Union Minister of Culture and Tourism Prahlad Singh Patel virtually launches Life in Miniature project:

  • Union Minister of State for Culture and Tourism Shri Prahlad Singh Patel launched ‘Life in Miniature’ project via video conferencing on 22 October 2020. The project is a collaboration between the National Museum, New Delhi, Ministry of Culture, and the Google Arts and Culture.
  • ‘Life in Miniature’ can be viewed online on Google Arts and Culture by people around the world. It would include miniature art like the Ramayana, Royal Saga, Pahari style paintings in never before seen ways and in extraordinary detail.

 

Rajnath Singh unveils new version of DRDO’s procurement manual to engage private sector in defence R&D:

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh unveiled a new version of the procurement manual of the premier military research institute DRDO featuring simplified procedures for involvement of the private sector in various research and development projects.
  • The new version of the manual has been brought out to encourage participation of private industry, including start-ups and micro, small and medium enterprises in defence research in sync with the government’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India).

 

Andhra Pradesh government launches ‘YSR BIMA’ insurance scheme for BPL families:

  • Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy launched ‘YSR Bima’, a scheme to provide financial assistance through insurance cover to beneficiary in case of death or accident of their family members.
  • All families with white ration cards are eligible for YSR Bima scheme. Village/ward volunteers will visit the families and enrol the names of the primary householders. The scheme will benefit 41 crore BPL families of the state.

He distributed handheld devices through which money could be withdrawn to banking correspondent agents. Initiative is being promoted by Meghalaya State Rural Livelihood Society, MRB & NABARD.

 Third phase of National Supercomputing Mission to start in January 2021:

  • Department of Science and Technology stated, third phase of the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) will kickstart in January 2021, taking computing speed to around 45 petaflops.
  • NSM is rapidly boosting high power computing in the country through its various phases to meet the increasing computational demands of academia, researchers, medium, small and micro enterprises and start-ups in areas like oil exploration, flood prediction as also genomics, and drug discovery.

 

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri launches ‘e-Dharti Geo portal’:

  • Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has launched the ‘e-Dharti Geo Portal’ that will integrate legacy drawings such as maps and lease plans in the management information system and make it Geographic Information System (GIS)-
  • Land & development office (L&DO) has devised a property certificate incorporating details and the outline map of the property which is available online on the portal.

 

AAI Plans to Develop at Least 100 Airports, Waterdromes and Heliports Under UDAN Scheme by 2024:

  • Airports Authority of India (AAI) is planning to develop at least 100 airports, waterdromes and heliports across the country by 2024 under the government’s regional air connectivity scheme UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik), Civil Aviation Secretary Pradeep Singh Kharola The fourth anniversary of the UDAN scheme was commemorated on October 21.

Uttarakhand CM Rawat Launches Integrated Model Agricultural Village Scheme:

  • Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat inaugurated Integrated Model Agricultural Village scheme (“Ekikrit Adarsh Krishi Gram Yojana”) in the state in partnership with NABARD.
  • Integrated Model Agricultural Village scheme is a concept which will prove to be a milestone in strengthening the economy of farmers and doubling their income Rawat stated while launching the scheme at Doiwala.

  • Tamil Nadu becomes first state to launch Smart Black Board Scheme in India. Under this Smart Black Board scheme, audio visual teaching material would be possible, that can even be fed into the computer screens in classes using widely available pen drives.
  • The Scheme was implemented more than 80,000 schools in the country. Tamil Nadu State government has also decided to reduce be syllabus of 2020-21 by 40 per cent.

  • Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Nitin Gadkari has launched India’s first-ever high-quality Khadi Fabric Footwear, designed by Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) through Video Conference. These footwears are made of Khadi fabric like Silk, Cotton and Wool.
  • Gadkari also launched the online sale of Khadi footwear through KVIC’s e-portal khadiindia.gov.in.

 

Union Minister Jitendra Singh Addresses First Ever Ministerial Meeting of G-20 Anti-Corruption Working Group:

  • Union Minister Jitendra Singh addressed the first ministerial meeting of G-20 anti-corruption working group (launched on its 10th anniversary year). Saudi Arabia became the first country to host the first ever meeting. India is committed to the policy of zero tolerance against corruption and unaccounted money.

 

Karnataka government Approves to switch implementing agency for Bhagyalakshmi scheme through Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana:

  • Karnataka cabinet granted approval to implement the Bhagyalakshmi scheme, which provides financial security to girl child of BPL families, through Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana of the postal department instead of LIC.
  • The postal department will be the implementing agency for Bhagyalakshmi scheme, one of the flagship schemes of the Yediyurappa government in the state.

