  • International Day of Diplomats is celebrated on 24 October every year. The day aims to commemorate the contributions made by diplomats in shaping the world since ancient times and in making our planet a better place. PM inaugurates country’s biggest cardiac hospital in Ahmedabad and world’s longest temple ropeway at Junagadh in Girnar:

  • Prime Minister Modi e-dedicated country’s biggest cardiac hospital at N. Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Center and launched a Mobile Application for tele-cardiology at Civil Hospital campus in Ahmedabad.
  • The new facilities have been set up at the cost of Rupees 470 crore, which has increased the existing 450 beds to 1251 beds, 531 cardiac ICU beds, 15 cardiac modular operation theaters and 6 cardiac cath labs.

Indian Navy operationalises first batch of 3 women pilots on Dornier Aircraft at Kochi:

  • Indian Navy operationalized its 1st batch of women pilots on Dornier Aircraft by SNC. Divya Sharma, Lt. Shubhangi Swaroop & Lt. Shivangi are the three women pilots of the first batch. They graduated as Fully operational Maritime Reconnaissance Pilots.

PM Modi to inaugurate National Conference on Vigilance and Anti-Corruption:

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the National Conference on Vigilance and Anti-Corruption on the theme “Vigilant India”. Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) organises the National Conference coinciding with ‘Vigilance Awareness Week’, which is observed in India every year from October 27 to November 2.

 

World Bank sanctions Rs 3 crore to set up India’s first Sand Dune Park in Goa:

  • World Bank accepted the proposal of the Biodiversity Board of the state and has sanctioned a sum of Rs 3 crore for Goa to develop India’s first sand dune parks. Sand Dune Parks will create awareness among locals and tourists on the importance of preserving the sand dune through thematic and interpretation centres.
  • Board member secretary Pradip Sarmokadam stated that the Morjim and Galgibaga beaches, known for their turtle-nesting sites, are among the stretches that will get sand dune parks.

MoS Muraleedharan Inaugurates Philately Exhibition on ‘India and The UN: A Postal History’:

  • On the occasion of the 75th United Nations Day, Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan inaugurated a philately exhibition on India and the UN: A Postal History. Government released a commemorative postage stamp on the 75th anniversary of the UN.

 

PM Modi Launches ‘Kisan Suryoday Yojana’ for Farmers in Gujarat:

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated 3 key projects in Gujarat through video conferencing. The key project that was launched was the ‘Kisan Suryoday Yojana’, which has been established with the aim of providing (5 am to 9 pm)16 hours of power supply to farmers in the state every day.
  • A budget of Rs 3,500 crore has been allocated for installing transmission infrastructure under this scheme by 2023.

Uttar Pradesh tops in loan disbursal to street vendors under PM Svanidhi Scheme:

  • Uttar Pradesh is ranked first among the states under PM SAV Nidhi scheme by disbursing loans among 2,26,728 beneficiaries. 7 cities on the state were ranked in top 10 with Varanasi on top followed by The scheme was launched for street vendors on June 1, 2020. A loan of 10,000 is given at subsidised rate of interest.

  • Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti and Social Justice & Empowerment Rattan Lal Kataria launched a Mobile application for Geo tagging of the components of projects under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana– Accelerated Irrigation Benefits Programme(PMKSY-AIBP) of the Department of WR, RD& GR under Ministry of Jal Shakti.

Pakistan to remain in grey list of FATF global terror financing watchdog till February 2021:

  • Pakistan to remain on grey list of global terror financing watchdog, Financial Action Task Force as it did not fulfil 6 out of 27 mandates to check terror funding. It makes it extremely difficult for Pakistan to get financial aid from IMF, World Bank & EU.

RBI revises regulatory framework for Housing Finance Companies:

  • Reserve Bank of India (RBI) shared final guidelines for Housing Finance Companies (HFC) highlighting that these NBFCs should have at least 60% of their net assets deployed in the business of providing finance for housing by March 31, 2024.
  • RBI notified that any HFC not having 60% of its net assets deployed for housing loans must get 50% of its books utilised for such loans by March 31, 2022, 55% by March 31, 2023 and 60% by March 31, 2024. Minimum percentage of total assets towards housing finance for individuals during this period should be raised to 40%, 45% and 50%, respectively.

 

RBI bars payment system operators from launching new QR codes:

  • Reserve Bank of India (RBI) barred Payment System Operators (PSOs) from launching any new proprietary QR code for payment transactions.
  • Reserve Bank had constituted a Committee under Chairperson of Prof Deepak Phatak to review the current system of Quick Response (QR) Codes in India and suggest measures for moving towards interoperable QR Codes.

