  • Maharashtra government has launched the “Mission Oxygen Self-Reliance” scheme to meet the state’s oxygen needs. Special incentives will be given to oxygen-producing industries under this scheme.
  • The demand for Liquid Medical Oxygen has increased in Maharashtra. The state’s oxygen generation capacity is 1300 MT per day.

Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar launches NMMS app & Area Officer Monitoring app

  • Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Rural Development and Food Processing Industries Narendra Singh Tomar has launched National Mobile Monitoring Software (NMMS) app and Area Officer Monitoring app through video-conferencing.
  • The NMMS app permits taking real-time attendance of workers at Mahatma Gandhi NREGA worksites along with a geotagged photograph, which enabling processing payments faster.
  • Area Officer Monitoring app facilitates the area officers to record their findings online along with time-stamped and go-coordinate tagged photographs for all the schemes of the Department of Rural Development.

Tata Communications launches ‘School of Hope and Empowerment’ for empowering Indian women

  • Tata Communications, a global digital ecosystem enabler, announced the launch of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project ‘School of Hope and Empowerment’ (S.H.E.) at the 2021 UNESCO World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development.
  • S.H.E. is a multi-media, multi-stakeholder impact communications initiative to support and educate women from small towns in India to overcome key barriers to entrepreneurship.

  • India hosted the 7th meeting of the BRICS Astronomy Working Group (BAWG) under the Science, Technology, and Innovation track of the BRICS 2021 in a virtual mode.

RBI imposes a monetary penalty of Rs. 1 crore on City Union Bank and Tamilnad Mercantile Bank

  • Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of Rs.1 crore on City Union Bank Limited for contravention of and compliance with certain provisions contained in the RBI (Lending to Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) Sector) Directions, 2017.
  • The RBI also imposed a penalty of Rs. 1 crore on Tamilnad Mercantile Bank for non-compliance with certain provisions of directions issued by it on cybersecurity framework in banks.
  • Further, the RBI also imposed a penalty of Rs. 90 lakhs on Ahmedabad-based Nutan Nagarik Sahakari Bank and Rs. 10 lakhs on Pune-based Daimler Financial Services India Private Limited for non-compliance with the RBI’s directions.

  • The award has been given by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) and the United National Development Programme (UNDP).

Jharkhand ranks first in the implementation of Smart City Mission schemes

  • Jharkhand has reached the first position in the recent ranking released by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The ranking is based on the progress of the implementation of the Smart City Mission’s schemes running in different 100 cities of the country’s 36 states and union territories. Rajasthan came at the 2nd position.
  • On the other hand, Delhi is at number 11 and Bihar is at number 27 in the list of States and Union Territories.

China’s ‘father of hybrid rice’ Yuan Longping passed away at 90

  • Yuan Longping, a Chinese scientist who developed hybrid rice varieties that helped feed people around the world, passed away at the age of 90. He was known as the ‘Father of Hybrid Rice’. He spent nine years of research trying to create a hybrid rice combination.

Indian boxing’s 1st Dronacharya awardee coach OP Bhardwaj passed away at 82

  • Veteran boxing coach OP Bhardwaj passed away at the age of 82. He was India’s first Dronacharya awardee coach in boxing and was the coach of the Indian national side from 1968 to 1989.
  • He was also a member of the National team squad in the President’s Cup in Seoul in 1976 and also in the Afghan International Cup in Kabul in 1976.

Former Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Srikumar Banerjee passed away at 75

  • Former Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, Srikumar Banerjee, passed away in Navi Mumbai. He was the Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission and Union Secretary of the Department of Atomic Energy.
  • He was also a Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award recipient and a fellow of the Indian National Science Academy.

  • Indian Women’s pair of Palak Kohli and Parul Parmar became the first Indian para shuttlers to qualify for the Tokyo Paralympics. They have achieved the qualification for the SL3-SU5 Women’s Doubles event in para-badminton, which will be making its debut in this year’s Paralympics.

Former Ireland and England fast bowler Boyd Rankin retires from international cricket

  • The 36-year Ireland fast bowler Boyd Rankin announced retirement from all forms of international cricket. He played 153 games for Ireland in two stints between 2003 and 2020, including 2007 and 2011 World Cup matches.
  • He played a single Test for England in the 2013-14 Ashes and seven ODIs and a pair of T20s. He is the only cricketer who has played for two countries in all three formats of the game.