  • Women and Child welfare minister Yashomati Thakur inaugurated the platform ‘TARANG SUPOSHIT MAHARASHTRACHA’ which is based on the interactive voice response system.

India gets chairmanship of ILO governing body after a gap of 35 years:

  • After a gap 35 years, India has assumed the Chairmanship of the Governing Body of International Labour Organization (ILO). Apurva Chandra, Secretary, Labour and Employment, has been elected as the Chairperson of Governing Body of ILO for the period October 2020- June 2021.
  • Governing Body (GB) is the apex executive body of the ILO which decides policies, programmes, agenda, budget and elects the Director-General. Presently, ILO has 187 members.

 

NATO to set up new Space Centre in Ramstein, Germany:

  • North Atlantic Treaty organisation is to setup a new Space Centre in Ramstein, Germany. The centre is to serve as a co-ordination Centre for space observation.
  • NATO leaders declared that Space will be the alliance’s “Fifth Domain” of operations after land, sea, air and cyberspace.

 

Cabinet Approves MoU Between ICAI and CPAs, Papua New Guinea:

  • Central Cabinet chaired by the PM Narendra Modi has approved a MoU between the Institute of Chartered Accounts of India (ICAI) and also the Certified Practising Accountants, Papua New Guinea (CPA PNG) to figure together in capacity building and strengthening the Accounting.

 

Andorra becomes IMF’s 190th member of International Monetary Fund:

  • European country Andorra formally joined the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as 190th Member state as the tourism and trade-dependent principality struggles with the coronavirus pandemic. Ambassador of Andorra, Elisenda Vives Balmana signed IMF’s Articles of Agreement at IMF Headquarters in Washington D.C., USA.

DRDO successfully conducts final trial of Nag anti-tank guided missile in Pokhran range:

  • India successfully carried out the final trial of the third generation, anti-tank guided missile ‘NAG’ from the Pokhran field firing ranges in Rajasthan. The Nag anti-tank guided missile has been developed by the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), to engage highly fortified enemy tanks in day and night conditions.
  • It will be manufactured by defence PSU Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), under the Integrated Guided Missile Development Program (IGMDP), of DRDO.

 

CBSE introduces ‘Facial Recognition System’ to access digital documents:

  • Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced the ‘Facial Recognition System’ to access the digital documents. This system has been launched for classes 10th and 12th.The system has been launched amid the Covid-19 situation in order to make things easier for students.

 

Indian Navy Missile Corvette INS Prabal Launches Anti-Ship Missile:

  • Indian Navy shared a video showing an Anti-Ship Missile (ASHM) launched by its Missile Corvette INS Prabal with deadly accuracy at maximum range and sinking the target ship. The missile launched from the Arabian Sea homed in on its target – an old ship – and hit it with deadly accuracy at its maximum range.

NITI Aayog sets up panel headed by Rajiv Kumar for reforms in urban planning education:

  • The policy think tank NITI Aayog has constituted a 14-member advisory committee to look into introducing reforms in the urban planning education system. The panel will be headed by NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman Rajiv Kumar.
  • Education system in India in terms of multi-disciplinarity, curriculum and related issues at graduate and post graduate levels in the context of the challenges posed by rapid urbanization.

 

Saad al-Hariri Renamed Lebanon Prime Minister a Year After Stepping Down Amid Protests:

  • Lebanon’s President Michel Aoun designated Sunni Muslim politician Saad al-Hariri as prime minister to form a new government to tackle the worst crisis since the country’s 1975-1990 civil war.
  • Hariri received 65 parliamentary votes out of 118, giving him the mandate to form his new government. He is the third person to be tasked with forming a government this year, after academic Hassan Diab, who succeeded in forming a government but resigned and then diplomat Mustafa Adib.

 

ECI constitutes 2-member committee to examine issues concerning expenditure limits:

  • Election Commission of India has set up a 2-member committee to examine the issue of revising the expenditure limit for candidates for Lok Sabha and assembly polls. The committee will comprise of Harish Kumar, IRS and DG (Investigation), Umesh Sinha, Secretary General and DG (Expenditure).
  • The need to set up this committee was felt in view of the increase in number of electors and rise in Cost Inflation Index. It will submit its report within 120 days of its constitution.

