PM Modi to inaugurate annual conference ‘RajaswaGyanSangam’:

          Prime Minister NarendraModi will inaugurate the annual conference – RajaswaGyanSangam, 2017 in New Delhi. He will address the tax administrators during the conference jointly organised by Central Board of Direct Taxes and the Central Board of Excise and Customs.

The objective of the Conference is to enable a two-way communication between the policy-makers and the senior officers in the field offices with a view to increase revenue collection and facilitate effective implementation of law and policies in key result areas.


SmtHarsimratKaurBadal launches Common Food Processing Incubation Center for Shallots, Perambalur:

SmtHarsimratKaurBadal, Union Minister for Food Processing Industries launched Common Food Processing Incubation Center for Shallots (Small Onions) in Chettikulam village in Perambalur District of Tamil Nadu through video conferencing.She congratulated Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology (IIFPT), Thanjavur for their initiatives to help double farmers’ income by 2022.


Kerala CM PinarayiVijayan launches Kochi Host City Logo for FIFA U-17 World Cup:

          Kerala Chief Minister ShriPinarayiVijayan launched the host city logo for Kochi, one of the venues of FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017. The logo represents and reflects Kochi’s identity and will be a valuable tool in linking the local community in a global World Cup.

The Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium will host eight matches this October that will feature football powerhouses Brazil, Spain and Germany among others.

Govt clears strategic sale of Central Electronics:

The Government of India (GoI) has ‘in-principle’ decided to disinvest its 100 per cent equity in Central Electronics Ltd through strategic sale with transfer of management control,Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) said a bid document.Incorporated in 1974, CEL is under the administrative control of Ministry of Science and Technology. The CPSE is wholly owned by the government and has a net worth of Rs.50.34 crore as on March 2017.

The government has budgeted to raise 72,500 crore in 2017-18 through stake sale in PSUs. This includes Rs.46,500crore from minority stake sale, Rs.15,000 crore from strategic disinvestment and Rs.11,000 crore from listing of PSU insurance companies.


UP cabinet decides to end interview in non-gazetted government jobs:

The Uttar Pradesh cabinet has decided to do away with the process of holding interviews for selection of candidates for government jobs in all the non-gazetted posts of Group B, C and D categories.Now, the only criterion for recruitment to these posts will be written examination.

India, Switzerland to enhance cooperation in fight against tax fraud, tax evasion:

India and Switzerland have emphasized their willingness to further enhance cooperation in the fight against tax fraud and tax evasion. Both the countries also acknowledged the importance of a global level playing field for effective implementation of the international standards on tax transparency.

In a Joint statement issued in New Delhi on the ongoing visit of Swiss President Doris Leuthard, Prime Minister NarendraModi and Mrs.Leuthard noted with satisfaction the signing of the Joint Declaration in November 2016 on the implementation of Automatic Exchange of Information. India is grateful to Switzerland for supporting India’s membership in the Missile Technology Control Regime.

Lebanon gets first animal protection law:

Lebanese President Michel Aoun signed the country’s first animal welfare bill into law, guaranteeing that domestic and wild animals will be legally protected from abuse.The bill is the culmination of years of lobbying for the protection of animals in the Mediterranean country, the Animals Lebanon.

Iraqi PM Hayder al-Abadi declares victory over Islamic State militants:

          Iraqi Prime Minister Hayder al-Abadi declared victory over Islamic State militants in Tal Afar and the entire province of Nineveh, despite continued fighting in the small town of al-‘Ayadiya, 11 km northwest of Tal Afar, before declaring complete victory in the offensive.Tal Afar had become the next target of the US-backed war on the terrorist group following the capture of Mosul, where it had declared its caliphate over parts of Iraq and Syria in 2014.

5.7 % GDP growth rate in 1st quarter of current fiscal is matter of concern: Jaitely  

Finance Minister ArunJaitley has said, the 5.7 percent GDP growth rate in first quarter of this fiscal is a matter of concern and it throws up challenge to the economy. He said the rate has come down predominantly due to pre- GST effect as manufacturers were focusing more on clearing the existing stock.


Growth of eight core sectors slips to 2.4% in July:

The growth of eight core sectors slowed to 2.4 per cent in July due to contraction in output of crude oil, refinery products, fertiliser and cement. These eight infrastructure sectors — coal, crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, fertilisers, steel, cement and electricity — had witnessed a 3.1 per cent growth in July last year.According to data, natural gas output rose by 6.6 per cent in July.

Steel production and power generation rose to 9.2 per cent and 5.4 per cent, respectively in July this year from zero per cent and 2.1 per cent in the same month last year. Cumulatively, the eight core sectors in April-July recorded a growth of 2.5 per cent as against 6 per cent in the same period a year ago.


Amazon to help implementing Karnataka milk scheme:

          Amazon announced a partnership with the AkshayaPatra Foundation to implement the Karnataka government’s ‘KsheeraBhagya’ Scheme in the city, wherein schoolchildren would be provided a glass of milk each five days a week.

The partnership aims to reach out to 170,000 children across 1,300 government schools in the state.

The scheme is a dream project conceived by Karnataka Milk Federation on Chief Minister’s (Siddaramaiah) suggestion to help poor children by providing them nutritious food essential for healthy growth and all-round development of schoolchildren.The KsheeraBhagya Scheme was launched by the Congress government in 2013 to provide nutrition through milk to students of government schools and anganwadis across the state.

Ujjivan Financial jumps 10% as arm receives scheduled bank status:

          Ujjivan Financial Services shot up 10 per cent after the lender said its wholly-owned subsidiary Ujjivan Small Finance Bank has been granted ‘scheduled bank’ status on August 25.

