Reliance Jio joins global consortium to build an undersea cable network

  • Telecom operator Reliance Jio announced that it is constructing the largest international submarine cable system centred on India with global partners and submarine cable supplier Subcom to increase data demand.
  • The two submarine cable systems, which the company plans to deploy will connect India with Asia Pacific markets through Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia and the other one with Italy.

  • A 26-year-old Andrea Meza from Mexico has won the Miss Universe 2020 crown. The 69th Miss Universe title was won by Miss Mexico (Andrea Meza) and she was crowned by the former Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi of South Africa at the event held in Florida, USA.
  • The first runner-up is Julia Gama of Brazil, while Peru’s Janick Maceta is the second runner-up. India’s Adline Castelino and Dominican Republic’s Kimberly Perez became third runner-up and fourth runner-up respectively.

Renowned Mathematician MS Narasimhan passed away at 88

  • Famous mathematician professor MS Narasimhan passed away at the age of 88. He was known for the Narasimhan-Seshadri theorem. He was the only Indian to receive the King Faisal International Prize in the field of science & the First Chair of the National Board for Higher Mathematics.

Former Governor of Kerala and Bihar RL Bhatia passed away at 101

  • Former Governor of Kerala and Bihar, Raghunandan Lal Bhatia passed away at the age of 101. He was elected as the Member of Parliament from the Amritsar constituency.
  • He served as the Governor of Bihar from 2008 to 2009 and Governor of Kerala from 2004 to 2008.

Eminent cardiologist and Padma Shri awardee KK Aggarwal passed away at 62

  • Padma Shri awardee and eminent cardiologist, KK Aggarwal passed away due to COVID-19 complications. He was the former national president of the Indian Medical Association (IMA). He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2010. He also headed the Heart Care Foundation of India.

  • Arjan Bhullar became the first Indian-origin fighter to win a world title in a top-level MMA promotion when he beat Brandon Vera to become the heavyweight world champion at the Singapore-based One Championship.
  • He had won a gold medal in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in 120kg freestyle wrestling held in New Delhi.

AIBA Men’s World Boxing Championships 2021 to be held in Belgrade, Serbia

  • The International Boxing Association (AIBA) announced that the world championship of boxing for men will be held from 26 October to 6 November in Belgrade, Serbia. The previous edition of the championship was hosted by Ekaterinburg, Russia in 2019.

  • The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) has entered into a tie-up with an Indian start-up company, Stupa Sports Analytics to provide Artificial Intelligence (AI) enabled real-time match and practice solutions to leading players in all its 226 member associations.
  • This collaboration also helps in strengthening the performance of ITTF’s “With the Future in Mind” scholarship holders for the upcoming Olympic and Youth Olympic Games.