 

Bimal Julka appointed as the Chairman of Federation of Indian Fantasy Sports:

  • Federation of Indian Fantasy Sports (FIFS) has appointed former Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) of India, Bimal Julka, as its Chairman.He will take over from John Loffhagen, who served as the chairman of FIFS for over three years.
  • Loffhagen will assume the role of a strategic advisor and support FIFS on collaborating with relevant international bodies in the industry.

 

Indian diplomat Sushil Kumar Singhal appointed as next Ambassador to Solomon Islands:

  • Sushil Kumar Singhal, a 2000-batch IFS officer, has been appointed as the next High Commissioner of India to Solomon Islands. He is presently serving as the High Commissioner of India to the Independent State of Papua New Guinea.

  • Dabur India Ltd announced the signing of Tollywood Diva Ritabhari Chakraborty as the new Regional Brand Ambassador for its iconic brand Dabur Honey. Indian-origin plastic surgeon Jajini Varghese named JC ‘Outstanding Young Person 2020’:

  • UK based Indian origin plastic surgeon Dr Jajini Varghese has been named one of the ‘Outstanding Young Person of the World 2020’ by NGO Junior Chamber International. She is one among the 10 persons who bagged the title and Dr Jajini is facilitated for her “Incredible” scientific contributions in diagnosing and treating breast cancer.

 

India-assisted Mangdechhu hydroelectric project in Bhutan wins prestigious award:

  • India-assisted Mangdechhu hydroelectric project in Bhutan has been awarded the prestigious Brunel Medal for excellence in civil engineering by the UK-based Institute of Civil Engineers.
  • The run-of-river power plant, built on the Mangdechhu River in Trongsa Dzongkhag district of central Bhutan at a cost of Rs 4,500-crore, is seen as a symbol of friendship between the two countries.

 

Delhi’s IGI Airport emerges world’s 2nd safest airport on Covid-related safety protocols:

  • Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport has emerged as the world’s second safest aerodrome for effective implementation of novel coronavirus-related health as well as safety protocols, said the airport operator Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL).
  • Air cargo volumes from Bengaluru have picked up impressively after a prolonged slump due to Covid-19 pandemic. International cargo volumes are leading the recovery at the city’s international airport.
  • The Kempe Gowda international airport, operated by the Bangalore International Airport (BIAL) has become the first metro airport in India to record growth in freight in September 2020, compared to the same period last year.An initiative by Safe Travel Barometer, the safe travel score assessed more than 200 airports across the globe on their implementation of safety and health protocols during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

 

Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh bags top position for implementing PMGSY:

  • Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi has bagged the first position among 30 districts nationwide for successfully implementing the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. Total 8 district from Himachal Pradesh have figured in the list. The other districts are Chamba, Shimla, Kangra, Una, Sirmour, Hamirpur and Solan.

 

Haryana tops Anemia Mukt Bharat Index among 29 states; Anemia Mukt Bharat Index:

  • Haryana has been ranked at the top with a score of 7 in the Anemia Mukt Bharat (AMB) Index among the 29 states in India. The news was shared during the State Health Society of the National Health Mission’s 8th Governing Body Meeting in Chandigarh. The meeting was presided over by the Haryana chief secretary, Vijai Vardhan.
  • There is a total of 34 National Programmes that are being run under the National Health Mission (NHM).

First woman IAF Officer Vijayalakshmi Ramanan (retd) passes away at 96:

  • Wing Commander Vijayalakshmi Ramanan, the first woman officer to be commissioned in the Indian Air Force, has passed away. Dr Ramanan served as an obstetrician and gynaecologist at various Air Force Hospitals. She was honoured with the Vishist Seva Medal five years later.

 

Eminent economist Dr. Jayanta Madhab passes away at 91:

  • A renowned economist, Jayanta Madhab passed away. Madhab graduated in economics from JB College, Jorhat and pursued his masters from Gauhati University. He earned his doctorate degree in financial management from the London School of Economics.

 

Veteran TRS leader and Telangana’s first home minister Nayani Narsimha Reddy passes away at 86:

  • Former Telangana home minister and senior TRS leader Nayini Narsimha Reddy passed away. He served as MLA from Musheerabad assembly constituency thrice and was Member of Legislative Council. He was the first home minister of Telangana.

 

Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Awardee Zero Babu passes away at 80:

  • Playback singer, music director and actor K J Mohammed Babu, popularly known as ‘Zero’ Babu passed away. Babu was a recipient of the Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Award. He has sung in nearly 90 films and various plays. His first movie was the 1964 film ‘Kudumbini’.
