. training and office facility and a 3,800 sq. m. international class shop facility will provide Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) services for Safran TM333 and HAL Shakti engines installed on HAL-built helicopters to increase the operational readiness of the Indian Armed Forces.

  • Tata Sons Chairman Chandrasekaran was appointed the Chairman of Air India.
  • Recently, Chandrasekaran was reappointed as Chairman of Tata Sons for a second term of five years. He was the Managing Director and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) before he was appointed as the Chairman of Tata Sons back in 2017.

Retired Supreme Court Judge B. S. Chauhan was appointed as the Chairperson of the Independent Grievance Redressal Board of the India Edtech Consortium

  • The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) has appointed former Chairperson of the Law Commission of India and retired Supreme Court Judge Justice B. S. Chauhan as the Chairperson of the Independent Grievance Redressal Board (IGRB), formed as part of the India Edtech Consortium (IEC).

Banshidhar Bhagat was appointed as the Protem Speaker of the Uttarakhand Assembly

  • Banshidhar Bhagat was appointed as the Protem Speaker of the Uttarakhand Assembly. He was elected seven-time as the MLA in the Kaladhungi
  • Protem speaker is the temporary speaker, who presides over the first meeting of lower House of Parliament after the general elections besides presiding over the sitting in which the Speaker and Deputy Speaker are elected if it is a newly constituted House.

Tapan Singhel was re-appointed as the MD and CEO of Bajaj Allianz General Insurance for five years

  • Bajaj Allianz General Insurance has extended the tenure of Tapan Singhel as its Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for five more years.
  • He has already completed 10 years as the MD and CEO of Bajaj Allianz General Insurance.

Pradeep Kumar Rawat was appointed as India’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China

  • Pradeep Kumar Rawat was appointed as India’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China. He replaced Vikram Misri, who was appointed as the Deputy National Security Advisor.
  • Pradeep Kumar Rawat has previously served as India’s Ambassador to the Netherlands. He is a 1990 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer.

India and Saudi Arabia emerge as the largest importer of arms from 2017 to 2021: SIPRI Report

  • According to the latest report of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) on Trends in International Arms Transfer 2021, India and Saudi Arabia had emerged as the largest importers of arms between 2017 and 2021, each accounting for 11 per cent of all global arms sales.
  • This report places India at the top of the list. Egypt, Australia and China were the next three largest importers.

Odisha tops the list of full immunisation with 90.5 per cent coverage under Mission Indradhanush 4.0

  • According to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS)-5, Odisha became the only state in India to achieve 5 per cent of immunisation apart from the successful vaccination against COVID-19 infection under Mission Indradhanush 4.0.
  • Twenty districts of Odisha were above 90 per cent in full immunisation and the remaining 10 districts were below 90 per cent.

Indian Kabaddi player Sandeep Nangal passed away in Jalandhar

  • Indian kabaddi player Sandeep Nangal was shot dead by unidentified assailants during a Kabaddi Cup in the Malian village in Jalandhar, Punjab.
  • He was a regular member of the Indian national kabaddi team. He was a frequent player in leagues in the United Kingdom, the United States, New Zealand and Australia.

Former Andhra Pradesh Governor Kumudben Joshi passed away at 88

  • Former Andhra Pradesh Governor Kumudben Joshi passed away at the age of 88. She was the Governor of Andhra Pradesh from 26 November 1985 to 07 February 1990.
  • She was the second female Governor of Andhra Pradesh after Sharda Mukherjee.

  • India’s ODI captain Mithali Raj broke the record for most matches captained in the ICC Women’s World Cup. She surpassed former Australian skipper Belinda Clark.
  • She led India in 24 World Cup games, claiming 14 victories, eight losses and one no result.

Pramod Bhagat wins two silver medals and one bronze medal in Spanish Para-Badminton International 2022

  • Indian Para-Badminton player Pramod Bhagat won two silver medals and a bronze medal and Sukant Kadam won a bronze medal in Spanish Para-Badminton International 2022.
  • World champion Pramod Bhagat won the silver medal in the men’s singles SL3 Silver and the bronze medal in the mixed doubles SL3-SU5 at the Spanish Para-Badminton International 2022.
  • Earlier Pramod Bhagat and his mixed doubles partner Palak Kohli also won the bronze medal.