In a filing to BSE, the lender said that its subsidiary has been included in the Second Schedule to the RBI Act, 1934 vide official Gazette notification.The stock rallied 10.17 per cent to close the session at Rs 358.15.

India to surpass China in innovation competitiveness, predicts BRICS report:

India is expected to surpass China in innovation competitivenessbetween 2025-2030,BRICS Innovative Competitive Report 2017 released by China Science and Technology Exchange Center.

The report predicts that growth rate of Russia would also fall in coming years and India would take over Russia in terms of its comprehensive STI competitiveness by 2030. At present, China is the leading BRICS nation in innovation competitiveness.

SEBI bans Orion Capital, Orion Broking from markets for 10 years:

          Markets regulator SEBIbarred Orion Capital as well as Orion Broking and their partners from the securities markets for 10 years for failing to redress several investor grievances pertaining to non- settlement of funds due to the clients. The claim amount is more than Rs 6 crore against Orion Capital and over Rs 4 crore against Orion Broking.


Arunachal Pradesh, J&K are fastest growing economies:

          Jammu and Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh were the fastest expanding State economies in 2015-16, according to a new series of gross State domestic product data with 2011-12 as the base year published by the Central Statistics Office. The two States also reported the fastest rise in per capita income in the same year.

Rajiv Pratap Rudy resigns as Union Minister:

Ahead of the likely Cabinet reshuffle, Union Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajiv Pratap Rudy resigned from the post.


Rajiv Mehrishi to be next CAG:

          Former home secretary Rajiv Mehrishi is to be the next Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India.

He will replace the present incumbent Shashi Kant Sharma who completes his term on 30th of this month. Mehrishi has emerged as the top choice for the post.

Meanwhile, three senior bureaucrats were appointed as Deputy Comptroller and Auditor General. They are AshwiniAttri, Anita Pattanayak and Ranjan Kumar Ghose.


Sunil Arora as next Election Commissioner:

Former Information and Broadcasting Secretary Sunil Arora will be the new the Election Commissioner. His appointment was approved by President Ram NathKovind. While Achal Kumar Joti is the CEC, Om PrakashRawat is the other Election Commissioner.

A 1980 batch IAS officer of the Rajasthan cadre, Mr Arora has worked in ministries and departments such as Finance, Textiles and Planning Commission.Mr Arora (61) had been the Information and Broadcasting Secretary, and Secretary in the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.


Rajiv Kumar appointed as new Department of Financial Services:

Senior bureaucrat Rajiv Kumar has been appointed Secretary in the Department of Financial Services.

A 1984 batch IAS officer of Jharkhand cadre, Rajiv Kumar, was appointed in place of AnjulyChibDuggal, who superannuated. At present, Kumar is Special Secretary and Establishment Officer in the Ministry of Personnel.


Anita Karwal as CBSE Chairperson:

Anita Karwal would be the next Chairperson of Central Board of Secondary Education, CBSE.

Anita Karwal, a Gujarat-cadre IAS officer, who is Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Human Resources Development, was named chairperson of CBSE in place of Rajesh Kumar Chaturvedi who has been moved to the National Skill Development Agency as Director General.


KuldipKaura is new interim CEO of Vedanta Ltd:

Metal and mining major Vedanta Ltd today said KuldipKaura will be its interim CEO. Kaura succeeds Tom Albanese, who steps down as CEO and from the board.


Lt Gen Pande is new Chief of Staff at Southern Command in Pune:

In a change of guard Lt Gen Manoj Pande, has taken over charge as Chief of Staff at Headquarters of Southern Command in Pune. He has taken the charge from Lt Gen RJ Noronha, who superannuated.


P.V. Sindhu Announced as Bridgestone India’s Brand Ambassador:

          Bridgestone India, a subsidiary of the world’s largest tyre and rubber company and a Worldwide Olympic Partner, has announced a partnership with ace badminton player and Olympic silver medallist, P.V. Sindhu to be the company’s first brand ambassador. As part of the three-year agreement, Sindhu will be included in Bridgestone’s activations around its Worldwide Olympic Partnership.

SumraiTete first woman from Jharkhand to win Dhyan Chand Award:

          Former India Women’s Hockey captain SumraiTete was awarded Dhyan Chand Award 2017 by the President RamnathKovind at a function held at RasthrapatiBhawan in New Delhi on the occasion of National Sports Day on August 29th.

Resident of Simdega also known as Jharkhand’s hockey nursery, Sumrai has become the first woman from Jharkhand to bag the prestigious national award.Sumrai is currently working as an office superintendent at Hatia station under South Eastern Railway.

Other winners of Dhyan Chand Award are Bhupender Singh (athletics) and Syed Shahid Hakim (football).


FICCI awards Dr KR Balakrishnan for his contribution to Healthcare:

DrK R Balakrishnan, Director, Cardiac Sciences, Fortis Centre for Heart Failure & Transplant, Fortis Malar Hospital in Chennai, leading cardiac transplant surgeon on international repute, was awarded FICCI Special Jury Award for his contributions to healthcare and medical research at an event recently.


Reliance Foundation awarded RashtriyaKhelProtsahanPuraskar:

The Reliance Foundation was rewarded with the prestigious RashtriyaKhelProtsahan Award at RashtrapatiBhawan. Chairperson of the foundation, Nita Ambani collected the award from President Ram NathKovind in a glittering ceremony in New Delhi.

KendriyaVidyalayaSangathan (KVS) also received the RashtriyaKhelProtsahanaPurushkar this year for its ‘Identification and Nurturing of Budding and Young Talent’ (IDCO) program.