Income tax return filing deadline for FY20 extended till December 31:

  • Ministry of Finance has further extended the deadline for filing income tax returns by individual taxpayers for FY 2019-20 by a month till December 31, 2020. Income-Tax Return filing deadline has been extended by two months till January 31, 2021.

 

NBFCs approach RBI for inclusion as beneficiaries to on-tap TLTRO:

  • Non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) have written to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to include them as beneficiaries for availing funds under on tap Targeted Long-Term Repo Operations (TLTRO) scheme.
  • To ensure comfortable liquidity conditions in the system, the RBI announced to conduct on tap TLTRO worth Rs 1 lakh crore. It will remain operational till March 31, 2021.

 

ICCI Partners with BSE to support SMEs & start-ups in listing on Exchange:

  • Stock exchange BSE has signed an agreement with Inventivepreneur Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ICCI) to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and start-ups, and promote their listing on the exchange. ICCI will offer assistance to BSE in evaluating SMEs and start-ups for listing on BSE SME board.

 

Delhi Metro and SBI jointly launch ‘credit-cum-smart card’ with auto-top up facility:

  • Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in association with the SBI Card launched the ‘Delhi Metro – SBI card’, a multipurpose credit card for the benefit of the commuters, with an auto top-up facility. Mangu Singh, Managing Director(MD) of DMRC and Ashwini Kumar Tewari, MD & CEO (Chief Executive Officer) jointly launched the card.
  • This multipurpose card will enable its users to use it as a smart card with auto-top up facility whenever the balance of the card goes below Rs 100.

IIT Kharagpur and TCS Develop Novel “Industry 4.0” Technology a New Trends in India’s Advanced Manufacturing Sector:

  • Surjya K Pal of IIT Kharagpur has developed novel Industry 4.0 technology for remotely controlled factory operations and real-time quality correction during industrial production, jointly with TCS to set a new trend in India’s advanced manufacturing sector.

 

India Meteorological Department Commissions Flash Flood Guidance Services for South Asia:

  • India Meteorological Department (IMD) has dedicated first of its kind “Flash Flood Guidance services (FFGS)” for South Asian countries namely India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal and Sri Lanka to issue impact-based forecasting of floods.
  • It was launched by M. Rajeevan, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, who was the chief guest of a virtual event which was attended by distinguished National and International dignitaries.

  • Lieutenant General Nanda Kishore Sahoo has taken the charge as Director General, Dental Services, and Colonel Commandant of Army Dental Corps. During his distinguished military career of 37 years, he has held multiple appointments including Command of a unit in Kashmir Valley, Command Advisor of Western, Central, and Southern Commands.
  • Sahoo is an internationally acclaimed author, teacher and winner of KS Master silver medal. He is a recipient of 5 Commendations and Presidential Award. He was also awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal.

 

Essar Appoints Stein Ivar Bye as Chief Executive Officer:

  • Essar Oil UK Ltd owns the Stanlow refinery in the UK appointed Stein Ivar Bye as its new CEO. Stanlow produces 16 per cent of the UK’s road transport fuels and the refinery processes 10 million tonnes of crude and feedstocks annually.

India ranks 131 in mobile internet speeds; South Korea Tops; Ookla Speedtest Global Index:

  • India has been ranked 131 out of 138 countries in the global mobile internet speed rankings by Ookla, the US based company behind testing the speed and performance of the internet connection of a country. India was at 121 rank in 2019.
  • South Korea has topped the list with an average mobile internet speed of 00 Mbps. Singapore has topped this index with the download speed of 226.60 Mbps.

  • Veteran Gujarati film musician, singer & former Lok Sabha MP from Patan constituency Mahesh Kanodia passed away. He was known for singing in 32 different voices including female voices. He was awarded Best Music for the Gujarati films Jigar ane Ami, etc.,

 

Samsung chairman Lee Kun-hee, head of South Korea’s biggest conglomerate passed away at 78:

  • South Korea’s Lee Kun-Hee, the ailing Samsung Electronics chairman who transformed the small television maker into a global giant of consumer electronics died. Samsung became the world’s largest maker of smartphones, televisions & memory chips.

  • World champion Lewis Hamilton became the most successful F1 driver of all time in terms of race wins with a 92nd career victory at the Portuguese Grand Prix. Runaway leader Hamilton is also set to equal Schumacher’s record 7 championships this season.
  • Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes- Finland) came second followed by Max Verstappen (Red Bull – Netherlands) at third spot.
