Andhra Pradesh became the first State to announce the Gender Budget concept

  • The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, has stated that their State will be the first in the country to come up with the Gender Budget concept.
  • Jagan Mohan Reddy has stated that women should be given equal rights economically, socially, and politically and recognise their services in bettering society.
  • The Chief Minister has emphasised bringing the concept of Gender Budget listing out the expenditure for women welfare through various schemes.

  • Minister of Culture and Tourism Prahlad Singh Patel inaugurated the All-Women’s Art Exhibition titled ‘Akshya Patra’ at Rabindra Bhavan Galleries in New Delhi on the occasion of International Women’s Day (March 8).
  • The exhibition will continue till 20 March and showcase more than 250 artworks from over 12 countries, including those created by 29 talented female artists who attended the three-day All Women’s National Art Camp.

Union Minister Sanjay Dhotre virtually inaugurated MEMP 2021

  • Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, Sanjay Dhotre, inaugurated the International Conference on Multifunctional Electronic Materials and Processing (MEMP 2021) virtually on the occasion of the 30th foundation day of the Centre for Materials for Electronics Technology.
  • The domestic production of electronic items has increased from over one lakh 90 thousand crore rupees in 2014-15 to over five lakh 33 thousand crore rupees in 2019-20 at a compounded annual growth rate of 23 percent.

Union Ministry of Textiles and Ministry of Agriculture signed an MoU on sericulture activities

  • Union Ministry of Textiles and Union Ministry of Agriculture signed an MoU to amplify sericulture activities in the country in the presence of the Union Minister of Textiles Smriti Irani and Minister of State for Agriculture Parshottam Rupala.
  • The MoU will focus on establishing tree-based agroforestry models in sericulture and exploring possibilities of activities through Krishi Vigyan Kendras. It will enhance training, boost technology and create a sustainable livelihood for silk farmers or rearers.

India’s first forest healing centre inaugurated in Ranikhet, Uttarakhand

  • India’s First Forest Healing centre was inaugurated at Kalika near Ranikhet, Uttarakhand. The forest healing centre has been developed by the Research Wing of the Uttarakhand Forest Department. It is spread over an area of around 13 acres.
  • The centre based on making people healthy by bringing them into direct contact with nature. The healing centre, inspired by the Japanese technique of forest bathing (shinrin – yoku).

BRO inaugurated 200-feet Bailey Bridge over Rishiganga River in Uttarakhand

  • The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) constructed a 200-ft bailey bridge in Reini Village on Joshimat – Malari road across the Rishiganga River in Uttarakhand to re-establish connectivity with the Niti border.
  • BRO has restored connectivity in a record time of 26 days to the 13 border villages of Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district.

Google to support 1 million rural women entrepreneurs in India

  • Google CEO Sundar Pichai has announced that Google will support 1 million entrepreneurs in rural India. Google has also announced a        $ 25 million fund for projects that address systemic barriers towards economic equality globally.
  • Additionally, Google.org will be giving a grant of $ 500,000 to NASSCOM (National Association of Software and Service Companies) Foundation to support 1,00,000 women agri workers with digital and financial literacy.

India’s teen Shooter Manu Bhaker wins BBC’s Emerging Player of the Year Award 2021

  • Tokyo Olympics bound 19-year-old Indian shooter Manu Bhaker has been named as India’s Emerging Player of the Year by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).
  • Former Olympian and long jump star Anju Bobby George was conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award.
  • Reigning women’s rapid world chess champion Grandmaster Koneru Humpy won the BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year 2021

Autobiography of Abdul Ghaffar Khan ‘The Frontier Gandhi: My Life and Struggle’ released in English

  • The book titled “The Frontier Gandhi: My Life and Struggle”, is translated by former Pakistani civil servant and author Imitiaz Ahmad Sahibzada. The autobiography of freedom fighter Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan (fondly known as Bacha Khan or Badshah Khan), is now released in English by the publishing house Roli Books.
  • Bacha Khan’s autobiography was first published in Pukhto in 1983, in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Former Rajasthan and Gujarat Governor Anshuman Singh passed away at 86

  • Justice Anshuman Singh, former Governor of Rajasthan and Gujarat, passed away at the age of 86 due to some health ailments. He was the appointed Judge of the Allahabad High Court in 1984 and later became acting Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court.
  • Anshuman Singh served as the Governor of Rajasthan from January 1999 till 2003. He was also appointed as the Governor of Gujarat in 1998.

Veteran Indian Athlete Ishar Singh Deol passed away at 91

  • Veteran Indian athlete Ishar Singh Deol passed away at the age of 91. He served as the General Secretary of Punjab Athletes Association for 30 consecutive years and as the Vice-President of the Athletic Federation of India. He was awarded several honours, including Dhyan Chand National Award in 2009, for his outstanding contribution towards sports.
  • Deol won a bronze medal in the 1954 Asian Games held in Manila, the Philippines.

Indian boxers finished with 10 medals, including one gold at Boxam International tournament 2021

  • The 35th edition of the Boxam International tournament 2021 was held at Castellon de la Plana, Spain. Manish Kaushik clinched the gold medal as Indian boxers concluded their impressive campaign at the Boxam International Tournament with 10 medals (1 Gold, 8 Silver and 1 Bronze).
  • The eight silver medals were secured by Vikas Krishan (63 kg), Pooja Rani (75 kg), Jasmine (57 kg), Simranjit Kaur (60 kg), Mohammed Hussamuddin (57 kg), Ashish Kumar (75 kg), Sumi Sangwan (81 kg), and Satish Kumar (+91 kg).
  • Six-time World Champion MC Mary Kom (51 kg) clinched the Bronze

PV Sindhu won a silver medal at YONEX Swiss Open 2021

  • India’s ace shuttler PV Sindhu settled for a silver medal in the BWF Swiss Open Super 300 as she went down against World No. 1 Spaniard and reigning Olympic champion Carolina Marin in the final of the women’s singles held at St. Jakobshalle in Basel, Switzerland.

  • ICC also announced the advent of a new tournament, called the Women’s T20 Champions Cup, and played in 2027 and 2031.
